I can definitely get in on this. It gives me kind of a Little People vibe almost www.youtube.com/watch?v=ju1FNslcCmU if I were to compare it to something.

You should just pack up and move to Russia already bro. Or at least somewhere in Eastern Europe. You'd fit right in. In fact, I bet you probably know more about their music culture then they do.

I guess so, but the approach to it seems really different to me. The Good, The Bad and The Ugly has a different range of moods it's going for and never runs with one idea for that long even if it comes back in a bunch of different tracks. I do see what you mean though. That's an interesting comparison I hadn't thought of.

The track 'Il Forte" definitely gives me that exact same vibe, gotta be the trumpet.

I'm trying to get all these pops out of the recording. This is a Goodwill quality record so it has some crap on it. I might finish that tonight or it might be tomorrow.

DOWNER INCOMING READ NO FURTHER IF YOU WANT TO MAINTAIN YOUR GOOD MOOD

Man, I don't feel good about anything right now. I visited my grandpa today, probably for one of the last times. I love this guy so much and he's just been wasting away over the last few months from cancer.

END SADNESS: NORMAL POST RESUMING

For some reason I haven't imported that album into itunes yet. Just got the zip file sitting in my downloads folder for however long it's been since you showed it to me. I love it though. I listened to the whole album when you posted it the first time. So dreamy. It's just been sitting in my ever-growing cloud of bandcamps you've sent me that I dig.
User avatar #3382 to #3381 - ultrablue ONLINE (10/27/2014) [-]
Well **** , son. I'm sorry to hear that. If you ever need to talk I'm here of course

But yeah, I've been playing that album tons since its release. I think it's ever so slowly inching its way into my favorite albums of the year.

Anyway, gotta go or something. But I'll be back at some other time.
User avatar #3383 to #3382 - themagicwizard (10/27/2014) [-]
I don't think I really need to, I don't know what there is to say anyway. I just feel terrible.

Later, breh. See you whenever you're done with your unspecified doings.

I have a few albums that I really love that came out this year, and I hardly ever have any idea when artists I like are going to release something new. One of them might release something between now and January 1st that blows me away. We'll see.

It looks like Muslimgauze's ghost has settled down a little this year, he's only released 2 new albums in 2014 so far, as opposed to 5 last year. I listened to the album Cobra Head Soup by him again today. It was really good, part of one of the songs really heavily reminded me of Burial, which I though was really cool.

If you download something of his, make sure to turn the volume down because everything by him is mixed extremely loud.

I love his stuff. You're sure I've never told you about him? He's a British dude that was way into Palestinian freedom and made an album basically every week until he died in 1999. He recorded so much stuff that multiple albums of his are still being released every year.

Thanks, bb. I need AAAAAAAALLLL the tracks. Made will just have to settle for being 3rd to last.

After 9/11, I remember in my elementary school, they made us sing that song every morning. For some reason it has some sort of special place in my heart now, even though it's on some patriotic steroids, which I'm not down with. But the cheesiness adds something to it that still makes it kind of good. lol.

How are you? Are you squid free on this fine evening?
User avatar #3344 to #3343 - ultrablue ONLINE (10/21/2014) [-]
Hahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa squid free. I was just rereading that conversation the other day. lel. Best emcee in the game, Franchize. Woooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!

I'm great though, totally squid free. Haven't eaten dinner yet so I'm trying to come up with something to eat cause there isn't much in my house that I want atm. How's you?
User avatar #3345 to #3344 - themagicwizard (10/21/2014) [-]
Pretty good, squid free for sure. That Schubert Impromptu is coming along. I was checking out some of the pile of records I got last weekend earlier today, I dun gud.

And Turkey is finally allowing the Kurdish Peshmerga to cross its borders to fight ISIS in Syria. What a great day!
User avatar #3346 to #3345 - ultrablue ONLINE (10/21/2014) [-]
Pile of records? Do tell.

I'm glad that your adoptive people of Turkey are doing well then, friend. Good music, and good people!
User avatar #3347 to #3346 - themagicwizard (10/21/2014) [-]
Seems like they've been acting like pretty big assholes recently, but what do I know?

I went to a big book sale last weekend and they had a ton of records too. For records, I got some cool classical/romantic stuff, and some goofy polka/Polish Christmas records and stuff like that. My friend got one by this psychic reader guy talking about horoscopes, which was fantastic.
User avatar #3348 to #3347 - ultrablue ONLINE (10/21/2014) [-]
Psychic reader guy? That sounds ripe for samples.

