wouldn't you throw something in worth more than a quarter
User avatar #197 to #168 - jacksipian (07/06/2013) [-]
if you throw in a dollar bill, youre going to have two exactly similar dollar bills, and you can never use them together, because that **** will catch on, if you use anything bigger than a coin or $1 bill, its going to be REALLY obvious REALLY fast that youre counterfeiting money and you will go to jail. was it worth it? no, because humans are dumb.

throwing something in worth more than a quarter does doesn't necessarily apply to just money

it would probs just make a portal on the prisim
User avatar #12 to #11 - dustykeyboard ONLINE (07/05/2013) [-]
unless the prism is cowered in moon rock paint the portal won't stick
#14 to #12 - divinedrgn (07/05/2013) [-]
and then nothing would come of shooting the portal gun at it lol.

I'm pretty sure the portals aren't light anyway.
User avatar #211 - TodayIAmMe (07/06/2013) [-]
was the prism made of moon?
User avatar #189 - Sockopolis (07/06/2013) [-]
Prisms only split light. Portals arent made of light.

A good idea, but science pulls through in the end.

User avatar #46 to #44 - shinyarmor (07/05/2013) [-]
well you should wonder what happens if you close one of the portals. they may close along with the clones
User avatar #66 to #46 - spamalope (07/06/2013) [-]
But wouldn't both of you think the other one is the clone? So you two would go and try to kill each other
User avatar #67 to #66 - shinyarmor (07/06/2013) [-]
you would both be real. as in it doesnt mattter which one wins. the thought process will be the same ALWAYS neither is a clone.
User avatar #68 to #67 - spamalope (07/06/2013) [-]
Actually, wouldn't both of you be clones?
User avatar #74 to #68 - shinyarmor (07/06/2013) [-]

a lightning bolt spontaneously rearranges a bunch of molecules such that, entirely by coincidence, they take on exactly the same form that Davidson's body had at the moment of his untimely death... How does a lightning bolt create a person? whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat
User avatar #79 to #58 - cheatman (07/06/2013) [-]
I'd go with the 'He's me in so far as he does stuff I'd do', but if the copy would want to do somat new, then it becomes it's own individual.

Sort of like alternate realities, one reality's differences are so minute you'd probably never find it, or another reality where the differences are so overwhelming it becomes completely alien.
User avatar #231 to #79 - internetrage (07/06/2013) [-]
ah, but given that the person is exactly the same in every way to the person that died, the choices made would be exactly the same. i guess the only variable is the fact that the second person appeared in a slightly different place to the first, which die to chaos theory could potentially, through a long chain of increasingly divulgent events, lead to bigger changes later on resulting in a different individual. but suppose that the swampman appears in the exact same place? no change whatsoever. reminds me of an episode of 'red dwarf' where the ships crew all die and one is replaced by a hologram. the crew member says 'but this isnt me, thats me on the floor' (referring to a pile of dust where he died)
User avatar #232 to #231 - cheatman (07/07/2013) [-]
You're going by the principle if a person is replaced, not duplicated as in this example. If there was just one, then no one would ever really know, since there is only really one 'person' at a time.
If two copies existed at the same time, by then that theory would indicate they would do EVERYTHING the same as eachother, both wanting to watch the same movie at the same time from the same chair. It would then be the choices made afterwards that determines the differences, like which one would then decide to sit in another chair first.
User avatar #234 to #232 - internetrage (07/07/2013) [-]
but in the swampman thought experiment there is no duplicate - the man dies at the precise moment the clone is created..
User avatar #235 to #234 - cheatman (07/07/2013) [-]
Ah, yeah, derailed myself slightly, but yeah, it only really comes down to outside oppinion as to whether a copy is the same person or not.
A person can actually change their personality and mannerisms naturally, sometimes even on a whim, but their friends and family will definitely notice and decide there if they are same person or not. Choices and their outcomes are what make a person, not the genetic make up or the accesible data.

How about this, make a team of you's and start a corporation or something, you know exactly what they need to make it (living expenses, medical, etc) by and never have to over pay them (cause they are you) more profit for the original at the end of the year kill off the work force and get a new, fresh, ready to go crew. they will never know.
