Even though I agree it's stupid as ******* hell to blame games for any violent action, it's right that gamers have no credibility. Like if you when you argue about piracy on the internet, people who download movies have no credibility as they can't be objective.

I'm not saying anything should get banned or anything, just pointing out the fact that gamers have their opinion and its not objective.
User avatar #409 to #396 - thatguywhohasbacon (01/26/2013) [-]
The people on the opposing side do have to have an interest in whatever it is their supporting, as long as they base their arguments on facts it's okay. Anyway, pretty much what you just said is that the people that the laws actually affect should have no say.
#400 to #396 - silverhyozanryu (01/26/2013) [-]
I see your point but no that's wrong, piracy is illegal. It's like asking criminals for their opinion on a murder but gamers are well, the people who PLAY video games.

They are the majority on the subject and no more about it than anyone else. Saying they have no credibility is there way of saying "We know you play them but we're politicians so it's our opinion that matters". They just want to make sure there is no opposition to any dumb laws they'l try to introduce.

Everyone's arguing with some invisible force, since no one seems to be disagreeing with them and I'm just sitting here, being that one guy who just likes playing games without defending them.

On a side note, Assaassins' Creed would be a bad example of a violent game, considering you're actively discouraged from killing anyone that didn't deserve it. Dwarf fortress. Now, THAT's a violent game. Can you chop someones' limps off, throw them in a pit full of giant rats and watch them get torn to shreds in any other game? No.

Yes, because a game where you're so powerful you can kill a man just by sneezing in his general direction is sooooooo difficult.
#447 to #418 - creepyunclebob (01/26/2013) [-]
God of War has nothing on Dwarf Fortress. I stabbed a woman lying on the ground in pain for 5 minutes straight without killing her, just making her increasingly wounded so she fought back less and less until bleeding out. That was an utterly normal fight, all of them are like that in Adventure Mode.

it's not the games that make people bad, it's down to their innate nature, temperament and social upbringing. Murder, violence and rape had always existed way before ancient times and so video games do not correlate whatsoever with crime rate. Even if there case where a game instigated one idiot to go out and murder somebody, it's like a one in a million occurrence, which isn't statistically substantial enough to lobby a ban.

To end all arguments about this:

I play games, so that I can do all the cool things that I can't do in real life.

Anyone whoi for some reason go outside and kill a school, because 'They learned it from the VIDJA GERMS should not even be allowed to live in the first place. WE all see them, they're nutsacks, the lot of them. And even then, the ones who go out against games are old farts who don't know how to properly spell Xbox or understand even the most basic things that games can do, and what piece of art and engineering and creative genius they tend to be.

Sure, you got bad games like Sonic '06. But you got really good games, like Borderlands 2, Half life (Franchise), Minecraft, Halo(Franchise), Journey, and to many others to mention.. SUPER MEAT BOY! D:

I swear to god, I don't want to live on this planet, inhabited by ignorant fools who think that prohibiting is the only way of solving a problem..

BAN GUNS! (Won't work)
BAN DRUGS! (Not working)
BAN ALCHOHOL! (It's a ****** way to get a buzz, but yeah, didn't work.)
BAN THE ECKSBOXES AND PAYSTLATIONS! (NO.)

I'm ******* done with how people react to video games being all of our problems. It's the same ******** whenever anything happens, just with different names involved.
'[name] from [place] started a shooting today at the early age of 12, killing several people. We believe it to be an imitation of the disturbing level of gun violence in Modern Warfare 2.'
Hang on? He was 12, and his parents gave him a ******* 18+ rated game? I'll admit that when we're younger we're more likely to imitate things we see on TV or films, but only up to a point. Which is part of why these restrictions are there for.
There is NO way that kid could have gotten the game himself, his ******* parents did it. The game didn't teach him to be immoral, his parents just never taught him to be moral. Whenever I got a game. Take me for example my parents would do a quick bit of research to make sure it would be a game suitable to my age if the age limit was slightly over my actual age (2 years at the very most if I was lucky).
A parent would never say 'My child imitated a move from Mortal Kombat, I should have looked into the game content to see if I thought it was suitable for my 12 year old.' No, why would they, that would be taking blame. They're much more then likely going to say 'Video games are corrupting todays youth! These games should be removed from the public so this violence will stop!'
If you're not going to take the time to see what your child is doing, and even worse if you're permitting it in spite of not having an idea of what they're doing, then your ******* baby maker should be banned from making kids - not games being banned from being made.
We have every right to have a say in this argument, you wouldn't ban gays from defending themselves about gay marriage, so gamers should be allowed to defend themselves against how we're "affevted" by video games.
Rant.

Video games is a modern form of art. Like when a movie teaches essomthing be seeing people expreince it , In video you experince it yourself , Gaming (in general) teaches you that you have to plan **** up before you do it , teaches how someone can do sush great things , teaches how important is to be nice to others , teaches about brotherhood , family , loyalty , (like in gta san andreas a game full of violent) , some games make you feel special , some games makes you indepressed , some games make happy , some improve your reflexs , And don't forget that video game studios help the economy and provide many Jobs one more thing **** YOU

excuse my grammar

Waste of time. Is any hobby really a super productive use of time? Stamp collecting... Puzzles... Board games... All of these things (except MAYBE stamps, since they are worth teh moonies) are an absolute waste of time. Video games can teach our children a lot of things, despite not being strictly educational. You know how when people paint a picture of a mountain and everyone loses their **** because it's good? Look at skyrim, it is an entire world. A beautiful world, full of foliage, and amazing landscapes. Say they are waste of time, but they are as much of an artistic masterpiece as any painting.

Whatever happened to the government working for the people?

I know gamers are not the same class of minority but imagine if instead of gamers he had said "gays" or "blacks". The ensuing ********* would darken the sky.

This man tried to pass legislation and when the people it would affect spoke up he publicly stated they should quiet down and have no credibility. There is no context in which that is okay.
#358 - butsecks **User deleted account** (01/26/2013) [-]
but by that logic because of the position he is in too, he would have no credibility either, therefore the argument is pointless, as would the rest of the world by that logic develop extremely slow, as anyone who had the knowledge to discuss how something could improve would be considered to have no credibility because of their position.

who the **** gave this guy a say in anything?
