Actually it's more like smothering the mother in her period. The egg is menstruation. Humans go through the same thing. However, the hens are all jacked up on hormones so they lay egg every day.

The Chinese have a dish called "mother and daughter", which is just chicken and eggs. The name takes away my motivation to eat it though.

if the egg isn't fertilised, then it isn't a baby

Fun Fact Time.
Just because it's an edible egg doesn't mean it isn't fertilized. Look for a tiny red dot in your eggs from now on because that is the embryo. They don't taste any different from normal eggs, but if it makes you feel better, just remove the embryo if you see it.

Almost all eggs that are sold are unfertilized. Cage-free eggs have a chance of being fertilized and there will actually be a partially formed dead chick in the egg. Not a little red dot.

You need some education, the egg is not fertilised so it's actually the Chickens period.

Actually, there are rare times where actual chicken embryos in the shell (fertalised egg) ends up being sold to the consumer...

I just thought that I'd put that out there, although you'd have to be pretty insane to use that sort of egg for cooking.

Okay, my thoughts are getting weird, maybe it's time to get off of FJ for a while.
