People now-a-days don't have religious tolerance anymore. Even as a Christian myself I don't go around and say "You're going to hell if you're not a Christan", I shun those people.

I will treat everyone the same weather they are Christian, Catholic, Buddhist, Muslim, Jewish, Atheist.... Hell even if they believe in Satanism, as a human being I will treat everyone the same REGARDLESS of religion, it doesn't matter what they believe in to me as long as they don't try and shove their beliefs down my throat, I'm ok with whatever people beliefs are and I will stay like that for as long as I live.
#594 - grizzlydiplomat (02/01/2013) [-]
In all honesty, as a Christian, if you ever told me you were an Atheist or any other belief, I'd be more than happy to befriend you, FULLY DISREGARDING BELIEFS BECAUSE THAT'S YOUR BUSINESS AND NOT MINE, and treat you to some pizza.

you call ******** ? Well sir, would you rather I be an arse and be hateful of other beliefs except mine?

I'm a Christian... But I have never disrespected any other religion including Atheism, but I have had my religion bashed countless times. I don't understand why Atheists so often act as if every Christian is a complete tool. Have you ever had your Atheist beliefs bashed on in person? How many times? I just think its dumb to treat people differently because of religion/race/sexual preference. I just really wish the world was past all this **** by now, seriously its just dumb and ignorant.
User avatar #639 to #586 - wallacewells (02/01/2013) [-]
I agree with everything you've said except for your recognition of Atheism as a belief, I don't like when people assign things to it that it is not, just as I'm sure you can't stand some of the things people associate Christianity with.
User avatar #626 to #586 - theguywithnopants (02/01/2013) [-]
countless times have my views been bashed, dismissed and thought stupid, even when i backed them with evidence. I never pulled up religious ideals in public, and personally it is a topic that must be figured out and dismissed so we can get all ethical and religious based ideas out of our society. Sorry that we walk the same path but different ideas, but i was not always an atheist, i was christian, then one day i asked why non-stop until it ******* , god doesn't have all the answers, no one does, but there is one thing that is finding out the answers, and fast. science.

TL:DNR I agree with you and it sucks having opinions, then i ranted about how i became an atheist. Go science
#623 to #586 - devout feminist (02/01/2013) [-]
I'm an Atheist and I don't treat those with beliefs as a tool. Please choose your words wisely because you seem ignorant. You may have encounter ******* Atheists as I have encounter ******* Christians but I DO NOT take those experience and say every Christian is that way it is very ignorant and uncalled for.
User avatar #596 to #586 - contradiction (02/01/2013) [-]
because not all christians are like you, others force their religion down people throat, then atheists get on the defensive and act as if every christian is like that. sort of like being labeled with stereotypes.
User avatar #592 to #586 - goodguygary ONLINE (02/01/2013) [-]
some of those church people who go to high schools/colleges have told me many a time i'm a "bad person and i am going to hell" unless i became religious. i don't hate religious people though, my grandfather was christian but couldn't care less about your beliefs or lack thereof.
#585 - devout feminist (02/01/2013) [-]
Atheism really is only on the "rise" outside of North America. You have a lot of teens in the US using it as an excuse to rebel against their parents. It has nothing to do with what science has found or hasn't found for them. It is all about the association of god with their parents being their sole reason to not believe. Now, I have seen plenty of atheist whom think that way because of what science has found.

Outside of the US it isn't growing anywhere near as quickly as Islam or Buddhism. In fact, it isn't that there are more now than there were 30 years ago, it's the fact that they are far more outspoken now than they were before. I think Islam or Christianity will still be the domination ideologies 50 years down the road unless some massive development occurs before then.

Also: Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot and more will come. Atheism wasn't necessarily the reason behind the persecution of religion but it was the root of it. Secular governments would do the same thing that religious ones would simply because it is human nature to harbor feelings like that against those whom think differently.

Actually, Atheism is on the rise in Western Europe as well.

well if stalin and mao were any indication, atheists will stamp out christianity and put to death all those found practicing it.

so no, atheists have always treated christians like **** and will continue to do so.

