Well, if the application of the hook, or whatever is on top of the car is easy its brilliant, but i bet it would be a awful experience to fit them together

It's funny, hitler had almost nothing to do with it. He told Ferry Porsche to design and create "The Peoples Car" or Volkswagen in german, and this is what he came up with. The VW Type 1, better known as the beetle. And the trailer wasn't made by VW anyway.

The car in this GIF was ordered into existance by Adolf Hitler, built by Porsche (I believe) and made Volkswagen.

So he's thanking Hitler for Volkswagen, which is just one of the many actually good things Hitler did.

why is this not a more common method of towing!? it would significantly reduce damage done to both trailer and vehicle due to jack-knifing!

But those stupid people are well aware that an efficient use of a "big ass truck's" torque and gear ratios often yield better gas mileage and drivetrain longevity. What Sirbrentcoe was saying was the configuration of the 5th wheel hitch. He had a good point.

there is a reason they didnt catch on if the pivot point was inches of you could lock in position and indeed spin a bering but vw trannys are one of the most rugged ever created took my 5 years of off roading to kill mine and it was only b/c my clutch cable snapped and killed it

VW trans's are incredibly durable, especially if there is a bus trans swapped in. Which is as easy as unbolting the stock type 1 trans and bolting in a type2 bus trans. I love old VWs
