Whenever you pass by a middle-aged man-about-town grabbing onto rogue telephone wires just so he can feel alive again, make sure to sneak up on him with your blanket/burlap sack from behind. Everyone loves surprises.

Wild dog attack? Just grab the nearest ten-foot bamboo pole. The dog in front will be distracted by the disguise while the dog in back will be distracted by your vulnerable, delicious friend. Run fast! Dogs eat quickly.

Need to light a match in the wind? blocking with your hand is only mildly effective; it's best to increase surface area and make sure the whole thing catches fire. Bonus life hack: third degree burns are great for garnering sympathy.

The water filter one is backwards. it's supposed to get rid of the big things first, then the small.

As a pool operator, the water filter one looks almost exactly like the most common of pool filters, the sand filter. Although this will remove the water of debris, germs and bacteria will still be present.

No, you put a cloth in the bottom. I've done this before camping. It's fast and effective, just not against pathogens.

Well, it is possible to just use a chainsaw and cut nearly all the way through, but that's pretty risky.

The lit shavings are harder to blow out in a gentle wind than just the tip of the match, along with the fact that the flame will be larger overall.

What is "coarse" sand? There's only one type of sand, how can it be coarse?

fine sandpaper would be that you find at the beach, course would be that you find at the bottom of a dry creek

Some sand grains are smaller then others. The smallest are "fine" while the bigger grains are course. Think of sandpaper.
Course is more rough while fine is smoother

I don't know about that, California beach sand is much finer and smoother then Arizona desert sand.
a trip to your local home depot or gardening store can show you the differance

Instead of actual coarse sand, non-clumping cat litter works well.
