I posted this in reply to someone who ended up saying they didn't know enough english to bother reading it, and I just can't waste the analogy. I hope it helps:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Color_field

Even though artists may ascribe their own meaning to a work, on the viewers end it's about personal interpretation or aesthetic appreciation. Alot of times minimalism is about what ISN'T there and the meaning is whatever you imagine to fill in the gaps. If it helps, think about it as the start of a porno where everyone has their clothes on and your imagination is running wild. Sometimes it turns out that what you imagined was way better than the reality of seeing their warty crotch or hairy pits or whatever (assuming thats not your thing, anyway).

Oh man, this image is so deep. It conveys how different we all are to one another, yet there is still an underlying similarity between each of us. The Duality of Man is truly a work of genius.

I was hoping it was gonna be a famous piece and all those condescending artfags were gonna look stupid.

So in conclusion: Art isn't easy?

I'm not sure I see your point, OP. or rather the point someone on reddit was trying to make

It means Art is useless and nobody needs it and that art students are nothing but monkeys throwing money at art "schools"

art...i call it "infamous". it represents how someone can be so hated, yet such a bliss.

Put that picture on an art gallery wall and you WILL get people who'll praise it. You WILL get people that do it.

There was a guy who actually did that and it's somewhere on Youtube. It got to the point where security wouldn't let him edit his own painting. It was also something he drew up quite quickly.

Bloody hilarious if you ask me because artists are probably some of the biggest scammers on earth. Don't need any talent at all and the only way to get in is by a freak accident and after that you can do whatever the hell you want.

It's hard to find and I tried to find it.

Basically he goes into an art gallery in London I believe and while in there he tries to find a place for the paining. But the guards in the start stops him a few times and it's only until he lost the guards that he's able to put it onto a wall with a name tag under it.

Then he waits for people to judge it.

Abstract art is about conveying the idea/motivation behind the piece in an unconventional way, at least, that's how I see it

The guys who replied as "im an art student" believed it was abstract because he said it was, so they took him seriously.

At least, that's how I see it. A lot of scribbles and messes can be passed as abstract art, but if the person who made it had no real motivation behind it, then it's just an insult to people who actually make abstract.

I'm not an abstract artist, or even an artist, but I think people give abstract artist a hard time simply because it doesn't look super amazing and realistic or flashy...

The average person looks at art to be impressed or affected by it. Cheese with hair coming off of it (abstract art) comes across as being just weird.

People give abstract artists a hard time because it can take 30 seconds to make a thing like that in paint and then they sell it for 100 bucks to other stupid artists