Also, Polish polkas? You listening to the music of my people now?
User avatar #3349 to #3348 - themagicwizard (10/21/2014) [-]
Lol, we already used it, he's sampled in the 2 songs on my soundcloud page with the squid picture as the cover.

Now? Polka has always been a given.
User avatar #3350 to #3349 - ultrablue ONLINE (10/21/2014) [-]
Heh well if you say so.

Actually I don't give a **** about polka. It's tre boring.
User avatar #3351 to #3350 - themagicwizard (10/21/2014) [-]
You have to let it into your soul... let the polka grow inside you and then gnaw its way out through your chest leaving behind a gaping hole filled with perogies.
User avatar #3352 to #3351 - ultrablue ONLINE (10/21/2014) [-]
But I can get perogies and kielbasa and galumpkis while still listening to Boards of Canada. It's a great combination, you should try it!

We definitely had some controversial moments. I unintentionally insulted black people and Brazilians, then hinted at support for Al Qaeda.

But we did have some other good stuff. We read from a UFO reports book, Chariots of the Gods by Erich von Däniken (Ancient Aliens guy) and Dante's inferno all at the same time over 2 NASA space recordings CDs playing simultaneously. Also another Death Grips song with the swears replaced by quacks, among other things.
User avatar #3324 to #3323 - ultrablue ONLINE (10/17/2014) [-]
LOL sounds like a grand old time. That eastern music is really having an effect on you eh? Next thing I know you're gonna be telling me you're joining ISIS. heh.

Speaking of UFOs (well maybe not, I dunno) woob.bandcamp.com/album/have-landed

Check that. My latest bandcamp purchase. You may like. I thought it was mostly ambient when I got it, but it uses a lot of orchestration as well. Also, his newest album is called Ambient Disaster Movie. AHEM. AMBIENT. DISASTER. MOVIE. How is that not the greatest? I'm gonna peep that next when I get some more mula.
User avatar #3325 to #3324 - themagicwizard (10/17/2014) [-]
Lolol, the Al Queda thing happened because I was portraying that hipster stereotype of liking something after it's gone out of style, like everyone's moved onto ISIS and Al Qaeda is now an obscure and retro terrorist group.

I see now that I was probably the only one on Earth that got that joke...

We also posted some new songs on soundcloud in the last few days, which we played a few of.

This is so cool, god damn. I love the cover too. Thanks m808B Scorpion MBT.

I just remembered seeing the band name listed in the soundtrack credits from a snowboarding video a while ago.

AND TO THINK YOU THOUGHT I ACTUALLY LISTEN REGULARLY TO SOMETHING WITH OVER 15 VIEWS, HAH!!!!!!

Brian Eno is popular ambient music, it exists www.youtube.com/watch?v=aKw5mbcE7VY

Yeah, dude. It hurts me to listen to things with so many youtube views and likes and comments. It's like I'm just part of all the sheeple. Thinking about deleting all the Bonobo and Boards of Canada and all the other stuff that's on youtube with millions of views just so I can go full purist, y'know?

Eno I've heard of. But there's singing too. I guess that's what makes it cross the threshold.

Lol, you should get rid of Bibio too. Lover's Carvings has over 1,000,000 views. Anyone on Warp, really. That label's too big for artists signed to it to be safe from fame and success.

User avatar #3314 to #3313 - ultrablue ONLINE (10/17/2014) [-]
It's probably his most famous story. Basically it's about a guy who turns into a bug and then tries to cope with his family's reactions to his new state.

When I type the synopsis out like that it sounds like it could be a brand new CBS sitcom or something lol.
User avatar #3315 to #3314 - themagicwizard (10/17/2014) [-]
I've read about him a little bit, it sounds like so much is lost in the translation from German.

Now I'm imagining the movie The Fly, and Jeff Goldblum as a giant fly sitting awkwardly with his family at Thanksgiving.
User avatar #3316 to #3315 - ultrablue ONLINE (10/17/2014) [-]
Almost, except more depressing. They mostly just keep him locked in a room all the time.

I may check out some more Kafka in the future. It was probably the best thing that I read in that class. Most of it was boring and meh and with no sparknotes for the majority of them because most of them were all obscure eastern writers.
User avatar #3317 to #3316 - themagicwizard (10/17/2014) [-]
He definitely sounds like a kind of writer I could be into.

You should've bought that up to your professor. "Hey, I noticed that there aren't sparknotes entries for any of these authors. Obviously nobody cares about them, so why do they even matter to us? Let's read Harry Potter instead."

