If you can't be smart, be clever. Not many people can tell the difference anyways.

Don't agree with "Just because you can doesn't mean you should". I live my life by "If you can, why not?"

Now you ask yourself, why not?. Then if the answer is "I am potentially putting my life and the life of others in danger through pure stupidity".. You don't do it.

That is pretty much the same thing as, "Just because you can doesn't mean you should".

See, if you can, why not? doesn't apply to deliberately putting yourself and others in harms way, only someone with mental issues would do that. It has the same meaning as Carpe Diem. "Just because you can doesn't mean you should" has more of a negative connotation in my view, kind of stifling you from taking a potentially worthwhile risk.

For me its more of a pessimistic vs optimistic view. with "if you can" being the optimistic.

I did read the other comments. and while you have a valid point. "if you can, why not" AND "just because you can doesn't mean you should" are both equally valid. Being specific with the Bullies, they aren't mentally disabled they are just jackasses, "why not" is a challenge not a reason to think. It may have a more negative tone but "just because you can doesn't mean you should" applies to more situations

Its not a competition with which phrase applies to the most situations. I just find my phrase is more appropriate due to the fact that its has an optimistic undertone and I prefer it over the pessimistic "Just because you can". Also I actually said mental issues, not a disability, and psychologists would argue directly that people who deliberately cause harm to others for no reason do have mental issues, ranging from an underdeveloped brain to insecurity issues.

Mental issues** <-- Agreed and thanks for the correction. As for the quote, I see it not as a negative/pessimistic dont take risks statment. its a warning, don't be stupid. I can take risks, and be the better for it, without being stupid

I guess its all just down to a matter of perspective then. By the way I would just like to thank you, you're probably the first person that disagrees with me that hasn't led the discussion into an argument consisting of insults thrown back and forth needlessly. Nice to see there's people on here with a respectable level of maturity.

If by efficient you mean good at creating government debt that will slow the economy and damage future economic prospects to temporarily alleviate a small portion of current hardship, then yeah Keynes was right on the money.

Adam Smith's theories had some flaws but the later Austrians did a good job of plugging the holes. Read "Human Action" by Ludwig Von Mises for a complete understanding.
