I knew this already from lockpicking in Oblivion. And people say video games don't teach you anything....

And before you know it, soccer moms will try to ban video games because they teach you how to commit crimes.

ok, how the hell dose a bobby pin work for this in fallout.....
User avatar #11 to #6 - sparkyoneonetwo (01/13/2013) [-]
you can use a bobby pin IRL to if you know what you are doing.

While a bobby pin could hardly be used for every lock out there, if you bend it into a proper shape and maybe sand it down a bit. You could make a somewhat decent lockpick out of it. The screwdriver functions as your tension wrench, and then you do the same as in the .gif, except one at a time. The tension wrench will keep them from falling down, as long as you are not putting to much or to little pressure.

using the screw driver to hold them in place, and using the bobby pin to lift them to the right position.

Bobby pin to move tumblers, screwdriver to turn lock. Forcefully turning lock without adjusting tumblers causes them to bend and the whole mechanism seizes up. Hence, failed attempts to force a lock open in Fallout cause a lock to become unavailable to pick (without the associated perk).

i stand informed...
User avatar #16 to #6 - blargchikahonkhonk (01/13/2013) [-]
due to their being slight inaccuracy in the sizes of the tumblers if you apply slight pressure with a torsion wrench and press each of them up in turn you can get them to stay their in the correct position until they are all correct and the lock opens. the problem comes when you get security pins basically something like a normal pin but instead of being a straight piece of metal it is kinda ][ that shape so the force you apply with your wrench jams it but you can still get past them with enough practice. most locks could be opened by using the bobby pin as a rake instead of a pick.

tl;dr no lock is perfect exploit it like a bitch

Ah, **** ...

Now I have to look up how to pick locks...
User avatar #38 to #26 - serotonin (01/14/2013) [-]
Its not that hard. In two days I learned how to pick simple locks with just two paperclips (there are videos on youtube explaining how to do it)