I'll check on that right now for ya, boss.

Also, FJ has no sense of humor

AND ONE MORE THING
www.youtube.com/watch?v=4J2a8zmu0b0
Do you know Hecq? He's got some really nice ambient stuff.
User avatar #3224 to #3223 - ultrablue ONLINE (09/27/2014) [-]
Thanks, bruh.

I got No Better Time Than Now. Figured I'd start with the newest. It's pretty fantastic.

I spread some of that patriotism for ya, no worries.

Never heard of Hecq. I like it though. I dig when the brief like, vocal synths come in here and there. It reminds me of the Halo song haha. The ambient movement is real. And by movement I mean I am getting more and more ambient **** lol.
User avatar #3225 to #3224 - themagicwizard (09/27/2014) [-]
I think I'm gonna get on that ambient jam again soon. I occasionally have periods where I just look around and find a bunch of stuff from one genre. I did it with psychedelic rock/abstract psychedelic stuff, then ambient a while ago. Then this whole middle-eastern thing happened and everything went to hell from there. I think I'm ready to start obsessively gathering ambient again.

And deeeyum ******* , it's 5.8GB
User avatar #3226 to #3225 - ultrablue ONLINE (09/27/2014) [-]
Alright, that's a fookin lot. But, luckily I have 6.4 gb, so it's still just enough. Phew.

I myself can't get out of the rap whirlwind. Most of the new releases that I've listened to this year have been rap albums.

Speaking of new ambient releases though, I think I showed you 36 before right? Well he put out a new album in July and I really need to but that soon because that **** sounds immaculate. 3six.bandcamp.com/
#3227 to #3226 - themagicwizard (09/27/2014) [-]
Oh sheeit, yeah. I remember that guy, sweet. I'll check that out. Gotta see what my ambient dudes are up to. I'm terrible at keeping track of artists and when they release stuff.

No Better Time than Now is awesome, did I tell you I talked with him for a few minutes after a show a couple months ago? I should have asked him if he had any collaborations with rappers in the works/in mind, or new stuff in general. But I always blow it in those situations and basically just compliment them on the show and their music.

FJ continues to be no fun
User avatar #3228 to #3227 - ultrablue ONLINE (09/27/2014) [-]
Yeah, actually that's exactly how I am with meeting musicians or whoever. I met one of my favorite bands, Anti-Flag, years ago, and I had all the chances in the world to talk about so much **** , and I just was like "uhh yeah, I like you guys. heh." Lame ass lame.

LOL I love your responses though. Troll game be like woah.

User avatar #3232 to #3231 - ultrablue ONLINE (09/27/2014) [-]
Hahaha that would actually be great. Usually people who try to pawn their music off on random people it's like, ****** rap or some indie stuff. It would be a nice twist to hand out some strange experimental stuff lol.

"So I was in NYC last weekend, and this guy convinced me to take a copy of his mixtape. I put it in yesterday just to see how bad it was... and it's just monkey screeches, chanting and people talking about jews and communists."

HAHAHA I would pay to see that reaction. LOL his mixtape.
User avatar #3235 to #3234 - themagicwizard (09/27/2014) [-]
One of my friends actually bought a guy's mixtape when we were in NYC one time, I think he might be retarded. He paid the dude $6 for it, and the guy insisted the CD was free, but wanted a "tip." He also advertised it as a jazz CD, even though it was clearly going to be ****** rap. It was the dumbest **** . I think the title was "Love & Politics" and not a single song made reference to either of those things. There was one song about "secret money" or something which made us all lol though. I still have the CD.
User avatar #3236 to #3235 - ultrablue ONLINE (09/27/2014) [-]
Hahaha oh wow. I kind of want to hear that. It's probably amazing, but probably not even close to as amazing as Rap Tyson (think I showed you him before, maybe in the plug.dj ) www.youtube.com/watch?v=17PvwH1--eo

Not much. Music, the usual. Not sure I'm gonna get Destiny now. Don't have enough memory and apparently you can't put it on a usb drive, it has to be an xbox hard drive. So I'm ****** unless I wanna spend even more money on a new xbox hard drive AND a transfer cable which I don't even have the money for and I'm not sure how long they are gonna keep making 360 games so it probably wouldn't even be worth it. So you may be Destinying without me still :/

Sup wit chu
User avatar #3198 to #3197 - themagicwizard (09/24/2014) [-]
lol, what a sad paragraph. If I was in your position, I'd definitely consider getting a hard drive because I'm going to continue using it/getting old games for it for the foreseeable future. I still buy games for my original xbox.

