He's right.. it's not japanese. Look at the 3rd kanji on his t-shirt. The first radical is 讠, its the shortened form of 言 used in mandarin or cantonese (dont really know).. but not in japan for sure.

yeah Japanese uses kanji as well but not all of them, plus there are some characteristic that are different to Chinese's kanji, and the one on the bear and on the sign are chinese characteristic.

I see. I'm still learning Japanese, and memorizing Kanji is a bitch: so I had no way of knowing.

yeap, Japanese are harder than chinese, I'm taiwanese and my japanese teacher told me chinese is way too easier because chinese dont really need grammar, and japanese got that strict grammar rule..

I'd pick grammar over memorizing a different character for everything ever imagined any day.

It may be due to the fact that English is my first language, but yes. I have a hard time memorizing different characters for every single word: I'm better with having an alphabet, and spelling words phonetically with grammar.

That, and I have a bad memory in general, which also probably contributes to this fact.

And signs are often all kanji. This could easily be either.
