I tried to do this with my cat but it won't unfreeze. Should I try restarting it? Please, I don't want to have to get another one :(

Lift up its tail and stick the tip of your pinkie finger in the cats recessed reset button. I guarantee it will illicit an instant response.

It's cold. Take it to a sub place and have them run it through the toaster oven. It'll start moving again.

Cats stop moving when they feel that 'grasping' sensation on the back of their neck. It develops when they're kittens so that their mother can carry them around without dropping them because they're struggling, but the behavior extends into adulthood as well. Male cats actually use this when they're mating with the female to stop them from running, because mating is apparently painful for cats. The only reason I know all this is because my dad's a veterinarian. Gif semi-related.

The reason why mating is painful for cats is because a cat's penis has barbs on it.

A penis. With barbs on it. To tear up the vaginal wall so they eggs can latch on.

A PENIS. WITH BARBS.

So... Cats mate by rape?
#22 to #18 - critz (11/27/2012) [-]
I know some animals like ducks reproduce mainly by rape. Ducks even have weird dicks that somehow help in rape.

Someone let the japanese get to the ducks

One of my ducks died from constantly being raped over the course of weeks. It was the only female in a group of like 4 males. The back of her neck was shredded to the bone.
Kittens for happy feelings.

Well, not exactly. The female cats go into heat, which means that their pheromones drive them to find a mate. They'll willingly seek out the male, it just seems that the actual process can be painful, (I don't know why, and I honestly don't want to know,) so it stops them from running by instinct as soon as they feel pain. Granted, that is still a little morbid, isn't it?
User avatar #28 to #20 - lulgazmz (11/27/2012) [-]
(I feel like I shouldn't know this.)
A cat's penis is barbed, so it basically shreds up the females insides during sex; so yea - It ******* hurts. The reason being is to prevent the female from mating with more males for a while, to increase the initial mate's chances of "winning".
#29 to #28 - reigndrac (11/27/2012) [-]
Well. Thank you for taking time out of your day to share with me that particular piece of situation. Now, if you would please excuse me, I am going to scrub my eyes out with steel wool and bleach in an attempt to remove that mental image from my mind by substituting it with pain.

then your eyes will have an idea of how it feels to be a female cat's vagina. awesome job involving yourself in the learning process.
User avatar #127 to #28 - Dember ONLINE (11/28/2012) [-]
Actually, the reason for the barbs is because the stimulation causes the female to ovulate and increase the chances of producing kittens from that male.

Trust me, the barbs won't stop her from trying to get him (or any other eligible bachelors in the neighborhood) to mate with her again, within a matter of hours or even minutes.

You learn something new everyday... I guess
User avatar #19 to #18 - multimedia (11/27/2012) [-]
Kinda...it's painful even if the female wants it. Male cats have spiked cocks that scrape up the female's vagina when being pulled out. So basically, every thrust makes the female get scraped in her vag. Can't imagine that's fun.

A cat's penis has barbs in it. They prevent the female cat from getting away.
However, the cat is an induced ovulator, meaning that the female must have intercourse in order for her to have a pre-ovulatory Leutenizing Hormone peak which leads to ovulation.

source: I'm a veterinary student
User avatar #132 to #35 - Dember ONLINE (11/28/2012) [-]
Try again, veterinary student.

The barbs have nothing to do with keeping the female in place; they're almost microscopic (not that it makes them any less uncomfortable on the poor female) and certainly nothing like a damn grappling hook that digs in and holds her there; however traumatically fascinating that mental image may be.

She stays in place due to instinct and hormones in overdrive, at least until it's over and she attacks him. The barbs just cause the female to ovulate, which increases the chances of that male siring offspring and passing on his genes.

Yes and no. If the female wasn't willing to stay still enough in the first place, mating just wouldn't happen, but it's her instincts and hormones that tell her to do so, so there's not much "decision" there.

As for the mating itself, all male felines have penises covered in thousands of tiny barbs -- like the scratchy side of velcro.
So yes, the female isn't too thrilled about it once it actually occurs; the males bite her scruff to better subdue her and hopefully lessen her fury when she turns on him and tries to beat the snot out of him.

She'll probably be badgering him to do it again within a few minutes, though. Or any other males in the area.

Say no to overpopulated kittens and velcro dick sex -- get your cats fixed.

In case anyone was wondering, the reason that happens is because the clip mimmics the mother bitting the back of the neck. The mother only did that when that cat was a kitten because it had a hard time walking. The reason it freezes is so the teeth don't hurt.

In case you are wondering why this happens, it is because the clip on the neck reminds the cat of when their mother used to lift them and carry them by lightly gripping their neck in their teeth. The young kitten learned quickly not to move when this happens, and this carries over into adulthood.
User avatar #73 to #60 - silasdg (11/28/2012) [-]
As a side note it works wonders if your cat scratches a lot. Do this 2-3 times (with your hand carefully) when you think they're going to scratch. Soon enough they will always be docile.
