Xbox's entire reveal conference was them ranting almost nonstop about how it does stuff with your tv, they rolled almost every bad rumor out there( DRM, always on Kinect, blocks used games, ect.) and made them worse. They only showed two games. One was COD, and the other some stupid ******** with Soccer. So everyone was mad.
Sony put out that advertisement, saying they'll use the tv for gaming.
It is funny because that is a "burn"

Xbox barely talked about games in the conference, and just brought in Call Of Duty to make people happy, because CoD is the only game people will talk about.

They mostly talked about TV, watching TV, how the Xbox will work with the TV etc.

In other words, it was ****.

But at least show something to make sure that the games are something to look forward to. They showed one exclusive game and a "promise" of 15 exclusives when it comes out. Need I not remind you that Sony announced Beyond Two Souls, Last Of Us, the list goes on.

They at LEAST had shown something to look forward to. All Xbox had show was, basically still shots of some uninteresting game, and Call Of Duty.

When Microsoft showed their Xbox One some week ago there was around 2 games they showed. about 5min I think and the rest was pretty much
"Now you can watch TV and talk to people with skype" For around the rest of the show, pretty much all the features had something to do with watching programs or talking to people. Really nothing about gaming. You expect a console to at least be able to show games but here it was just gone.

What he's saying is that by presenting non-gaming features, Microsoft is coming off as not focusing on a gaming experience anymore. And that's exactly what they conveyed in their reveal conference. They didn't show a gaming console; they showed an entertainment system. And as a gamer, that should be a concern.

Maybe I just don't care too much because I end up getting all the new systems anyways and I'll always have my gaming PC to rely on, but I still fail to see how branching out is a bad thing.
What could they do to ruin the Xbox One by adding these features? I agree that the whole used game fee could end up being a terrible, terrible, idiotic move, but that's not what most people are complaining about. They're complaining that the new system does other things. Do they think that this means worse or more casual games are going to release for the system? That's not Microsoft's move, that's up to the game developers.
#405 to #394 - CyborgNinja

(05/25/2013) [-]
My issue with it is that these "features" are worthless in the rest of the world. That, and as a gamer, it makes me feel like they're turning away the much-needed focus on games that they could have. I feel like it could have an impact on the quality of gaming we're going to have with the console, and I'm pretty sure the more rational haters of the Xbox One agree with me. And hey, if that creates more casual gaming on the console due to devs, it IS Microsoft's fault. They're marketing the system as a casual, living room device. NOT as a gaming console.

That's what the people complaining about the Xbox One mean. We want a GAMING console, NOT an entertainment system. For some reason, ya'll seem to fail at understanding that.

That MIGHT be a legitimate concern if it weren't for the fact that they have released nothing, but one press conference about the system. I guess the "wait and see" mentality just doesn't appeal to very many people before they go *******. You're being rational and presenting an argument. Not many people who agree with your sentiment can do that, form what I've seen.
I see your point, I do, I understand it, but it doesn't hold much weight considering E3 hasn't even passed yet. If they give off the same "casual entertainment system" feel at E3, the GAMING expo, then I would be forced to agree with you completely.

Yeah, I know, I know. Hell, I've gone and told a couple people that are going berserk over it that E3 will be the event to wait for. What I'm trying to get at is that first impressions are everything. Although (and I hope to god this is what they were trying to do) they seem to have gotten the entertainment stuff out of the way at the reveal, it was a terrible first impression for the core of Microsoft's consumers.

...its just that the core Microsoft consumers like to go balls-off-the-wall instead of being rational...

I guess I never really thought about the fact that this technically is a "first impression." I formed my opinion of it based on how the 360 built upon the original, but I see how that might be assuming a bit much.
On a side note, I never cared for the Kinect because the games mostly seemed rather boring, but with the new system isn't there at least a slightly better possibility that someone will come along and make a good, interesting game that implements the motion sensing? I mean, sword fighting, come on.

I'm actually looking forward to what they can do with the new kinect. I think they tried making the wrong "hardcore" games, and the kinect being a pain in the ass to program for probably didn't help.

They have only had one conference so far. I don't know why you guys expect the first one to be about game play, that would make no sense at all. Of course they are going to focus on the new features, that doesn't mean they didn't make it a gaming console. I would much rather hear them go on about awesome new features them to simply say,
"Yeah it plays games."

Honestly, though the XBox One did **** up, the PS4 still leaves something to be desired. I mean, The jump to a new console should illustrate SOMETHING new, something that is a garunteed improvement. Like, the PS2 to PS3 generation jump was a huge jump for graphics, and during this generation of gaming came great new features to the gaming experience. PS4 just... it incorparates the same touch screen system as the playstation vita (which wasn't really a hit to begin with) onto the controller, has a dangerously long over due new interface system (ditching that unappealing XrossMediaBar ****), already has a few cool games set to come out, and is trying to popularize the PSMove by adding more Kinect-like features... it doesn't really change much else.

Wii U did enhance the graphics from the Wii, but that's because nintendo was lagging way the **** behind the other consoles and is barely up to date now. PC gaming I'm leaving aside; they have much more flexibility and openness, no need for everyone to brag about the "PC master race" every chance they get. All consoles are pretty much computers with limits on what types of games they can play, while PC just has less limits.

XBOX one just did stupid ****, PS4 doesn't look all that appealing, Wii U looks just like the Wii (something appealing at first that you get, play for a while, then don't bother with for years). True, no new technological innovation has happened yet, but I'm just saying that there's SO much more they could do in new consoles. PS4 could incorporate a party system, XBox could focus on the games, Nintendo could stop focusing on making new gadgets and more on SIMPLE gameplay....

TL;DR the new generation of consoles don't look all that good.

When I got a xbox 360, I didn't complain about the cost for the xbox-live, because I was no longer playing alone...

Because 1. Those extra features add more money to the cost of the console, when if they were going to drive the price up, it should be for a good reason like better hardware. 2. They spent too much time not focusing on gaming. Look: with the 360, they focused solely on gaming at the beginning of the consoles life and added media features later on. With the Xbox One, they are doing things the opposite way, the wrong way, meaning that if this is going to be a hardcore gaming machine, its certainly not going to be at the beginning of its life.
