I say this knowing that it will probably be thumbed down, but please just research it for yourself as you hit the red thumb....Marijuana is actually helpful to the brain. It forms a protective coating around brain cells, and THC in some forms has even shown to promote growth of brain cells. I realize that everyone has met the "moronic stoner" type, but that isn't a reflection on all marijuana smokers, those of us who have learned to smoke in moderation realize how amazing it is. I understand that you may have mixed feelings about it, but until you try it you shouldn't talk down about it....from my experience with Marijuana, it is amazing to alleviate stress. In fact, I can go from having a dreadful day to smiling and watching documentaries on string theory.

Yeah, marijuana isn't bad for you, but chances are what you smoke isn't the good kind. Drug dealers **** with it to sell it for maximum profit. You know that K2 scare? That's marijuana. Real marijuana hardly exists anymore.

I must be one of the few cannabis users who actually know that it's not good for you.
****, half the stuff we do isn't good for us, the food we eat, the lifestyles we live.
I think Bill Hicks summed it up beautifully.

"Here is my final point...About drugs, about alcohol, about pornography...What business is it of yours what I do, read, buy, see, or take into my body as long as I do not harm another human being on this planet? And for those who are having a little moral dilemma in your head about how to answer that question, I'll answer it for you. NONE of your ******* business. Take that to the bank, cash it, and go ******* on a vacation out of my life."

thing is though, if one person in the world is doing something to endanger his health, not affecting other people, that's one thing.
but other people will see him do that thing he's doing, and be interested in it, and eventually commit to it. influencing people to try health-hazardous actions, in a way, would be harming other people, because it would be increasing the amount of people that are doing it. it is ultimately their decision, yes, but they are still being influenced to do it, through propaganda, deceit, misinformation, or opinions.

Weed is banned mostly because a person, when high, barely acknowledges his actions. It's not banned because it's bad for you, it's banned because it makes you act like a retard, which can be bad for others too. The same reason was for banning alcohol, but hey, depriving people of alcohol made it worse, so now we use, but with tons of restrictions.

Well, smoking it isnt exactly healthy for you, but researchers found you were less likely to get cancer if you smoked weed or if you smoked tobacco with weed rather then just tobacco by itself. So I guess you can say its "less unhealthy".

but... drugs and alcohol directly affect others around you if you take them. Innocent people are killed all the time by drunk drivers. One of my friends was smoking pot and decided to drive. She was in the car with 3 other people when she ran a stop light and their car was crushed by a truck. All of them were killed instantly. ******** it doesn't affect others.

thats like saying, i can shoot bullets to the sky as long as i dont harm anyone.

you arent directly shooting others, but you are creating chances for others to get hurt.
just like drunk ppl dont think twice before driving they are too intoxicated to care/notice

As long as there is no "reasonable chance" of harm occurring then it should not be a problem. Now the drunk driver you have suggested, it is reasonable to believe that his actions will, directly cause physical harm to somebody, (hitting them) or indirect financial harm, (damaging property).
Indirect harm is recoverable, such as paying the person to cover any damage caused to their property.
Direct harm is not recoverable, so therefore the physical harm is the problem.
Now as I have stated "as long as I do not harm another human being" the key phrase here is as long as the creation of the dangerous situation such as getting into the car would invalidate that part of the statement, there making the person liable for all damage caused.

As for the bullets, if reasonable harm is not forseeable then the duty of care assumed by the taking of illegal substances / legal substances etc is invalidated. You owe no duty of care to a person if the harm caused is unforseeable in the circumstances (such as a bullet falling and hitting somebody)

Well inhaling the crude combustion products of burning plant material is going to be bad for you no matter what it is. That's a given.
But things like junk food are bad no matter how little you eat.
Trans fats are bad regardless of quantity.

Cannabis is like everything else, as long as it's in moderation it's not going to affect you in a negative way. And you're more likely to get respiratory conditions from breathing in city air than cannabis smoke. Pollution is a **** ton worse for your health than cannabis smoke.
However, as long as it's not hurting anyone else, no one should have a say in a persons use.

My major concern isn't about my health though, it also affects me academically and the way society thinks of me. Still, we live in a hypocritical world where it's legal to get drunk yet we get fined for getting high.

Real stoners smoke and keep to themselves. It's ******* kids that think it's cool to smoke up that ruin our image. I contribute to society, I work 20 hours a week and attend uni twice a week, which leaves me with 2 free days. And on these 2 free days (or occasionally at uni) I may decide to smoke weed. Smoking is certainly not cool, in fact it is often uncool. You tend to want to avoid people when you're high, but I like the way it helps me question life and the very nature of existence. And it helps me look at life in a different way. I don't know why I wrote this, but I did, and you just read it, so take from it what you will. And have a genuinely good day (or evening)!

tl;dr - weed is good, hipster stoners who think smoking is cool are bad

I've got a fair variety of pet insects and other inverts but wasps are really tricky to keep in captivity. I tried Emerald Cockroach wasps once, they were stunning to look at. They are more manageable to keep in captivity and only need American cockroaches to breed. Would imagine it would be pretty difficult to get some several year old tarantula's spare every time you tarantula hawks needed one.

Before the Spaniards colonized South America, coca leaves were commonly chewed to alleviate aches, pains, and everything in between. Essentially the same way we would use a tylenol or a black family would use robitussin.

There are no long term bad effects, but it has undesirable effects and depending on you, it could be really bad. I don't see how it's good, it's only good use really is to relieve stress, and people say it's not that bad but ever care to think that somewhere no matter who you buy from; the money goes to really bad people?

That's *********, we don't all live along the border and smoke Mexican brickweed. Only bros from frats do that because most of the time they're too ignorant to know where to get good weed.

No most potheads either a)grow their own or b)buy from a friend that grows their own.

At least most of the potheads that I know. It's just inefficient to do it any other way.

But you can't justify that it's not bad because there are sensible people that don't contribute to that sort of thing? That's like justifying murder that it's good because some people do it to protect others, while it's good that people do it for that reason or people do it sensibly there are many that don't so how exactly is it as a whole good?

So you are implying that only the extremes can smoke marijuana, the dumb and the extremely intelligent?

his career wont be affected by it because he is a valuable asset to whoever he works for. seriously whos gonna kick him out? it'd be like a star player out of a team.

im an average guy and if I tried doing pot id lose my job. and frankly I know better than to waste what little money I have on drugs

then the dumb people tend to be the ones who glorify it as a miracle drug that does nothing but completely cure cancer (it doesn't) and it has no long term affects in the slightlest (it does) these are the people I mainly detest.

You're like a sith, you are thinking in extremes. I have met more people who smoked weed on a monthly basis and were perfectly capable of functioning normally, heck, most of them were really smart and excelled at what they were doing, than people who lost their jobs or got into trouble for it. I'm not claiming I know what the situation is like where you are, but I know it's nothing like that here.
Your boss wouldn't notice if you didn't tell him (and of course if you weren't dumb and abused the **** out of it). It's like every nice thing in the world, if it's abused too much bad things happen. You smoke too much, lung cancer. Too much candy, you get fat. Too much alcohol, you get liver cancer.

And hey, every positive experience in life is worth doing, IMO.

Every person reacts differently to it. Another reason why it's kept illegal in most places.
