Funny fact: that ref has been demoted to 4th official due to the controversy (was just in the Honduras/Ecuador match)

To be fair, pretty much every ref I've seen at this world cup has been pretty ****

Oh my god, of course! I saw him on the match. Ouch.
#92 to #69 - gerfox (06/21/2014) [-]
That's not a demotion, 4th officials are always regular referees. They are just standing on the sideline dealing with the managers and substitutions. The reason why they're always regular refs is because they are the sub if the regular referee gets injured, or for some reason can't continue officiating the match.

If you watch the BPL, or some other major league you'll often recognize the 4th official.

I'm sure he won't be officiating any other match this world cup. At least he shouldnt.

I've often thought about this.

if a normal person suddenly suffered the loss of those senses (perhaps in an accident) then suicide is a fairly likely ocurrence. But for someone who was born like that, they've never known what sight is, and wouldn't miss it.

Mostly, organisms are born to be fairly happy in whatever form they began existing in
#10 to #9 - jonball (06/20/2014) [-]
I find it kinda odd how he would appreciate a sport like football if he was born blind and deaf.
And i think you are into something about being able to adapt to the situation, but i still believe you would feel empty and helpless knowing you are basically of no use at all and can't appreciate the things we do.
#21 to #1 - oxYKellark (06/20/2014) [-]
The best way I cant summarize it for the FJ like community is when your internet goes out or you had to shut it off for a period of time because of whatever. You think to yourself "why even go on the computer anymore?" Then suddenly you find yourself replaying COD2 single player missions, drawing stuff in paint and messing around with settings or looking through ever photo you ever saved. Sure the quality of the computer is diminished and very different without the internet but its not like you are just going to throw it away.

its sucks that people think this is deep, or enlightened, or true, because its really none of those things. its just some typical modern american computer loving retard ******** that a 16 year old would probably think is cool for gods sake.
its most likely just a case where he was born that way so he was never given the opportunity to experience life with sight and sound, so it makes no difference to him. what you said was just starry-eyed nonsense and the fact that i live in a world where so many people agree makes me angry and sad.

are you respond to him or AT him? it really just seems like you just tried to say some randomly profound thing, because what you said is completely out of context to the scenario, it doesn't have anything to do with the blind/deaf guy at all

are you saying he has no fear of death and therefore has no will to live? do you even know what point you were trying to make?

of course the will to live is equal to fear of death, thats what "i want to be alive" would imply, anybody who thinks that is deep is literally retarded

Deaf/blind people can either have people use sign language pressed onto their palms to feel what letters are being used, or by putting their fingers on certain parts of the face, feel the vibrations and recognize what a person is saying. being deaf/blind doesn't make you stupid.

User avatar #48 to #45 - uJUSTfailed (06/20/2014) [-]
I'm sure his friends can explain it to him. There's a large rectangular area like the one on his lap, people run back and forth trying to kick the ball, which i'm sure he's gotten his hands on one to feel, and try to make it into the goals, represented on the cardboard. it's very possible he's even been to a field himself.

now you see you are confusing the word hearing, this time, for knowledge. He cant hear the game but he can "hear about it" meaning someone can tell him what it is how popular it is , that everyone gets excited about it, how fun it looks etc. and when someone describes something you cant experience as practically the coolest thing ever humans tend to figure it really is awesome and will be interested.

User avatar #13 to #7 - lazorgator (06/20/2014) [-]
Theres a form of language for deaf blind people who develop it over time. Basically you hold their hand and draw patterns and shapes on their hand and these are words. Like Sign language but directly onto the person so they can feel it. If you are born this way im not really sure.
User avatar #16 to #13 - goldenfairy (06/20/2014) [-]
It's possible to use it once you've learned, but how to actually teach it?
I guess something like "food" or "water" will be obvious after many repeats, but what about other words?

its for people who are going deaf and blind, while they can still see or hear and communicate that way you teach them.
