The reason movie theaters are so cold is because they are trying to encourage you to buy warm popcorn (which you will need to wash down with a beverage after in taking so much butter)
User avatar #164 - oodlesandoodles (12/12/2012) [-]
Stopped reading after point 3. That is a myth. The money is split between theaters and studios almost evenly. Fun fact, one of the reasons that 3D is being pushed so hard is because studios get a bigger chunk of the money from the sales

I worked at one of the biggest cinemas in austria, just 3 things I want to say:

point 3: most likely right, just that it's 80% per ticket, that goes to the studios.
(at least that's what my manager told me back then)
point 5: seriously, never eat the nachos!
A friend of mine worked there too, and when he had a bad day, he licked each nacho before putting it into the box.
He wasn't the only one doing this....
point 8: I don't exactly get what this means (obviously lack of english-skills :/ ), could you explain this to me?
User avatar #165 to #157 - justsomechickyo (12/12/2012) [-]
it means that "small" popcorn was most likely a bigger size (like medium) in the previous month. like it's not really a small at all......they just call it a small

Huh, interesting post. I thought theater's got a commission for ticket sales though but the lack of extra cash probably explains why most theaters are **** holes and most of them close.

Up until last year I didn't go to a movie for almost five your six years. Overpriced, come out on blu ray too fast. Still do, but I make more money now so I don't mind seeing a movie once in a while. This year had some nice flicks though... including The Avengers with Scarlett Johannson's amazing ass on a huge IMAX screen.
User avatar #155 - ultrablue (12/12/2012) [-]
Oh man, I used to work at a movie theater and I wanted to ******* NAB people sneaking in, because usually it's little douchebag high schoolers who think they are hot **** .

Came so close one time, but somehow they eluded me in the dark of the theater, plus I didn't see which one they actually went into.
User avatar #162 to #155 - sketchE ONLINE (12/12/2012) [-]
as the post stated your theater isnt losing money. i did it through out highschool because i was broke. also you have no legal authority to kick them out so when you tried to call the cops they probably wouldnt care
User avatar #212 to #162 - ultrablue (12/12/2012) [-]
It's about the principle of the fact. And there's no need to call the cops, there's security who's job it is for that sort of thing.
User avatar #227 to #212 - sketchE ONLINE (12/13/2012) [-]
again security has no legal right to detain or remove someone. if they ohysicaly move them then the person coul sue the company for assault. thats why most places have a no chase policy
User avatar #228 to #227 - ultrablue (12/13/2012) [-]
Well I guess all movies are free then since you can't legally force anyone out from sneaking in to not pay for a movie is what you're saying
User avatar #229 to #228 - sketchE ONLINE (12/13/2012) [-]
basicly. according to the law the only people with legal authority to arrest or detain someone is the police
User avatar #231 to #229 - ultrablue (12/13/2012) [-]
I don't buy it. The theater I work had cops outside it at night during the popular nights usually weekends, so I'm pretty sure if there was resistance from security trying to remove them they would probably be more than willing to remove them. Basically what I'm saying is most people would probably gtfo if you caught them sneaking in for fear of getting in whatever sort of trouble.
User avatar #234 to #231 - sketchE ONLINE (12/14/2012) [-]
well most people dont know that. if police are stationed there they probably would do something and teenagers would be more reluctant to risk it. the point i was making is that police wouldnt take a call from the movie theater seriously. and if the person refused to leave willingly only the police could remove them
User avatar #235 to #234 - ultrablue (12/14/2012) [-]
I'm thinking that they would come because assuming people refuse to leave when security says gtfo, that problem would warrant a response. I mean, police come for some of the stupidest **** so I think they probably would if the issue escalated.
User avatar #236 to #235 - sketchE ONLINE (12/14/2012) [-]
im not saying they wouldnt come im saying they would be annoyed bout it and take their time. ive been on a police ride along and the cop was annoyed when he got called to the mall about an assault because mall security is over the top trying to get people charged over the smallest things
User avatar #237 to #236 - ultrablue (12/14/2012) [-]
Well it's their ******* job so eff em if they're annoyed. I'm pretty sure movie theater management and security don't want to get the cops involved, so I'm assuming the issue would have to be quite escalated if they needed to be called.
User avatar #238 to #237 - sketchE ONLINE (12/14/2012) [-]
well they could be called as soon as the person is asked to leave and refuses. im assuming most managers will just say **** it since they arent really losing money
User avatar #239 to #238 - ultrablue (12/14/2012) [-]
As stated before, it's the principle of the fact. I know the people I worked for got pissed when people tried to sneak in, or even when they'd go to the automated ticket machines and try to buy child tickets for themselves.
User avatar #240 to #239 - sketchE ONLINE (12/14/2012) [-]
in a world where people are getting stabbed over drugs i think someone stealing a ticket that brings no money into the company is a little petty for the cops to be worrying about
User avatar #241 to #240 - ultrablue (12/14/2012) [-]
That's why the shouldn't have to get involved at all. People should just gtfo in the first place for stealing.
User avatar #242 to #241 - sketchE ONLINE (12/14/2012) [-]
your oone of those moral highground kinda dudes arent you? its really not stealing since you and the company dont lose the ability to play it. losing about 100 at most from all the people who sneak in isnt that bad. unless theyre smoking in the theater being obnoxious or in general causing harm or damage to people or property just let it go
User avatar #244 to #242 - ultrablue (12/14/2012) [-]
In the end, I don't care that much, especially since I'm not working there anymore. Going back to the start of my original comment, I just wanted to nab high schoolers who thought they were hot **** . Particularly one instance in my mind stands out.
User avatar #245 to #244 - sketchE ONLINE (12/15/2012) [-]
thats what i thought. you say its on the principle but it seems more because its personal
User avatar #246 to #245 - ultrablue (12/15/2012) [-]
It is the principle. I'm not gonna go out on a vendetta to scorn everyone one who does it, but while I am working there, then yes. I ******* am.
User avatar #243 to #242 - ultrablue (12/14/2012) [-]
It is the principle of the fact. I can't put it any plainer. If you want to steal the **** , go pirate it.
User avatar #151 - vikinginabox (12/12/2012) [-]
I work at a theater and all of this is pretty much right. Although at my theater all the movies start 5 minutes late from when they are "supposed" to start and they never end when they say they end. For example twilight always lets out 15 minutes early and others 3-5 minutes early

The theater I worked at the Popcorn was changed every few hours. The Manager didn't yell at us he just made sure the customer was happy and the thing about sneaking into movies is true, We didn't care. We didn't have real food. Just Popcorn, Candy and Soda. Combination deals are true mostly. Everything else is stuff I don't know about.
#134 - saxplaya (12/12/2012) [-]
Our large popcorn tubs are 75 cents more than the medium bags. Tubs come with a "free refill". They are actually the same size. I found this out when a customer changed their mind and ordered a large instead of a medium and I poured the medium into the large.

There's a Tim Hortons in my theater that charges exactly the same as in every other Tim Hortons. Quality is slightly lower but still good!
