This logic is predicated on the assumption that prisms are magical light clones and portal guns are fancy flash lights and also exist in real life

why wouldnt you just repeat 5-6, also if it worked the same way, you would just get two smaller quarters..

that woudln't happen, it'd be a 50/50 chance of which portal it comes out of

1. This would only work if portal guns projected EMR, which I'm pretty sure they don't
2. If they did the beam wouldn't split in two, it would diffract , causing a **** ton of overlapping portals which I would have to assume would just create one bigger portal

that just might work but portal guns only work on objects that have moon rock dust on it.

No. These that is not true at all.
Nowhere in the game did it ever say they could only be put on moon rock dust. It was simply stated that crushed moon rocks are good material for it, that being said, what about those parts where you go around outside of the testing chambers? And the old testing chambers that were made before Cave decided to buy moon rocks...

this is also why you were allowed to put a portal on the moving plate to cut the neurotoxin generator. it was carrying moon-dust covered plates which conduct portals better than their regular portal surfaces....
