I would so much rather be Alfred than Woodhouse.

Woodhouse if you don't get off of funnyjunk, and learn how to properly poach an egg I swear to god I will make you eat a big bowl of spiderwebs! Oh, and one more thing. If I find one single dickbutt, in here when get back... I'll rub sand in your dead little eyes... also while I'm out I need you to pick up sand... I don't know if they grade that stuff but... coarse

You're not living; you're just waiting, hoping for things to go bad again. Remember when you left Gotham, before all this, before Batman? You were gone 7 years; 7 years I waited, hoping that you wouldn't come back. I never wanted you to come back to Gotham. I always knew there was nothing here for you except pain and tragedy. And I wanted something more for you than that. I still do.

I find it odd how in the second movie he said that Gotham needed batman

then that speech in the third

He was trying to uplift Bruce's spirits which had just been crushed by the Joker when Rachel was killed. In fact, that scene was a parallel to the scene in Batman Begins when he comforts young Bruce after his parents had been killed. In both scenarios, Bruce lost those who were close to him, whom he loved. And in both scenarios, he believed that he failed to prevent their deaths, that he was guilty of failing his beloveds. In both scenarios, Alfred re-iterates that they were beyond his control and that in spite of what happened, he has to eventually move past it and continue on in life and not be held back.

Why do we fall, master Wayne? So that we may learn to pick ourselves up.

(Bruce) You still haven't given up on me?

Never.
User avatar #60 to #58 - letriggs (03/06/2014) [-]
yes but he quite literally says "Gotham needs you"

then the next movie he is telling him to stop being batman

all poetic stuff aside Alfred get your **** together

The settings were different in each movie. In TDK, Batman had been on the scene for over a year, it was established that he was a presence and Alfred went along with it. Bruce was still on the Board for Wayne Enterprises and functioning within it, and outside of that he was carrying out justice on the streets. He even kept up his playboy antics. He was still young and everything was fine and dandy until the Joker came onto the scene. It was after the events of TDR that Alfred had a change of heart.

It was seeing him become a crippled recluse, a shadow of his former self, physically and mentally deteriorated, lonesome and withdrawn from life that prompted Alfred to urge him to abandon his senseless crusade on crime. He knew that Bruce was intending to re-emerge as Batman once more in order to go out with a bang. He knew that Bruce had nothing left and was not just willing, but outright wanting to die and was brashly prepared to throw himself out there against Bane and get himself killed. THAT'S why he told him to stop with the Batman nonsense altogether. **** changed since TDR and Alfred was pleading with him to just let it go and settle down for a normal life as opposed to wasting what time and ability he had left fighting evil.

My 11 year old daughter has recently discovered comic books. Current favorite is Power Girl. we bought a bunch from goodwill. So they are 1980s vintage if that makes a difference.

**cocosmama rolled a random image posted in comment #6 at Now that it's over. ** because it is still unusual for a girl to like comic books at least around here. Country bumpkins . And I am proud that she is willing to try something new and not change her opinion after being picked on by her male classmates.

She likes power girl. As a comic book character. When she draws her own pictures, she modifies the costume so that she doesn't have to draw what she calls the "boob crack". The boobs on power girl are the only thing she "kinda doesn't like".
