I never understood why we always refer to them as our "Car Keys". Yes they're our keys, but only one of them operates the car. "House Keys" makes sense because the handle and deadbolt require separate keys.

then you could always say the button thing on your keys is also a key so hence car keys

Interesting note, my car door requires a different key than my ignition while my handle and deadbolt use the same key.

Older vehicles have multiple keys, usually one for the ignition and one for the door/trunk, etc.