#575 to #571 - devout feminist (02/01/2013) [-]
I see where you're coming from but not really.

To say that is to place all Christians into one stereotype. It makes the assumption that all Christians treat people badly.

User avatar #581 to #575 - thedynamicman (02/01/2013) [-]
Fine.... That's like 'certain Christians' beating the **** out of 'certain atheists' and hoping they don't retaliate. happy now?

Atheism is a system of beliefs just like Christianity or Islam, it may not be a religion but it is a system of beliefs with a following. It is slowly but surely becoming as corrupt as other religions and will soon treat everyone else just the same. Religion has been the source of wars and death since anyone can remember; Atheists try to act like they are the solution to this problem, but in reality they are on the track to become the exact same monster every religious institution has morphed into in the past. Most athiests i meet are self centered and are out to prove to everyone that god doesnt exist except for being accepting of others beliefs. #Just Saiyan

look at almost any study about religion vs. crime and you will see that the more secular a country is the lower its crime rate is (rape, ****** , sexual assault, etc.)
#583 to #572 - magicana (02/01/2013) [-]
Implying secular countries aren't made up of western nations which are more wealthy and less likely to commit crime.

Implying secular states as a whole haven't been responsible for 10s of millions of deaths (Mao, Stalin).

It is a religion. Even absence of religion is itself a religious and thus a religion. Nothing wrong with it one way or the other. it is like a political stance. Whether you care for one party, the other party, or no party, your caring or not caring is itself a belief.
#570 to #555 - mitchblahman (02/01/2013) [-]
Saying the absence of religion is itself a religion has got to be one of the stupidest things I've ever heard. Do even a minuscule amount of research and you will see it is a world view, religion is always related to spirituality in one way or another. Atheism sticks specifically to what we can, with very little doubt, conclude about the universe. It's also not a political stance. Being a Christian or Muslim may affect how a politician governs, but that doesn't make it what they stand by for every single thing just like being an Atheist doesn't govern every single action. Put some thought into what you are going to say before you say it.
User avatar #574 to #570 - charagrin (02/01/2013) [-]
Someones butthurt. Atheism and nihilism ARE religious views. By saying you do not believe in a deity you are saying you believe that deities do not exist. Thus it IS a religious view. Doesn't matter whether you like it or not.
#577 to #574 - mitchblahman (02/01/2013) [-]
Go and look up what religion means you tard. When you say you don't believe in deities you are exerting a view on religion, but a religious view is one where you specifically believe in a connection between physicality and spirituality.
As for saying I'm butthurt, that is one of the most pathetic copouts a person can use, try better.
User avatar #579 to #577 - charagrin (02/01/2013) [-]
Still whining I see. I have looked up the basics of most religions, as I am sure most people have. By expressing your belief in the existence of a deity, you are establishing your own religious view. Your religious belief is that there is no higher power, so you don't worry about. Simple logic.
#530 - thenacho (02/01/2013) [-]
I feel as though I get treated like **** for being an atheist, i guess it's just my communtiy. I would say i'm more agnostic than atheist however you want to classify it, but anyways i'm not obnoxious i treat other people like i do my best friend. But i was in class one day and my Earth Science teacher (oh god that seems likea while ago) was talking about creationism like it was scientific law (which was ******* me off), So i called him out on it and as soon as i said just the simple "If there is a god" everyone in the class turned and looked at me as if they were going to kill me like i was the devil or something. Granted I was living in Texas at the time but i've gotten that same reaction from people when I moved to New York, so eventually I just decided to not even mention it, even my wife doesn't know i'm atheist, agnostic, whatever the **** you wanna call it. So to tell me that Christians don't look down on an atheist is certainly untrue. Do all christians look down on atheists, i don't know because i've never met one.

My body is ready for red thumbs

I'm just telling you my experiences with admitting i'm an atheist. Those people feel i have no morals which is such a ******** argument. May there be people out there who are nice to atheists, sure there might be, but until i meet one my view on this matter will be biased.
