I work at an old persons home and I had an older gentleman begin to lecture me about how my generation is ****** up because of all the glorified violence in the media and video games. I responded with 'Video games? I don't have time for those. Im too busy watching john wayne movies and learning about the wars your generation glorified and only the 70 million lives that came with, but really, whos counting anyways?'

annndddd lets just say I dont work there anymore

Doing things like this is really just to distract the population of what the governments are ******* up. A week or so before the london riots the governments in the UK ****** up big time, shifting blame so we forget what they did and blame youth for all the problems of today. Video games are fine, there has been no study to actually 100% confirm they are bad for kids and definitely no proof that video games effect kids more than **** parents letting their kids grow up to be violent.

Interesting . . . I'm seeing lots of intelligent arguments on both sides of the fence. I'm actually taking time an reading all the comments because It's actually getting me to think. The internet (sites such as this and many others) over all have a very bright user base. How come when I go out into the real world I have to deal with all of this stupidity and politics aren't changing anywhere? Simple. Cause we are the future, no matter our ages. We are so bright and we can do so much . . . But we are sitting here on FJ instead of being productive.

Here's a reasonable thing to do: Require a certain age to buy rated M games! oh... wait...
User avatar #324 - askafj (01/26/2013) [-]
The only "wrong" thing about playing computer games / consol games is that you don't get exercise.

Why they want to ban it, is unknown. I mean, there has to be something they can gain from banning games.
User avatar #329 to #324 - thatguywhohasbacon (01/26/2013) [-]
Or their just ********* who want to feel like they've done something good even if they've achieved nothing productive.

If you guys are interested in scientific based discussion I recommend this article: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22875464
tl;dr: Video games don't affect youth negatively (nor really positively like visuospatial abilites etc.).

Thank you! How many parents go out and buy their kid a "M" rated video game!
User avatar #320 to #298 - askafj (01/26/2013) [-]
I think it's just as stupid as having a law about having helmets on, while riding a bike.
It's like parents can't control their 5 year old or something, so they have to make laws.

That's like saying you want to put regulations on another country and saying the country in question doesn't get to have a say in the matter. That's ******* retarded.

Hear me out here; I actually want them to put a label on games that says "Warning: May cause violent behavior". Why? Because you'd have to be a ******* idiot to believe it. You know who are ******* idiots? The parents buying their 11 year old Rated M games. This might actually help combat the massive influx of little kids in gaming.

Little kids are ruining the industry for the rest of us. Developers these days are selling out left and right because their they're realizing that their fans aren't nearly as profitable as middle schoolers with unlimited access to their parents wallets. More and more were seeing beloved franchises destroyed by dumbed down casual **** that panders to 7th graders with no motor skills. You think it's a coincidence that Call of Duty is the highest selling franchise of all time and is infested with squeakers. Nope. They were the first ones to go for the low hanging fruit of tween gaming, they hit the jackpot and now all the other developers are trying to do the same. The only way were going to keep gaming for gamers is to find a way to keep the little kids out.
#378 to #272 - tkfourtwoone ONLINE (01/26/2013) [-]
Same argument as in the pic.

Back then games were made by gamers, for gamers. Do you think that John Carmack and John Romero thought that teenagers would be so incredibly retarded to be inspired by DOOM?!
#292 to #272 - filipstumpy (01/26/2013) [-]
I see your point, and I actually think it's a good point. I just don't want this law to make it so that I can't buy my games. (I'm over the M rated line)

And the fact that video games in general are less about the good gameplay, story telling and atmosphere is also recognizable, because **** apparently sells better... I guess people in general just like **** in their face.
User avatar #281 to #272 - awesomenessdefined (01/26/2013) [-]
The industry was designed, built, and aimed for little kids. The only reason older people play them today is because they played them as kids.
#344 to #281 - grizzlydiplomat (01/26/2013) [-]
>implying the violence in games, gore, sexually explicit scenes, etc., are meant for kids and older people only play them because they played them as kids.
#470 to #344 - awesomenessdefined (01/26/2013) [-]
Yes, because the first video games that ever came out were gore sexuality and explicit scenes.
And I didn't imply that, I straight up said that. Older people only play video games because they played them as kids.
User avatar #299 to #281 - I Am Monkey (01/26/2013) [-]
When I was in 8th grade I played Metroid and Pokemon, not Rated M shooters calling everything that moves a " ******* faggot". It wasn't always like this. This started a few years ago when the Wii was dying down. All the kids jumped ship and bought an xbox. It had been trending toward that for a while, but it really got bad that Christmas with the migration of the Wii users and the launch of Modern Warfare 2.

The problem is that little kids don't want little kid games anymore, they want Rated M games. So the Rated M industry now has to market to little kids without directly saying so. So now we've got to share our half of the pool with the little kids and suffer for it.
User avatar #327 to #299 - awesomenessdefined (01/26/2013) [-]
Because M rated games didn't exist at the time. The only reason they exist now is because older gamers want them. And kids are kids, they'll buy what's popular, that's how they act. They call you a faggot because the first time they come online that's all they here, and they adapt.

Kids get M rated games now because they are a lot more fun than those boring mario party ******** games. You can't get mad at them, no one makes any good kids games anymore, and they have to do something. The world isn't suited to kid gamers.
User avatar #313 to #299 - ninjastarthrow (01/26/2013) [-]
I agree, I have a PS3 and not as many kids play on it but we do get our fair share from time to time. My mom used to buy my little brother these games until I showed her what happens in them and how to tell how bad they are. She stopped and he is forced to play Mario games on the Wii until he turns 17. He's so mad about it but I don't care. I also told her about him calling everything that moves a faggot and I told her why he started doing that. She looks at game ratings now before she gets them for him. Most parents wont do that, they just buy it so their kids don't bother them.

or something along the lines of "This is purely a work of fiction with little or no ties to History. Do not preform any of the acts you are about to virtually experience."
