op you greedy ass. Since you personally saw that she wasnt able to tip, you should have just told her it was ok and not worry about it.

I tried to give them back. She insisted I keep them.
#294 - anon (11/27/2012) [-]
I could be wrong, but don't waiters get paid less than minimum wage to account for tips? In which case, it is completely reasonable to be upset if you are not getting tipped. Those of you who don't tip are just cheap assholes.
#304 to #294 - pyroniclol ONLINE (11/27/2012) [-]
This is true in America atleast. However, if your hourly wage + tips do not add up to be equivalent or greater to minimum wage the company is required to make up the difference. (At least that's how it worked for my friend at applebees)

you were about to get pissy because they didn't tip you? dumb cunts like you are the reason i rarely tip
#324 to #276 - anon (11/27/2012) [-]
And you're the reason they spit in your food.

You should always tip, unless the person serving you is a real asshole. Servers pretty much depend on tips.

You obviously weren't assertive enough.
User avatar #256 to #253 - FUUUU (11/27/2012) [-]
That is ridiculous. You do not get assertive with someone, especially a customer, if they are insisting that you keep something they give you. That makes them think you are unappreciative of the gesture they are showing you.

^ This guy. This guy right here is just a down right ASSHOLE.

Great that you actually had sense to not get pissy about it in the end, but over a 15 dollar meal? You are not going to miss a damn dollar or what ever % They even give you. I give Tips as a thank you. Not because you are "supposed to" If it was? Include it in the bill. Cheers to you being a good person.

you realize waiters and waitresses usually get paid less than half of their state minimum wage, so their income depends on tips. that's like saying you're a cunt for expecting to get paid for doing your job. shouldn't you only get paid if your manager thinks you deserve it? dick
User avatar #260 to #236 - BridgeTroll (11/27/2012) [-]
have you ever worked in a restaurant? im a waiter as well, my hourly pay is $1.50 an hour, and minimum where i live is $7.25. your tips are pretty much my only source of money

waitering is one of the best jobs to get as a student because scheduling is flexible, plus you can work nights if you are in school during the day

There are many other jobs that are flexible.

is it almost obligatory to tip in the US (i'm assuming that is were you are from) because in NZ tipping isn't common
User avatar #272 to #267 - BridgeTroll (11/27/2012) [-]
indeed, i am an amerifag. and i know, most people dread taking tables of foreigners because as a general rule is that in most countries, waiters make minimum wage, so they come to america and dont tip. I had a party of 20 people from india one time, i worked my ass off for them, they bought 10 bottles of wine, bill came out to be around $700 and they didnt leave me a tip. i was ******* crying.
User avatar #284 to #272 - onionsam (11/27/2012) [-]
that sucks man. i would tip then if you aren't making minimum.
User avatar #280 to #272 - BridgeTroll (11/27/2012) [-]
plus, standard tipping is around 15%
User avatar #297 to #280 - shadovfox (11/27/2012) [-]
i think it's kinda a rule that you shall always tip 10% or something. i was just in prague with friends from the UK and NZ. we were tipping quite alot, always 50-100 kr per person (we were 8 persons, so it becomes quite alot)
User avatar #300 to #297 - BridgeTroll (11/27/2012) [-]
its supposed to be 15 is standard. i never give a tip below 18% because as a waiter i know how ****** it is to get stiffed.
User avatar #303 to #300 - shadovfox (11/27/2012) [-]
i always juat go for a round sum. like if the food i 340 kr i would throw in 400, much easier.

You know... out of respect or something for such a kind act.

And to all these people commenting about tips and how she's lucky to even get tipped.... Are you serious? Most of these people are very uninformed and are being a bit rude.

waiters and waitresses should get paid fairly 10 an hour or more. tips should just be for exceeded expectations type of service kinda like how it is in Korea
User avatar #192 - sixfivefourtwoone ONLINE (11/27/2012) [-]
Wow everyone is hating on waiters/waitresses, picture for a second a world without them. "Man my girl wants to get a bite to eat and she's getting really pissy, we've been on the rocks lately and I really want to keep her happy so I'll take her out. **** WHERE IS THE SERVICE!? WHO IS GOING TO GET US OUR FOOD!? NOW SHE'S MORE PISSED." That's how it would be, now shut the **** up, most of you probably don't even have a job.
