Has the general majority of us even spoken to a girl much less found personal reason to hate them?
User avatar #204 to #201 - zzzanzitron (06/30/2013) [-]
not much, but with this world there's less people that can be trusted, it's that way
User avatar #206 to #204 - elcreepo (06/30/2013) [-]
True, but the overall hatred of women seems a bit much for a community like ours.

Better than white knighting and wanting to screw every girl that comes online, though.

In their way, I'm a misogynistic slut. I've heard that one from a feminist, and to be honest, I'm really proud of it.

I've spoken to actual feminists, and they believe almost none of what we portray of them. Sure there are angry feminist trolls, just like there are angry douchebag trolls, but most are actually for equality. There is alot of anger and frustration vented on this site towards women, little of it is productive.

many people on the internet have (irl) had one major failure in pursuing women (ie the friend zone), and in their bitterness and spite, decide to adopt the classic misogynist attitude of the internet

From my experience and hearing of others, I've been disgustingly catcalled and harassed by construction workers. So this picture doesn't look that unfair to me.

I've been catcalled a few times. Usually when I'm in a dress and heels and was feeling particularly fabulous. Here's a tip: If a man whistles at you, don't respond. You're a lady, not a dog. Just keep walking with your head held high, and remember that it's okay to feel a little bit flattered.

Rude comments aren't okay, but I always feel complimented if a guy whistles at me.

I never really understood why women get upset about cat calling.

Obviously if they're shouting cat calls they find you attractive, I'd take that as a compliment. When you go dress shopping with your girlfriends they say much dirtier and disgusting things to you when you walk out in that sleek and sexy new dress, but you just giggle and laugh with them. (I've been dress shopping with a group of girls, accepted into their order and learned their ways. Girls at least 10 times more perverted and profane than most men I know.)

However, even if you find it inappropriate, they're just words. Since we were all itty bitty toddlers we've been told by our elders time and time again that words can only hurt you if you let them. You don't know these people and chances are you'll only see them the one time. Who cares what they say? Why let it bother you?

They're saying you're sexy and desirable. Yeah, they're uncouth, piggish, and chauvanistic, but the fact is they're not actually doing anything to hurt you. Seriously, just walk by and go on with your day like it didn't even happen.
User avatar #72 to #41 - paintplayer (06/30/2013) [-]
And furthermore, how about catcalling back a little bit? I'd have a stupid grin on 24/7 if women catcalled at me and made me feel at least a little attractive.
User avatar #84 to #41 - monkee (06/30/2013) [-]
From personal experience it gets quite tiring when a group shout aggressive sexual advances to you (worst are builders, no doubt about it). It's very intimating to have lewd statements thrown at you simply because of your gender. Women are not attracted to that, because it seems childish and does not fit the 'romantic' stereotype. In general women want to feel like they are your one and only, not be compared either to other women or amongst a group. Women who are intelligent do not want to be judged on their looks alone, so catcalling does not impress them at all.

If you ask them to stop, they get worse. If you ignore them, it never stops. It wouldn't be the first time some desperate guy has followed me jeering. That's when it gets scary. We're all taught about rape culture etc but wtf are you supposed to do in that situation? When you're being objectified on a daily basis you get sick of it. I'm all for gender equality but I also believe both sexes need to learn more about each other, as sometimes we're ******* blind to each genders needs and wants.

I know I'll probably get attacked for simply revealing I'm a girl, but I'm trying to explain the majority of the female populations logic. May seem pretty strange, but both sexes respond to different social cues.
User avatar #306 to #84 - subaqueousreach (06/30/2013) [-]
Well I can understand your point of view, and yes it's probably terrifying if it gets any farther than just catcalling. No one can ever give you the proper answer on how to handle a situation like that though, because each one is different because no two people think alike. Do whatever you feel will keep you safe in that instance and hope for the best.

However in most cases it will never get this far, and in the end it really is just harmless shouting. Annoying yes, but harmless all the same. I'm not trying to sound like I'm defending it in any way, because I don't much care for it myself, but there really are worse things to be dealing with.

But also you can't say all women are not attracted to catcalling. I know a couple of women who love it and will even shout back some underhanded quips and have good fun with it. I also know others who just ignore it and they are completely fine. Saying "Women in general" is a false statement and you're placing your personal views on people who may not agree with you at all. In fact it's more fair to say that women in general would probably disagree with you in a great deal on many subjects, hence the great difference in numbers of feminist and non-feminist females (And no I'm not accusing you of being feminist, just making a point).

You're right of course, that both genders do need to learn more about one another and I'm really big on gender equality. However true equality will never exist. And not just between men and women, but people in general. Someone will always be on top. In a hundred years it could be women, it could be the Chinese, it could be homosexuals calling all the shots, but regardless someone will always have more power than someone else.

User avatar #138 to #130 - bigmanfifty (06/30/2013) [-]
Feminism exists because the subordination of women is built into the very fabric of our society.

Institutional sexism didn't end when women got the vote, in the working world, the glass ceiling is still real.
User avatar #170 to #138 - monkee (06/30/2013) [-]

User avatar #215 to #138 - zzforrest (06/30/2013) [-]
except humanism implies that it is trying to build a higher standard for all. Feminism would be unnecessary because women would get a higher standard of living. Men would too, but comparatively the gap would begin to be smaller in comparison to how large it was before.

Okay here is something i would like to clear once an for all:
1. Woman are not physically stronger than a man, no matter how strongly you want it to be true its not true.
2. Intellectually, we are proven time and again to be more emotional, that doesn't necessarily mean we are stupid, sometimes being emotional has its perks, e.g. we are better at handling relationships and making better decisions when it comes to our families and loved ones. Sometimes that backfires but what in the world doesn't ?
Being emotional doesn't mean we are irrational it just means we get more involved in the decision making process and sometimes it could be harmful but being not at all involved could be harmful too.
.
#172 to #171 - John Cena (06/30/2013) [-]
3. Women can be as conniving as any man. They cheat, lie, molest, takes advantage of people as much as any man. They just get away with it because they are supposedly the 'weaker' gender but one thing they don't get away with is being promiscuous (judged by society and **** ) and in that matter men usually get away. so you see there are two sides to this story, one in which you can get away being a cunt and in the other men gets away being assholes.
So you see, what i am trying to say is men and women are different you can't compare apples with oranges that doesn't mean apples are superior to oranges or oranges are superior to apples. It just means to adjust in a society because the perks you think you will gain by doing this, you might lose a lot in the process as well
