Everytime I try the nuzlocke challenge, I pussy out. I hate myself. I can't even put myself through fake emotional trauma.

I love these so much, I can't play a pokemon game without doing nuzlocke. Obviously because of my name.

Seriously, everyone should do one of these, I cried like a man when ozai my samurott died to skyla. The bonds in nuzlocke are forever <3

ive never tried this but am considering it. i would however change the rules a bit. you can catch any pokemon you want but may never have more than six. no exceptions. this means that you would have to make the choice of either using less than six to catch certain later game pokemon or even making the tough choice of releasing one youve had all along for a new one... seems like it would make the game itself easier yet the emotional part harder

And you also HAVE to name your pokemon to build an even stronger connection.

I just went through the e4 in Soulsilver.
I lost all but my two newest members. I ended up taking down 3 of Lance's dragons with a Tauros, just barely. It was my fault. I didn't train enough. I didn't even mean for it to be a real run of the e4, I just kind of went for it to test how much more training I needed, planning to shut the game off and restart from the last save. But then it autosaved and I couldn't go back...
Now I'm taking on Kanto mostly with my Tauros. He's a bro if there ever was one.

You don't actually have to catch it, but you can't catch anything else in that area, and if you run out of pokemon you lose.

i'm not allowed to explore route 2 for a different one? i have to move on to the next?

Right. The first pokemon you see is the only one you can catch. No exceptions.

Unless you decide to change the rules. It's your game, after all.

Some people play with a "only one of each type of Pokemon" rule. That way, if you lose your Pidgeot, you can't just grab one of the thirteen other Pidgeys you caught. It makes each pokemon special and unique.

what about your starter then? do you release it to begin with or what?

Your starter is the first pokemon you got in your starting town. So, if I was playing Yellow Version, then Pikachu would be the pokemon I "Caught" in Pallet Town. Towns and Caves count as "Routes" for the sake of this challenge. Also, I sometimes count large dungeons, such as Silph Headquarters being separate from Saffron City, although I might be lynched for saying that.

Another clarification that I've seen, although this is a specific instance, is Mt. Coronet counting as three separate areas; The Inside, The Outside (The Snowy Part), and Spear Pillar. Some people even go so far as to say that any time the random encounters change, you can catch another pokemon. I don't like that rule, because that means you can catch a Gastly on every floor of the tower in Lavender town.

I have attempted 3 times. Two out of the three times I got my first pokemon from a route where you first get pokeballs, go up against the generic bird pokemon, and it gets a critical and BAM I lose it...

my friend did this once with Pokemon black. lost his starter(snivy) early due to a random crit, and for most of the game was soloing it with audino of all Pokemon. he had that mother trucker take on 12 Pokemon in a row and still won since it turned out that nearly all of the Pokemon he fought were male, meaning attract won him all of his battles.

Audino op!
