Is that a Goliath Bird Eater? I have one of those, but she isn't full grown. I'm hoping she gets that big. Pic related. It's her.

How intelligent are those?
User avatar #140 to #71 - circuspatrol (06/13/2014) [-]
I have two. The female I have is really smart. She knows when her cage is open and if I leave the room during this time she'll make a break for it within seconds. She had cage with a sliding door at one time. She figured out how to use it. Btw I got her in 3rd grade. She's 14 years old.
#76 to #71 - thememegod (06/12/2014) [-]
Pretty ******* smart.
You just have to not get rough. You gotta be VERY gentle or they could bite in self defense. Other wise there gentle venomous giants

This may sound insane, but that looks like a Gold Silk Orb Weaver. They are the most docile spiders on the planet. They only bite when you pinch them or hurt them. They can be pets, even though they are among the largest spiders besides huntsmans and tarantulas. I still would not let it do that

I used to have one living outside my window, he started up a little conclave it was rather nice... then my dad sprayed the outside of the house with bleach to clean off the green grime that had been there... I miss my spider friends.
User avatar #102 to #99 - RiflemanFunny (06/13/2014) [-]
Even though they are neutral, they can become a nuisance. In the Southern US, they can literally cover woods and kill small birds. They get everywhere, it's like a horror film, but they good.

I only cared about the main big guy, I would've had no problem culling the herd... seriously I'm terrified of spiders but I respect them so it's the most ****** up thing when I interact with them, I'm really calm and try my best to communicate to them that they can live if they find some place far away from me to live then they take two steps toward me and flip my **** and crush them.
User avatar #124 to #96 - levelninetynine (06/13/2014) [-]
I use to catch them when I was young. I pissed one off on accident and I have to say it was a pretty painful bite.
User avatar #126 to #124 - RiflemanFunny (06/13/2014) [-]
They possess the same type of venom that a black widow has, but it is wayy less potent.
User avatar #127 to #126 - levelninetynine (06/13/2014) [-]
I didn't get much discomfort from the venom but the puncturing was brutal. She didn't bite me real quick instead she held on for a few seconds to really get her fangs in.
User avatar #130 to #127 - RiflemanFunny (06/13/2014) [-]
It's really freaky how something so small can be so strong. I think they could bite through foil. I don't know really.

i can live with big ass flies dragging their dirt ridden bodies all over my food, but i cant live with a gif of a spider on the internet.

Ever consider that maybe if you tolerated spiders in your house, the fly situation would improve?
