We could have Pokemon look like that right now. This is how ' ******* games will look in 10 years. Nintendo just sucks,
User avatar #204 to #191 - sketchE (02/04/2013) [-]
nintendo has never focused on graphics. theyve always been about the games. they kind of snubbed hardcore gamers with the wii but it still had some great games on it like brawl. the WII U although dorky shows they care about the gamers and are trying to make up for lost time.
User avatar #190 - xxramshockeyxx (02/04/2013) [-]
i think we will have more than unreal engine 3 by 2020..
User avatar #189 - thatkiddonovan (02/04/2013) [-]
The sad thing is that if Nintendo weren't so reliant on their same old formulas, they would make progress and have games that look like this and games that would generate interest.

Is the Wii U cool? Kinda.
Does it have promising titles? Kinda.
Is it still the same old Nintendo? Pretty much

I feel like gaming is evolving more and more while good 'ol Nintendo sticks to the same formulas for Mario, Zelda, Metroid, and Pokemon.
User avatar #208 to #189 - sketchE (02/04/2013) [-]
whats the problem with that? clearly theyre doing something right since the franchises listed are the highest selling of all time. nintendo knows what makes a good game and many of those you will get nailed to the cross for insulting. dont like cod? general population doesnt care. dont like battlefield? general population doesnt care. dont like dragon age? no one cares. dont like mario? flamewar commence. if it aint broke dont fix it right

In ten years? we can make games that look like that now...

I don't think we will use Unreal Engine 3 in 10 years...

What ever happened to that Funnyjunk style Pokemon that someone was making a while back, I remember a lot of updates on them building the game get to front page but then it just stopped and i haven't heard of it since.
User avatar #164 - dapape (02/04/2013) [-]
If it takes till im 31 for pokemon to look like that I might as well just end my life now
User avatar #167 to #164 - Hreidmar (02/04/2013) [-]
You're never too old to play games, mate. So long as you don't let them get in the way of your responsibilities, but that should be the case at every age.

User avatar #169 to #167 - dapape (02/04/2013) [-]
I was actually trying to reference the fact that the content would probably look like **** in ten years
User avatar #171 to #169 - Hreidmar (02/04/2013) [-]
Ah, I see. Well that's a bit optimistic of you... Technology in terms of graphics can't improve forever. We're probably already close to the best we can get in terms of video cards and displays, etc. We can do things that are technically better but we simply won't notice the difference past a certain point. So probably development in terms of graphics will slow down noticeably soon.
#177 to #171 - admiralaverage (02/04/2013) [-]
I disagree, there's an incredible amount of detail that games miss out on that could make games look better, and graphics cards and displays can always get better
User avatar #179 to #177 - Hreidmar (02/04/2013) [-]
They can get better, but at some point, we stop noticing the difference. Right now, for example, I play Borderlands 2. I have a very decent machine, so I can run 16x rendering (I think that's the term... right?) But when I set it to 8x rendering there's almost no difference whatsoever on screen. Maybe one object in the distance is just a tiny bit blurrier than before.
#182 to #179 - admiralaverage (02/04/2013) [-]
anisotropic filtering I think you mean.
the thing about borderlands is it's an art style, you don't need to make art have higher graphics than that. Physx on that game can need a reasonable computer to run.
Shadow effects and lighting in games are getting better all the time, displays that give better refresh rates, higher contrast among other things.
User avatar #185 to #182 - Hreidmar (02/04/2013) [-]
I suppose so. I'll admit I'm very shaky on the technicalities of computers, it's just not my area. Just from personal experience in terms of games and videos, I don't see as much difference in the higher end of the performance scale. I don't see much difference between videos rendered at 1020P and 780P, for example. And from the little I've read on the subject, that's a function of the human eye. At some point, there are just too many details for us to process.
#188 to #185 - admiralaverage (02/04/2013) [-]
I guess the way I'd look at is, if I look out of my window and say look at the park, never in a game have I seen anything that comes close to the depth and detail that you can see outside.
Trees often look flat in games or the leaves look like little black dots of outlines because they screen doesn't have enough pixels to show them properly.
User avatar #174 to #171 - dapape (02/04/2013) [-]
We'll see... I just remember playing Ocarina of Time, seeing those graphics for the first time and being like "Dayyum, this is as good as it gets."
User avatar #175 to #174 - Hreidmar (02/04/2013) [-]
That's what I felt like playing Far Cry. (The original Far Cry, which by the way still is an amazing game.)
User avatar #176 to #175 - dapape (02/04/2013) [-]
Ohohoho... Maybe in terms of looking real nice, but... I wont say anything else... :)
User avatar #178 to #176 - Hreidmar (02/04/2013) [-]
To each their own opinions, hah. I strongly dislike games that others think are fantastic, and occasionally like games which somehow completely fall by the wayside.
