The Declaration of Independence only alluded to God at the end "appealing to the Supreme Judge of the world for the rectitude of our intentions" (probably required since they were technically breaking an oath to God to follow the King of England by telling said King of England to "shove it").

The Articles of Confederation... doesn't mention God at all. Well who cares about that broken system. They placed that piece of crap with...

The Constitution...oh, this is embarrassing. It doesn't mention God either.

The only reference is in the First Amendment which protect the Freedom of Religion. The freedom to practice or the freedom not to practice. That way everyone would have the choice to do what they want to do.

Don't get the wrong idea, the Founding Fathers were all Christians. But they realized that a person's rights is more important that your own beliefs.

You witness to others by your actions, not by beating them with words.

The founding fathers were also against a 2 or 1 party system, centralized banks, prohibitions (of any kind), taxes, a large federal government, giving or accepting foreign aid, credit based currency, etc. Hasn't stopped the tyrannical federal government yet.

The founding fathers' original government also failed too... (the articles of confederation)... this does not denounce what may be going on in the govt., but we must not blindly follow the peoples who's own time was vastly foreign compared to our own...

I'm not saying it was perfect. What I am saying though is that a lot of the constitution was meant to protect the average Joe. What the government does now ***** Joe right in the ass, steals a quarter of his yearly earnings to protect banks, corporations, and their interests while funding wars that Joe doesn't agree with, and instituting laws and regulations that almost make it impossible for Joe to get more than a sliver of the golden pie we call the American dream.

They were not against taxes. They were against taxes with out representation.

To compel a man to furnish funds for the propagation of ideas he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical.
― Thomas Jefferson
Your not wrong. But where's my representation? Other than a few potholes being filled what do the taxes I pay do for me? Oh spend $500,000 on painting the ceiling of a prison? Totally helps me. Oh bailout a company that makes more money in 1 hour than I will ever see in a lifetime? Awesome that helps me sleep at night. Create a Law enforcement that worries more about giving me a speeding and extorting me into paying it, rather than coming sooner than 3 hours to stop my neighbor from beating his wife to death. totally got there priorities straight . Oh the presidents wife went on a $10,000 shopping spree on a tropical island with tax money damn that's cool, wish i could fix my car so I don't lose hours and can provide for my family? Nope 1200 is out of my budget to bad I don't have millions of people paying for my shopping sprees. Where's the representation bud? I sure as **** haven't seen it.

I see what you are saying, however, it is also difficult to represent billions of people who each have their own opinions. Joe as a whole unit doesn't exactly have his mind made up. Also, a majority of people ask "where's my voice?" and yet they refuse to vote because if they end up in the minority, they think that the government rigged the votes. I am not defending the government, as I know things are not as they should be, but then again, no matter what government we have it either begins or ends corrupt, as history has shown. Whatever government we have will end up corrupt. Hell, there was even a scandal with John Adams - something along the lines of Adams setting up the Supreme Court lineup when it was supposed to be Jefferson's choice.... help me if I'm wrong, it's been 4 years since I learned about this particular scandal...

Tell me, can you vote? There is your representation. Vote. Write letters to your congressman and senators. There is your representation.

Join a political movement if you think your voice isn't being heard. Become a political activist.

Too much work for you? Yeah, that's what I thought. You have every chance to be represented, but you have to do something to make it happen.

For a Hippy you're a Statist bitch. Show me the candidate who's pro small business, anti Fed, anti large bank, and anti war then he'll get my vote. But wait in 2008 wasn't Obama all those things? Now he's just as bad as Bush and is even involved in more wars and assassinations than he was. Now are you telling me that politicians would lie to gain people's trust? Go **** yourself you blind ******* moron.

Way to prove a point. Oh, wait, you didn't.
User avatar #189 to #187 - redstag (07/14/2013) [-]
And what point did you prove? Cause I'm sorry the democratic process doesn't work at all. And with the media we have there could 10 million activist could be protesting right in front of the white house and you wouldn't even know about it. And if this were any other country there would be riots all across this damn place.

i think people are often more surprised to hear that english is not the official language and us white folk actually look pretty silly when we yell at mexicans for not speaking it.

english is the "de facto" language; most often used, but not legal.

You're right. The correct answer is "America is an anglican nation." Most other christian faiths were heavily percecuted.

Our natural rights are denied by as many Christians as non-Christians. Don't pretend you're any more respecting of rights because you are or aren't a Christian.

I don't see why religion is a thing. It's an afterthought. Everyone knows the bible isn't literal, unless they're ******* crazy. The thought that an old jew man died and came back to life magically to right all the wrongs of humans is utmost insanity and just ridiculous. All it comes down to is whether there's a higher power with a plan. And not you, not me, nobody can say whether or not there is a higher power.

So why the hell do we talk about it so much? It's an afterthought. This question doesn't matter and doesn't change anything in our daily lives.
User avatar #29 to #17 - dedaluminus (07/13/2013) [-]
Yeah, but see, the problem is that 80% of practicing christians take at least half of the bible literally.
User avatar #30 to #29 - demandsgayversion (07/13/2013) [-]
Well they're ******* idiots. Nobody can say this is offensive, it's a fact that if you believe in talking ******* snakes and a magic sky man who grants wishes, you're ******* crazy.

Religion will never disappear. Ever. And there will always be those who take it literally.
User avatar #34 to #32 - demandsgayversion (07/13/2013) [-]
It's way too early to say that. Just a little over 100 years ago, there were cowboys. All scientific knowledge and accumulated common sense, we've gained in the last 100 years. I understand old civilizations didn't know any better than to believe these things, and we're barely starting to understand how ridiculous it is. I'd say religion is rare by the end of the century.

"As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion,—as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquility, of Mussulmen [Muslims],—and as the said States never entered into any war or act of hostility against any Mahometan [Mohammedan] nation, it is declared by the parties that no pretext arising from religious opinions shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries."