You can't transfer some other stuff from your hard drive to a usb?

I'm chilling, listening to Aphex Twin's new album, Syro. It's pretty cool.
User avatar #3199 to #3198 - ultrablue ONLINE (09/24/2014) [-]

I went there with my sister because she had a grad school fair/convention thing. While she was at that for 3 hours, I checked out the new Trade Center building/monuments. They had 2 huge spotlight setups going, it was crazy. You could look straight up and they just kept going. I wonder how much power that took. GOD DAMN YOU AND YOUR AAC FILES Yeah, it doesn't really matter to me.

I dunno, I still have to really check it out. I haven't listened to every song on it yet. From what I've listened to, it's kinda in between, it has vocals anyway. It came before Geotic though.

I'll upload it now.
User avatar #3146 to #3145 - ultrablue ONLINE (07/30/2014) [-]
HMMMMM INTRIGUING

The next Geotic album is supposed to be voice based, while this one was guitar based. I wonder what that'll sound like... is there another Geotic album that uses a lot of voice? I just thought he used singing in Baths
User avatar #3147 to #3146 - themagicwizard (07/30/2014) [-]
I think he used his voice in Winter Loops, but it was all chopped up. I'm pretty sure he never did an entirely vocal ep or album as Geotic, though, so it'll be something new. I'm excited for that and the piano one, I'm sure they'll sound pretty cool. I love messing around with piano sounds.

Looks like his angelfire page with all the free Geotic stuff just got taken down. GOOD THING I DOWNLOADED ALL OF IT OVER A YEAR AGO!

Well, I don't have all of it, but I found this band that does like folk stuff but they're some type of middle eastern. Forgot the name atm but it's good and I think you'd dig it. There was something else too, but I can't remember the name either. I saved their names in my artist document though.

Also, ************* Christopher Tin.

Hamsafar - Christopher Tin (feat. Sussan Deyhim)

Christopher Tin - Kia Hora Te Marino

Christopher Tin - Baba Yetu (feat. Soweto Gospel Choir)

This one you may have heard before. Most popular one and it was in Civ IV
User avatar #3128 to #3127 - themagicwizard (07/16/2014) [-]
I've never played any of the Civ games, but I've wanted to get Civ V for a while now.

I haven't listened to anything by Christopher Tin before, but there's something about it I'm not digging. I've never liked that kind of combination of western harmony/instrumentation and random non-western stuff. I don't know why, but i've always hated it with a passion, and I have to do it in choir all the time because apparently it makes choir directors piss their pants with joy.

Sorry for the super negative response. That just happens to be one of those things I actually have an opinion on.

There are some other bands like them, but something about them rubs me the right way. Like you know my husbando, Ihsan Ozgen? He did a collab album with his ensemble and a jazz band. I didn't dig that at all.

But I think the main thing I'm not into is the orchestral kind of setting. That's another thing I'm just not into on its own either, modern orchestral stuff like that. I know it's done all the time with bigger budget video games and movies, but in those cases, I have something to associate it with, and there's some sort of element to the sound that's tailored towards the genre or style of the game/movie it's connected to. Maybe if I knew his stuff from games I might be more okay with it, I dunno.
User avatar #3135 to #3134 - ultrablue ONLINE (07/16/2014) [-]
Interesting, but yeah that's what I was asking if it was mainly just like orchestrated contemporary stuff that you feel that way about.

Interesting too about the movie/video game thing. I dunno if I feel the same way when I listen to those. In some regard I associate them with that, but I like to think I can separate both music and medium enough to enjoy them individually. I dunno. It depends. I know I always enjoyed playing stuff we had to play back when I was in band in middle school so maybe it comes from that. Also, something about group chanting in other languages always gets me, no matter what kind of music it's in. Love that **** .
User avatar #3136 to #3135 - themagicwizard (07/16/2014) [-]
I can definitely separate them and enjoy them individually, I listen to video game soundtracks as much as any neckbeard, but I really like when they have some unique element that they had to have to make them fit in with whatever they were made for, like the Assassin's Creed 1 soundtrack or Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow with all that great breakbeat, subdued spy sounding stuff, and movie soundtracks like Moon with all its bleepy space station noises or The Machinist, where the whole thing is so eerie and the theremin just makes it.

