This looks like Ninjutsu but can't be because it isn't competative

Hah. No. This is a Vietnamese martial art, Bình Định. This technique is one of their iconic ones. Stop assuming everything is from Japan, weeaboo. This is coming from somebody who has studied Tae Kwon Do since they were a wee child, and who has studied plenty of other random fighting styles along the way. I also know this is Vietnamese because my friend studied it for years and told me about it, and I remember him having a picture of him in the middle of doing this.

Do you have a recommendation? I've been looking into Tae Kwon Do and/or Muay Thai, I just want the one that has the least..'touching'. (Dont want to live my friends story of grabbing the other guys kimono and ripping sweaty hair as we does it.)
User avatar #105 to #99 - commontroll (12/27/2012) [-]
Oh man, I suggest Muay Thai. I know what you mean though about less grabby stuff. Brazilian Jujitsu certainly feels really gay. But Muay Thai is my suggestion. Quick, brutal, efficient. Tae Kwon Do in most places is reduced to a sport. It used to be incredibly lethal, now most places never teach you anything beyond sport useful things, and if they do, it's only past black belt.

I see, and totally agree, friend keeps telling me the stories...taking out that almost all of the 'grabs/holds' the other person keeps feeling your crotch.... And thanks, I'll look into that, and I hardly see any Tae Kwon Do places around here, tho a lot of Muay Thai.
User avatar #107 to #106 - commontroll (12/27/2012) [-]
Lucky. Yeah, Muay Thai is definitely on my to do list for studying, along with Krav Maga (although, that's more of just "be aware and beat the **** out of them and don't let them use their weapons. Aim to kill," style.) and a couple others.
User avatar #108 to #107 - zoidz (12/27/2012) [-]
Krav Maga looks interesting, a bit...'suicidal' if you're going up against someone thats used to guns and knows that you should keep distance tho. And thank you for the recommendations!
User avatar #109 to #108 - commontroll (12/27/2012) [-]
Well, if they keep their distance, you get behind cover. The way most gun crimes go, they pull out a gun about 20 or so feet from you, thinking that a bullet stops you that fast. A decent distance for avoiding being attacked when you have the gun is about 50 feet or so I'd say. Any less and if the person has a knife, suddenly your gut has one too.

Anyway, odds are that if there's 50 feet between you and a person with a handgun, they'll miss a couple times, and if they do hit, then it should take more than a couple rounds to kill you. The body is tougher than we think. Anyway, you get to cover, throw anything you can, bricks, rocks, etc. and wait for them to either run away or come after you to finish the job, and then they'll be within range for you to rush in and stab or beat the assailant down.

What if they have a bazooka or a SMG?
User avatar #111 to #110 - commontroll (12/27/2012) [-]
***** , if they got a bazooka, just give them the damn wallet.
User avatar #112 to #111 - zoidz (12/27/2012) [-]
But I have no wallet!! Its in my socks!
User avatar #113 to #112 - commontroll (12/27/2012) [-]
SHHEEEEEEIT man. Just give him yo kicks, and yo socks, and all yo clothes. Bitch, go the extra mile, let him have his way, and take you down the milky booty hall! Anything to keep him from blowin' yo ass up, literally and non-sexually!
User avatar #118 to #113 - zoidz (12/27/2012) [-]
But I like my socks...I cant give them to other people!!!! Are you mad!?
User avatar #119 to #118 - commontroll (12/27/2012) [-]
Alright, but if you keep the socks, you gotta give up the underwear.

I never said that this is Ninjutsu I just said that it looks like it, but can't be since there are no competitions in it.
User avatar #72 to #69 - commontroll (12/26/2012) [-]
And because ninjitsu is a fraud... it's mostly made just to attract white tourists to stay and become students in the "Way of the Ninja." They even wear the "traditional" black garb of the stage hands of feudal Japan.
User avatar #93 to #72 - CRosBY (12/26/2012) [-]
Tkd guy calling another martial art a fraud? wut?
User avatar #104 to #93 - commontroll (12/27/2012) [-]
Never said Tae Kwon Do isn't reduced to a mere sport. However, I can still whoop ass with the things I've learned. The speed that my kicks have, even after years of being rusty, are ridiculous and disprove the whole "kicks aren't really useful in a fight." However, I agree, in a real fight, I would only use TKD to get somebody on the ground at most. Generally, I would want to actually use BJJ.
User avatar #114 to #104 - CRosBY (12/27/2012) [-]
Im just trying to troll, TKD has some clear advantages, look at Anthony Pettis. Even Anderson Silva has a blackbelt in TKD.
User avatar #116 to #114 - commontroll (12/27/2012) [-]
And if I was somebody who cared more about TKD, I'd probably be upset. Good attempt, wrong target. 6/10 troll attempt.
User avatar #115 to #114 - commontroll (12/27/2012) [-]
Haha, it's all good man. Yeah, it definitely has things it brings to the table, but I do believe that the modern adaptation of it in Western culture is just sad. It's become a pitiful sport more than anything else. I think I may have learned more real fight techniques from Youtube, friends, and my imagination than TKD, but it certainly helped my speed a lot.
User avatar #121 to #115 - CRosBY (12/28/2012) [-]
Well of course a Bas Rutten instructional on youtube is better than any traditional martial art.
