Xbox's entire reveal conference was them ranting almost nonstop about how it does stuff with your tv, they rolled almost every bad rumor out there( DRM, always on Kinect, blocks used games, ect.) and made them worse. They only showed two games. One was COD, and the other some stupid ******** with Soccer. So everyone was mad.
Sony put out that advertisement, saying they'll use the tv for gaming.
It is funny because that is a "burn"

First impressions count, I WOULD have about just showing off the new features but the fact that they played the CoD card at the end just shows what kind of market they're going for.

However I think the biggest problem is that they're conference was only one hour whereas Sony's was 2 hours. Sony went through Hardware for half an hour and then the hour and a half was about games. Pretty sure they implied they will be revealing many games at e3, and 1st impressions do count so they directed the presentation towards impressing the most profitable sections of there consumers (cod , sports games) while showing some of the new content with the system. Also for a majority of people buying the console wont care about what the hardware is so they spent a few minutes on it and moved on. Seems like a smart strategy to me, also all the "hardcore gamer stuff" will probably be released at e3.

I don't think most people get that Microsoft is trying to go after consumers other than regular gamers. It would make little sense to devote the majority of your promotion time and money towards a group of people who, for the most part, buy your product(s) anyway.

I think the telltale sign will be what they do at E3. If they're showing what the system can do gaming-wise that's a good sign. If they're mostly pushing other features at E3, THEN I'd worry.

Xbox barely talked about games in the conference, and just brought in Call Of Duty to make people happy, because CoD is the only game people will talk about.

They mostly talked about TV, watching TV, how the Xbox will work with the TV etc.

In other words, it was ****.

But at least show something to make sure that the games are something to look forward to. They showed one exclusive game and a "promise" of 15 exclusives when it comes out. Need I not remind you that Sony announced Beyond Two Souls, Last Of Us, the list goes on.

They at LEAST had shown something to look forward to. All Xbox had show was, basically still shots of some uninteresting game, and Call Of Duty.

When Microsoft showed their Xbox One some week ago there was around 2 games they showed. about 5min I think and the rest was pretty much
"Now you can watch TV and talk to people with skype" For around the rest of the show, pretty much all the features had something to do with watching programs or talking to people. Really nothing about gaming. You expect a console to at least be able to show games but here it was just gone.

What he's saying is that by presenting non-gaming features, Microsoft is coming off as not focusing on a gaming experience anymore. And that's exactly what they conveyed in their reveal conference. They didn't show a gaming console; they showed an entertainment system. And as a gamer, that should be a concern.

Maybe I just don't care too much because I end up getting all the new systems anyways and I'll always have my gaming PC to rely on, but I still fail to see how branching out is a bad thing.
What could they do to ruin the Xbox One by adding these features? I agree that the whole used game fee could end up being a terrible, terrible, idiotic move, but that's not what most people are complaining about. They're complaining that the new system does other things. Do they think that this means worse or more casual games are going to release for the system? That's not Microsoft's move, that's up to the game developers.

My issue with it is that these "features" are worthless in the rest of the world. That, and as a gamer, it makes me feel like they're turning away the much-needed focus on games that they could have. I feel like it could have an impact on the quality of gaming we're going to have with the console, and I'm pretty sure the more rational haters of the Xbox One agree with me. And hey, if that creates more casual gaming on the console due to devs, it IS Microsoft's fault. They're marketing the system as a casual, living room device. NOT as a gaming console.

That's what the people complaining about the Xbox One mean. We want a GAMING console, NOT an entertainment system. For some reason, ya'll seem to fail at understanding that.

That MIGHT be a legitimate concern if it weren't for the fact that they have released nothing, but one press conference about the system. I guess the "wait and see" mentality just doesn't appeal to very many people before they go *******. You're being rational and presenting an argument. Not many people who agree with your sentiment can do that, form what I've seen.
I see your point, I do, I understand it, but it doesn't hold much weight considering E3 hasn't even passed yet. If they give off the same "casual entertainment system" feel at E3, the GAMING expo, then I would be forced to agree with you completely.

Yeah, I know, I know. Hell, I've gone and told a couple people that are going berserk over it that E3 will be the event to wait for. What I'm trying to get at is that first impressions are everything. Although (and I hope to god this is what they were trying to do) they seem to have gotten the entertainment stuff out of the way at the reveal, it was a terrible first impression for the core of Microsoft's consumers.

...its just that the core Microsoft consumers like to go balls-off-the-wall instead of being rational...

I guess I never really thought about the fact that this technically is a "first impression." I formed my opinion of it based on how the 360 built upon the original, but I see how that might be assuming a bit much.
On a side note, I never cared for the Kinect because the games mostly seemed rather boring, but with the new system isn't there at least a slightly better possibility that someone will come along and make a good, interesting game that implements the motion sensing? I mean, sword fighting, come on.

I'm actually looking forward to what they can do with the new kinect. I think they tried making the wrong "hardcore" games, and the kinect being a pain in the ass to program for probably didn't help.

Because 1. Those extra features add more money to the cost of the console, when if they were going to drive the price up, it should be for a good reason like better hardware. 2. They spent too much time not focusing on gaming. Look: with the 360, they focused solely on gaming at the beginning of the consoles life and added media features later on. With the Xbox One, they are doing things the opposite way, the wrong way, meaning that if this is going to be a hardcore gaming machine, its certainly not going to be at the beginning of its life.

That shows that MS is looking to hit a different target audience FIRST. The family, and younger casual gamers. Now, are they going to be able to hit that audience at E3? No. At E3, they will be able to get to the true gamers, and that is when they will show off what WE want.
They want to make a console that works all round. Something that is a true next gen game console, but also something that will integrate in the non-gamer lives. The internet is ever expanding.
I wouldn't use half those feature. I'd actually prefer it if they released a second, hardcore gaming console. But you have to see where they are coming from. If only focusing on the hard core gaming, they are competing against Sony, where the gamers have two choices. Then if only focusing on the average consumer side, they will be facing the wii U and such. This way, they get everything with one console. It is a brilliant market strategy, but until E3, everyone is going to be PS4>XboxOne.

Good things come to those who wait.

I still believe that after E3 the majority verdict will still be the PS4. The way I see it is there isn't competition anymore, not to say either side has won though. I think the majority of real gamers and the community I enjoy will go with the PS4, and the people that just want they're system for that raw, splosion-movie minded entertainment, will go to XBOX.

Really it's a good thing, because it will separate the people who hate sportymcCoDplayers from the sportymcCoDplayers. I'm not calling everyone who gets an XBOX ONE one of them, but any real gamers who get the XBOX one, I won't judge and hate, I'll feel bad for, because they are forced into that community for the few games they like.

The only problem with the PS4 is it doesn't have any games the I (Notice I said I) am excited about.

Infamous Second Son? New Killzone? plus all the 3rd party stuff. It's still too early to say ps4 has no gaems, E3 hasn't even happened yet.

Well then what DO you like? Because the only reason to buy an Xbox is for Halo, Gears, and Fable, so if those don't sound appealing to you, I don't see why you wouldn't buy a PS4.

I agree that we should wait until E3, but I completely disagree with anyone saying that the reason for any console is a set list of the big name series. Unless, of course, you mean "the only reason to have one at release of the console"

So, I've been thumbed down because why? I guess people don't like the fact that I don't think a console should be for a small list of big name series?
Sorry for liking video games, guys.

I have played/owned both the Xbox360 and the PS3, I have considered their next generations, and they're both great consoles. End of discussion.
