I never got the hate France gets. I mean, they're the only country to have consistently been America's ally since our inception, they helped us gain our independence from Britain, they've helped us in multiple wars that we probably wouldn't have won otherwise (The War of 1812, The Civil War), and they built one of our main symbols of freedom and democracy: The Statue of Liberty. The French are bros in my books.

Sorry bud, but you were taught your history wrong. The War of 1812 goes to Canada.

The reason they get so much **** is that they lost so quickly in World War 2 and lost in Vietnam. Then they refused to support several international policing movements by the UN and then also did not support the 2nd gulf war.

Now to put this in perspective: They lost so quickly in World War 2 because of the absolutely crushing casualties sustained in World War 1. When they say they lost a generation of the most productive segment of their population they are being almost literal. In addition a large amount of the French army escaped from France early in the war and fought during the campaigns after D-day during the liberation of France and I believe they had some major roles in the North African campaign. This also doesn't account for the actions and courage of the French resistance.

Vietnam was a war that the French army was ill-adapted for and ultimately a war that the French people didn't particularly want.

The rest of it has been deliberate policy choices on the part of the French government for various reasons.

Ignore everyone else. They hate France because they're pricks that don't bathe.

On the other side, I wouldn't forget Napoleon who got similar "success" (uh) when it came to conquering Europe as did Germany in ww2.

MFW I see captain America cut a man in half with his shield and the most violent thing I ever saw him do was cut off a Chitauri's arm in The Avengers.

I would kill to be the person who teaches, in depth, actual French history to Americans.

You would kill to teach a class history on a country they can't find on a map?

Mot people are aware that its just a joke. And a good chunk of us actually know something of French history, its the same reason the Murica jokes work. People KNOW we're not all manatees on scooters with AK 47s, but its hilarious to joke about it.
User avatar #306 to #244 - Loppytaffy (08/30/2013) [-]
Yes but there's a good number of Americans who can support that stereotype.
I can't name any wars that France has surrendered.
Sure, they've lost battles, but boy do they fight hard.
Even in WWII they remained on the allies despite losing

Well i just think more accurate jokes are funny. Or ironic ones.
Like America's "freedom!" and Russia being crazy.
France has a long and proud history of winning wars and profiting off the back of them. England may hate France, but we still respect them.

Millar has done some really good stuff, and some really ****** stuff. He wrote some pretty good stuff like Kick Ass, then some ******* atrocious stuff like Kick Ass 2. dont EVER read Kick Ass 2. the movies okay because its nothing like the book.