User avatar #3139 to #3138 - ultrablue ONLINE (07/16/2014) [-]
Well, I mean, it really is a hard thing to pinpoint. I often feel "I just like it" or "I just don't like it" is a valid argument, because over analyzing it can be dizzying. This is why shib.e gets into thousands of lengthy thread arguments trying to explain himself with whatever the **** he's talking about lol.
User avatar #3140 to #3139 - themagicwizard (07/16/2014) [-]
That's true, maybe just a little more aware of why I like things, and only with people who I actually want to give an explanation to.

Got back from a concert my friend won tickets to, met some cool hip hop guys. Then I drove around town listening to mystical sufi music with a friend of mine who's leaving for Japan in a couple hours. Now I'm checking out some albums that I've been looking for for months, and finally found all of them in super good quality. Overall a really sweet day.

A fun day is a productive day if you ask me.

I got this little audio adapter thing so I can use my new headset that I talked about and use my HDMI cable at the same time. And I got a Nintendo eshop card thing so I can buy some old classic Nintendo games for my Wii U.

Hop Along is the main band I wanna see though they aren't even the headliner. Just basically Rock/Indie Rock stuff. I've been obsessed with them though.

I think I know what you mean, both digging Ohrenbetaubende Stille and appreciating it in that atmosphere.

I just remembered another cool album experience I've had, from this winter:

Walking across a frozen lake for 2 miles listening to Substrata by Biosphere, with thin snow drifts blowing across the surface all around me.

User avatar #3102 to #3101 - ultrablue ONLINE (06/17/2014) [-]
That's awesome. Truly.

Yeah I feel like no one I know IRL strives for those experiences of using music as a backdrop to awesome atmospheres. That's why I always liked doing the 3 hour drive to and from college and home at night because certain parts of the drive you'd be around just trees and no cars and I always tried to time it with listening to something really fitting and peaceful. One time I even drove back during a meteor shower (I didn't know it at the time, I was just like, wtf are these blue ***** in the sky and am I just seeing things? heh)
User avatar #3103 to #3102 - themagicwizard (06/17/2014) [-]
I love those drives, I haven't done one in a while though. My friend sometimes does those with me, and we'll listen to Swans usually, then he gets weirded out by some songs and changes it to some random thing, which is weird, because he's the one who listens to Swans, not me.

Niqqa how did you not know they were meteors?

You just reminded me of another one

In Florida last summer, there was a meteor shower and nobody else wanted to go watch it with me, so I took my bike out at like 2 or 3am and rode around the island I was on, to find a vacant spot to watch it. I listened to this really chilled out EP of remixed Shlohmo songs by Teebs, Nicolas Jaar, Airhead, and some other people. After a little bit, I rode across to the beach and watched a bit more of it from there, and ended up seeing a huge green sea turtle making its way back into the water after laying its eggs. I definitely think more of that EP after that, and it was such an awesome time to listen to it.

User avatar #3104 to #3103 - ultrablue ONLINE (06/17/2014) [-]
Jesus that's a great story. Idk how it could get more awesome than that.

I don't think I had ever seen a meteor shower in person before that night, so I had no idea. Then I got home and after browsing the web a bit I found out that there was one that night and I was like "ooohhhh."

Damn it, now I just wanna go walk this lake tomorrow (if I can get my ass out of bed early enough) and listen to tunes. I haven't been to said lake in awhile so it should be good. There's a relatively small lake that's behind my house that I do like walking around sometimes, but it's always really crowded with people unfortunately. I did see a beaver/muskrat last time though so that made up for it.
User avatar #3106 to #3104 - themagicwizard (06/17/2014) [-]
I also made a thread about this stuff on the music board
User avatar #3105 to #3104 - themagicwizard (06/17/2014) [-]
Do it, man. Those are some awesome memories, and they make the albums you listen to even better, I think. All you need to do to clear the people out is start wearing a gorilla suit or something and sneak around in the trees.

I'm going to Colorado in a couple weeks. I dunno if I'll have any alone time because some friends are coming along too, but if I do, I'm gonna go hiking and listen to some Asura or something and it's gonna be awesome. I'm definitely gonna have to listen to some albums during bike rides around the mountains.
User avatar #3107 to #3105 - ultrablue ONLINE (06/17/2014) [-]
Damn, you keep getting this great atmospheric opportunities. Colordo mountains will be perfect most likely.

I need to take advantage and go weird places while I can by myself. My friends and I like to go exploring, but obviously we usually aren't listening to music during.

And ya,I just replied to the thread as you prolly saw
