To be honest most editing programs are damn expensive. Even more so 3d programs cost quite a bit.
I know there are opesource programs for editing/3d.

Yeah or you could pirate it.

So I downloaded the Sims 2 and it's expansions and such, because 3 is still too new for me to want to try and torrent it. I might get caught, you know?

At work the other day, my coworker's wife comes over and talks to us, and I mentioned I started playing it. She's like, "Oh you got the Sims? I love that game!"

MFW I replied, "Yes, I bought the Sims 2. Completely legitimately. I absolutely did not illegally download it."

What are you a little bitch, straight edge, moralfag?
1) Sims 3 was released almost 4 years ago
2) you seriously can't just make a comment about the game without either A) showing off that you're "UB3R-|-|4><0RZ" for torrenting or B) having such a strong conscience that you instantly tell everyone everything that you've ever done wrong.

1) My bad, for some reason, I thought it was newer. Oh well.
2) I'm not really a moralfag, I'm scared of getting caught (again.)
3) I bet you feel like such an Internet badass for pirating stuff, don't you? At least, that's how you come across.
4) Since when can't I make comments about torrenting stuff without trying to make myself out to be awesome or something? I already know I am, I don't care if anyone else does.
User avatar #164 to #161 - thepalmtoptiger (01/19/2013) [-]
@2 What did you get caught with, and what were the consequences?
@3 No, I don't normally torrent stuff; I typically just wait for Steam sales. The last thing I torrented was Skyrim when it first came out. I almost instantly regretted it; 1.0 was a buggy mess and updating means waiting another few hours to redownload the entire game. There is nothing honorable about torrenting; I usually end up paying for the game later anyway.
User avatar #173 to #164 - wyrddarcnyzz (01/19/2013) [-]
I was downloading the Transformer movies. I think Paramount Pictures may have made the torrent as a trap, because they sent my IP address to Mediacom, telling them to shut me down because of a copyright violation. I had to go into a Mediacom office and sign a sheet saying I wouldn't do it again. Obviously I have, but I try to be more careful now.

Yeah, well I didn't realize that Sims 2 had so many ******* add-ons and expansions and **** . There were twenty different installations to do, plus the crack. Took me over two hours to finally get everything right. And it takes forever to load families.

Hey bro Dynamic IP could help for that but out of curiousity (because I haven't pirated for a year out of fear of getting caught.) What exactly happened to you. I mean how you know you were caught and could you explain what happened a little more about what happened.

Dyanmic IP is a great tool and Tors are good too if you have a fast internet.
User avatar #195 to #190 - wyrddarcnyzz (01/19/2013) [-]
Also, downloading and uploading count as two separate infractions for Mediacom, so I used up two of my three chances simultaneously.
User avatar #194 to #190 - wyrddarcnyzz (01/19/2013) [-]
My internet cut out. When I called in to Mediacom, they told me they had received a notice from Paramount pictures about my copyright violation. I was told to go into a Mediacom office and sign the sheet, and when I did, they turned my 'net back on the next day.

As far as I know, seeding does nothing to slow down or otherwise harm your computerly activities, apart from taking away from your current upload speed (since it's being used to upload files via torrent client). So the only time you should turn off a seeding client is when you need to send your friend a heavy file via Skype or upload it somewhere.

Ya know, if they made the individual licensing not a ******* ridiculous price and reserved that crazy high price tag for the multi-licensing, such as for a big company who can afford to purchase that many licenses, I don't think their Pirate problem would be as high.
User avatar #184 to #124 - silasdg (01/19/2013) [-]
Their piracy problem is a none issue to them though because of that high price

Companies are still paying money and I i'm sure there are plenty of college students who are going into the media arts who have purchased this illegitimately.

They're only gaining money here. The people pirating were never going to buy and the people buying were never going to pirate.
User avatar #98 - BerwindTwentyFour (01/19/2013) [-]
I'd much prefer to buy something, especially if I like the program. Just so I can give support to the creators. But until I can actually afford, I go with torrenting or cracking my own files.

Honestly, I don't see the point in -not- seeding.

User avatar #150 to #115 - wyrddarcnyzz (01/19/2013) [-]
Yeah, I got caught once downloading the Transformers movies. Thing is, it got counted as two infractions by Mediacom, because I was seeding as I was downloading. If I get caught again, they throw me under the bus. I lose my connection permanently, and I have to pay the fine. So I'm rather skittish about using Bittorrent.
#162 to #150 - RonnieMcCrea (01/19/2013) [-]
How do you get caught?
User avatar #171 to #162 - wyrddarcnyzz (01/19/2013) [-]
I think Paramount Pictures made the torrent as a trap. Since torrent programs give out IP addresses indiscriminately, they probably just took mine and sent it to Mediacom, telling them to shut me down because of a copyright violation. I had to go in and sign a sheet saying I wouldn't do it again. Naturally I have, but I try to be more careful now.
User avatar #202 to #171 - nebuchadnezzaurus (01/19/2013) [-]
Right now Piratebay uses magnet links, which are supposed to be more secure (part of the reason I think is because the info within the magnet link about what it is you're actually downloading is encoded, so there's no way to tell which program/video/whatever was actually downloaded).
User avatar #204 to #202 - wyrddarcnyzz (01/19/2013) [-]
Except you can go into a torrent's peers list and see all the IP addresses of everyone downloading and uploading that torrent. They saw my IP address from that list, and sent it to Mediacom with a notice about my copyright violation.

I know this may seem stupid of me, but I seriously suck with computers. I try to download stuff from the piratebay but none of it works. I try different torrents or whatever, but then when I try to open the program I installed, it's just the installer asking to install it again. If anyone could help me, I would really appreciate it. any link or video on how to do it would be helpful too.

User avatar #119 to #118 - breadbasket (01/19/2013) [-]
Usually, after the Draino kicks in, your computer is more prone to catching a cold. Make sure it wears socks when it goes to bed, and takes a spoonfull of tylonol cold & flu.
