In English the cat goes "meow", in italian it's "miao"

Isn't it more objective then that? I've never actually heard a door make a sound anything like "slam". I'd say it sounds more like "Fwump", but I guess that just doesn't roll of the tongue does it?

Some are pronounced the same way, some not.
For example the onomatopeia for a gunshot is "bam" and "pow". We use "pum" and "pam".

Yeah it's a strange world the one we live in.
