Yes, this is true, but the lawyer you are given is barely adequate in most scenarios. Also, if you don't have a doctor you can go to the emergency room and they cannot deny to treat you.
User avatar #904 to #789 - mexicanfood (12/31/2012) [-]
Except that their job is to stabilize you and nothing more. You dont go to the ER for knee replacement, cancer, heart surgery, etc. That and they DO bill you its just you dont have to, but if you dont they just **** over the actual paying customers by charging them more
User avatar #1056 to #904 - mahnamesjakers (12/31/2012) [-]
Yes but by that logic the lawyer that you are given only "stabilizes" you in a sense to give you a fighting chance. Also, just as that lawyer that people are given comes from tax dollars, so would universal health care, it would just cost a hell of a lot more. I see your point though.
User avatar #727 - tintoes (12/31/2012) [-]
If you go to a hospital they treat you..... regardless if you have insurance or not. If I'm in a car crash and I get take to a hospital, they don't ask me on my way into the OR "Do you have insurance ? because if not, its out to the curb asshole."
User avatar #467 - fourtwentt (12/31/2012) [-]
actually the 2nd line should be 'if you cannot afford a doctor, we will be fining you'
User avatar #403 - mrsockz (12/31/2012) [-]
Well thats because if America socialized medicine the doctors would walk out and refuse to treat anyone, because doctors earn ten times whatever the government would offer them. Secondly the government would have to raise taxes to pay for socialized medicine and the people wouldnt want to pay more.
User avatar #386 - atkissonbr (12/31/2012) [-]
it doesn't matter how poor you are, you will always get treated for illness or injury in the united states, you will never be turned down because you are poor. The problem is that people will still have to pay the medical bills afterwards, but that's what medical insurance is for.

if you don't have insurance, then it is OK to say "tough **** "

Also, you get appointed a lawyer because you have the right to a fair trial under the United States constitution

****** hell op is a fag.
America has the best healthcare system IN THE WORLD. We have more doctors and nurses per person then any other country in the world. And our justce system is the way it is so people can always get a fair trial which is more important then making retards and drains on society better when they wont even help our country.
Other countries have ********* prison systems where you get locked up for ages for not doing anything and dont get any time for murders. Here you can get free lawyers so that wont happen dumbass

tl;dr America rules, suck a dick eurofags and ausfags

Posting as anon for inevitable **** storm.

I refuse to pay for free healthcare for someone else that sits on their ass all week long living off of welfare checks, but has a 2010 Charger sitting in their front yard.

I refuse to be told whether or not I can defend myself. Especially when people that are NOT law abiding are going to have guns anyway.

It's my opinion. Get over it.
#551 to #527 - tyroneisanigger (12/31/2012) [-]
Pay for free healthcare? One question for that. What about the people that REALLY need free / very very low cost health care? Say a couple (wife and husband) together incomes are less than 10K, the wife has cancer and the husband has diabetes, what then? Their incomes cannot afford treatments....

#832 to #551 - mrdrpage (12/31/2012) [-]
Allow me to rephrase that a little better... "I refuse to pay for 'universal' free health care for others."

What about the people who's income can barely support themselves, let alone your broke ass?

They were perfectly fine with their private healthcare plan, but now they are paying for another plan that they CAN'T afford.

They can still live a healthier life (assuming the doctor even tries because he's now getting paid whether you live or die) because of free health care, but they have no home to return to now.

Then what?

Houses foreclose and everyone complains that the system sucks.

Again, just my opinion with scenarios.

There's still a a two class society between people with compulsory health insurance and ones with private health insurance.

Especially at transplantations and expensive medicaments(against cancer for example you get cheaper ones that may not help as much as the more expensive ones) privates have an major advantage

The right to a fair trial is guaranteed to us in the constitution of the united states of america.

The right to someone else paying for your $30,000 operation, whether life saving or not, is something that was made up by the entitlement generation that doesn't want to get off their ass and work.

User avatar #94 to #85 - fosforgasxiii (12/30/2012) [-]
What'up with all those ******** with "get your ass and work"? Do you really actually believe that all poor people are lazy and all the working people rich/middle class.
1. There are LOT of "working poor", people who work their ass off but can't reach middle class
2. Some people want to work but can't because they're disabled or just can't find a job.
3. I think $30.000 for an operation might even be enough to bankrupt a middleclass person, the US needs to do something about it's ridiculous high healthcare costs.

Sincerly, someone who isn't born in a comfortable, wealthy middle class family but more than grateful that my government helps poor working families by funding healthcare and education so I get the chance to make something from my life.
User avatar #116 to #94 - SteyrAUG (12/30/2012) [-]
A lot of working poor? Did you know there's also a lot of professional beggars out there? That somehow earn $40k a year doing nothing but sitting on a street corner? If they can't find a job, then why aren't there more jobs out there? Maybe it's because our government refuses to cut taxes on small businesses who employ most of the workforce. A $30,000 operation should be much much less than the home loan these people have. Hospitals aren't like the IRS, they understand that operations are expensive and will work with you so you can pay over time. A friend of mine got his GED instead of finishing high school. Somehow, he's managed to get himself a job that has healthcare benefits, has a stable pay situation that allows him to put money away, and has a home. He's done all of this without any handouts from the government, so it's possible. Oh, did I mention he did it by working his ass off?
User avatar #138 to #116 - fosforgasxiii (12/30/2012) [-]
Then he was lucky to get a high wage. My mother earns €1200 a month, then she has to pay €600 rent, you can't find a decent appartement with two sleeping rooms under that price here. Electricity and gas is also very expensive so we have less than €600 a month for two people and we actually can't complain that much, there are people which earn €800 or €900. At that moment you're happy that you don't have to take a loan to pay your doctor or your school.
User avatar #163 to #138 - SteyrAUG (12/30/2012) [-]
He's working at a truck stop earning $13.50 an hour. Not a high wage.
User avatar #191 to #163 - xxxdemongirl (12/30/2012) [-]
If he works full time, that's roughly $26,000 a year. If he's covered by his employer for healthcare, that's more than enough to live off of if you know how to manage your money and stick to it. What fosforgasxiii's mother makes is equivalent to around $19,000 a year, which is to the point where it's barely enough to make ends meet. Compared to a lot of people, $13.50 an hour is a really high wage, considering many people are making half of that.
User avatar #129 to #116 - NolanNasty (12/30/2012) [-]
He got lucky, not everyone is.

"If they can't find a job, then why aren't there more jobs out there?"
What?
The reason they can't find a job is because there are hardly any jobs to find in the first place, and everyone that's unemployed are competing for the same jobs.
