I think loving an error so very much is a bit silly. It may be because I'm very straight forward and I like precision, but it just seems so incredibly stupid to me. I personally think they should have just left her be, but tried to not make the error again and not act like a retard.

I love how TV shows never feature anything that you'd encounter in real life. There are people with mental disabilities, fat people, amputees, people with terrible teeth etc in real life but you never see them on TV. I have no idea of what is so offensive about reality.

A question I continually ask myself is, why am I suddenly not allowed to like someone with a mental handicap? It's as if I'm being denied the ability to appreciate her for who she is, instead being forced to pity them. I hate it when we put them up on pedestals where nobody can see them, for fear that they will not be accepted or everybody just naturally hates them on sight. To be honest it kind of sickens me that people get offended over the existence of people who aren't "normal".

The guy with down syndrome on workaholics
User avatar #167 to #166 - pukingrainbows (01/21/2013) [-]
That was a character added because he had down syndrome, not a regular character who just happens to have it.

Addition: Cheese from fosters home for imaginary friends was retarded. He was retarded, just for the sake of being retarded (He didn't even realise he was lactose intolerant)
Somehow, he hasn't been censored..

I disagree good sir. I personally don't quite care much for the actual show itself, yet I stick around because the fandom is incredible.

I would have been cool with Derpy if she didn't have an obvious retard voice. You can be clumsy and cross-eyed but making her talk the way she did was just a bad idea.
#32 to #26 - pokemonstheshiz (01/18/2013) [-]
Her voice sounded exactly like the Rudolph voice in that Christmas movie, no one complained about that.
User avatar #40 to #32 - corundum (01/18/2013) [-]
Context. Everything about Derpy in this episode portrayed her to be an obvious satire of the mentally handicapped.
User avatar #72 to #40 - sixfootfive (01/18/2013) [-]
Most people just saw her being a little bit thick and clumsy, which is what she's always been in the eyes of bronies.

You're the one pushing the mentally handicapped image after misinterpreting that scene.
User avatar #49 to #40 - pokemonstheshiz (01/18/2013) [-]
I just saw her as clumsy and random. I guess it's just how you look at it
User avatar #133 to #26 - Bohya (01/18/2013) [-]
The voice actor initially thought that she was meant to be speaking the part of a male character, and tried to put on a boyish voice. She was never meant to sound retarded. Anyway, I know of someone who speaks like she did, and that person is disabled. Are disabled people not alowed to be portrayed on TV anymore?
User avatar #135 to #133 - corundum (01/19/2013) [-]
Not satirized on a childrens' television show, no.
User avatar #136 to #135 - Bohya (01/19/2013) [-]
She was never. Only people who wished to see offense in her character design saw it. I doubt anyone's opinions on disabled people would ever have been changed by Derpy's appearance.
User avatar #27 to #26 - sporkbacon (01/18/2013) [-]
I hear the VA didn't know what gender character they were voicing so they went with a kind of gender neutral voice. To be honest, it could have been better, but oh well. They got rid of pretty much the entire scene anyway.
User avatar #28 to #27 - corundum (01/18/2013) [-]
She could totally be a non-offensive character consistent with every appearance in the first season. They just... ****** up.

I don't see her removal as a censorship of an offensive character, but as a deletion of a horrible, cringe-worthy scene.
User avatar #30 to #28 - sporkbacon (01/18/2013) [-]
I haven't seen the non-edited version in ages. I don't even remember what the voice sounded like.

Yeah, she was great as kind of a "Where's Waldo" type character, but giving her speaking parts was not their best plan. Or, if they really wanted to do that much fan service, they really should have taken a different voice altogether.

What would really be cool if they would have gotten a popular "Fanon" Derpy voice and used that, like someone from the fandom.
User avatar #73 to #27 - dildoes (01/18/2013) [-]
I'm nearly certain that only iTunes and Netflix changed it. Unless 'They' doesn't mean The Hub, you're wrong.
User avatar #91 to #73 - sporkbacon (01/18/2013) [-]
They as in, anyone that has anything to do with episode censoring. That's what I meant, because I have no idea who does what.
User avatar #94 to #91 - dildoes (01/18/2013) [-]
The people who make the show didn't change it. Only the people on iTunes and on Netflix.
User avatar #98 to #94 - sporkbacon (01/18/2013) [-]
Gotcha. Makes sense. Oh well. Personally, I didn't think that their portrayal of Derpy in the episode was offensive. I knew she was slightly off, but no more than anyone else. When I was watching it I saw nothing really wrong with it... Like I said before, the voice could have been a little better, but it was fine in my opinion.
User avatar #99 to #98 - dildoes (01/18/2013) [-]
I have to disagree with you. In my opinion she looked like someone mentally handicapped. Even her name sounds like a joking name of someone mentally handicapped.
User avatar #110 to #99 - sporkbacon (01/18/2013) [-]
To each his own. I'm not going to try to change your opinion. I have the type of personality that I don't really look for the worst in everything. I try to see everything with some innocence. That said, I haven't seen the episode or heard the voice in a while, so I might be lying to myself. Anyway, my point is that they probably shouldn't have bothered with the whole scene in general. It was too fan-service-y to me and they had a good "Find the Derpy in the episode" kind of minigame while watching. It doesn't really matter anymore. It's already dealt with.

She shows up in a few shots but we never see her face or cutie mark so she can be hard to find. He's a screenie from the jousting tournament in the premiere, she's there in the bottom right. She's also in the crowd outside Twilight's door in S3 E3 when they're deciding what to do about the Pinkies, and in the right hand crowd watching the performance at the end of S3 E5. Not sure about any of the more recent episodes, she's probably there somewhere

"My Little Pony; Friendship is Magic". Basically, she was a background character that become so popular at some point they made her talk during an episode, it was a pretty dorky (but fitting) voice, but after that Hasbro pulled away the original version and replaced it with one where she sounded completely dull and normal. Fanbase basically went ballistic.
User avatar #93 to #88 - willindor ONLINE (01/18/2013) [-]
Having a mentally challenged animal in a show could serious backfire. They got lucky it went out well.

I think that the fact that they took her out has caused more problems than that would have arised had just left her alone. It's obvious that Hasbro have a similar agenda to Hitler.

Please don't judge before watching. It's a show aimed at children which happens to be so well made it has attracted a much older audience too.

Either way, It's a show that's trying to convey important messages about how to be a good person, what kind of message do you think Hasbro (one of the production companies) sends when a character that is kind of clumsy and with a silly voice gets voice-overed with a completely new and normal voice as if there was something wrong with her before?

S'okay. S'okay. And Restrict? To be honest, there is nothing I, or anyone, can say in response to that. Insulting you or telling you to go **** yourself would cause backlash. Trying to make you see how ridiculous your sentiment is would be to the same effect, with you refusing to even think rationally at all, resulting in even greater chaos, which I don't think anyone but you wants. So please, just go on with your life, and at least try to keep your unwanted opinions to yourself.

because its funny, the show aside, you know something that makes people laugh, in case you didnt know people have different tastes to you, like i like the taste of your mother and you dont, then again the laws of the internet demand i question your sex life so i have to assume you do
