The reason bad food taste good is because our bodies are adapted to the ways humans have been living for 90% of their time on earth: the hunter gatherer lifestyle. Calories were hard to find back then and when you found them they were more useful fats like omega-3 or DHA (good fro brain development). It was therefore an evolutionary advantage to make food with high concentrated calories to taste good. Now a days we're overflowing with calories but they are the wrong type of fat: omega-6. We literally get fat and stupid. We haven't had enough time to evolve to our current conditions and now we have a obesity/stupidity problem.

Not really the genes fault.

Also coffee makes me talkative. The end.

During the ages when we were still nomads food that included sugar or sweets were hard to find and since our body needs a small amount of it to survive. It tastes better because then we can eat more before we get tired of it and wander to another place.

User avatar #45 - richardastley (02/14/2013) [-]
Kind of funny how height works. Any guy who's short sees a huge difference in an inch. So like in Canada, the average height for a guy is around 5'8" (I come from a town with a lot of Dutch people, so it might be higher here). I'm 5'6.5", and when I stand beside a guy who's 5'5", I feel way better about my height. When I'm standing beside any guy who's 5'8", I feel like a midget.
User avatar #41 - charagrin (02/14/2013) [-]
Tall, handsome, and smart? Here's some extreme shyness to go along with that. Story of my life.
User avatar #44 to #41 - charagrin (02/14/2013) [-]
I think the worst part of it IS the shyness itself. Knowing you are good looking and smart enough to succeed if you just put yourself out there, but unable to due to a crippling fear of strangers....

Heres my story,

I was on anti depressants as a combination for depression and anxiety, but it didnt really help significantly, mainly because whenever i was social i was on the pills and whenever i was social we were at a bar, medication and alchohol = embaressing FB photos the next day, which made me less and less inclined to go out.

So one day i thought **** IT, i decided to move to china (been travelling) i got a TEFL so i can teach english took me a month to get and cost 200$. Right now im sat on my laptop in china, and the benefits are immense.

1) teaching english, i had to get a job to survive so i cant quit, so no excuse to fade to the back which is always tempting, im practically on show 4 hours a day and i realised that embaressing yourself is not a big deal, 3rd day in i fell over and the kids laughed but i just composed myself and carried on, public speaking? used to be my nightmare now its my bitch

2) living on your own, now you have to actually wash your own clothes and cook your own food and if you dont? no-one will like you, so you do it and begin to structure your life

3) making friends, not the best place to make friends as the few i manage to make left after a few months, but i need to work on that and my motivation is that i dont want my schoolfriends or family coming over to visit and me and i have no-one to introduce them too. its not like i have a dorm or class where you can easily make friends because you HAVE to spend time together, i talk to people on subway and in bars, which is still difficult and feels contrived but im getting there

4) start a blog, i have not done this yet but if my family are reading about what ive done and my last three weeks involved a whole lot of drinking alone and masturbation i'd feel ashamed and force myself out, take up a hobby and learn with others

I have basically forced myself out of the rut i was in and in a pretty dramatic way,

Going to start a blog, eh? Want to send me a link when you do? I love reading about people's experiences abroad, and your story sounds interesting.

I can't vouch for the efficacy of this, I haven't tried it myself. But there's a reason I could see it working:
Both narcissists and people with low self esteem are unduly focused on themselves. I think an exercise like this might help to see yourself more as an object, just like how people see others. When you're better at ease with yourself, it should be less difficult to be at ease with other people.
This too might help - http://www.lifehack.org/articles/communication/how-to-build-a-social-circle.html

unhealthy food was DESIGNED to taste good....if all 'unhealthy' foods didnt exist then the food that would taste good would be good for you :P

when it comes to things like taste there is always a standard to compare too, as far as taste goes i believe water is the standard hence why it seemingly tastes like nothing (im talking purified water, not the crap from the tap)
#33 - lunarlizzy (02/14/2013) [-]
The unhealthy foods thing is evolutionary :) A crave for salt and fat were necessary when they were difficult to come by. Now it's just adaptive mismatch.

people probably already knew that, i'll go sit in a corner
