It's actually Israel fighting for their homeland.
User avatar #363 to #358 - zraxx (11/25/2012) [-]
actually no, it is Palestine.
User avatar #366 to #363 - doodogger (11/25/2012) [-]
Explain. Please don't be a random ignorant liberal...
User avatar #373 to #366 - zraxx (11/25/2012) [-]
Well from my understanding, which is rather limited as i am neither religious or interested in the area. Palestine was invaded a long ass time ago, and the region has been fighting for who is the real nation-state since. I think i am a bit off, but eh
User avatar #383 to #373 - doodogger (11/25/2012) [-]
Well, wherever there are people, that happened. The palestinians are just still buttmad. Imagine if the Native Americans of today actually tried to take back the U.S.

User avatar #388 to #383 - zraxx (11/25/2012) [-]
that's actually be very different. As I doubt the Native American population could get the kind of weaponry used in the battle of buttmad.
User avatar #391 to #388 - doodogger (11/25/2012) [-]
So just because the palestinians afford to pay hamas and hezbala to shoot Israeli civilians with rockets, they have the right to still be mad about something that happened over 1000 years ago?
User avatar #377 to #373 - Sethorein ONLINE (11/25/2012) [-]
Depends. How long ago are we talking? 1948, or like... 300 something CE?
User avatar #378 to #377 - zraxx (11/25/2012) [-]
300 ce is the one i'm talking about
User avatar #396 to #378 - Sethorein ONLINE (11/25/2012) [-]
Right well the Jews owned all of Israel at that time. This being all of the land from the Golan Heights to the Sinai. Then the Romans came and took over. They let the Jews be autonomous but they eventually revolted for independence. They won this revolt for a month or two and even minted their own coins. It was the Bar Kochba revolt. Unfortunately Rome came back with a vengeance and wrecked Judea (Israel's name at the time as it was comprised solely of the Israelites from the tribe of Judah). When Rome took back control it renamed Judea as Palestina and Jerusalem Aellia Capitolina in order to insult the defeated Jews as the term Capitolina refers to Jupiter Capitolinus. A distinctly pagan god. Afterwards the Jews were exiled throughout rome and only a small community stayed in the now completely Roman province. This was the beginning of the Jewish Diaspora.

The Muslims who came to inhabit Palestina were from the Arabian peninsula. They spread throughout the land during the crusades and settled in Palestina around 1000 CE. They were never autonomous, but they were allowed to build villages on the land provided they submitted to the will of their lord who could have been Zoroastrian, Christian, or a myriad of other religions. It was only near the end of the first world war when the Ottomen finally fell and the Palestinan muslims finally had no ruling class over them but themselves. However, it should be noted, the Jews never left the land over their exile. Never completely. And in the past centuries had been making a point of immigrating back to their ancestral home. Only 400 characters left. If you want I can talk about the more recent Palestinian politics of the past century.

nah, im good. if the urge arises i shall turn to you or google. but thanks anyways
User avatar #405 to #404 - Sethorein ONLINE (11/25/2012) [-]
I wouldn't turn to google... The biggest mistake Israel ever made was assuming people would keep believing it was correct. Meanwhile the Islamists have built a huge network of false information on the net because they realize that people believe whatever they see on the web and will immediately cling to their cause if they flood the net with anti-Israeli propaganda. Want proof? google search "Israeli atrocities" then google search "Palestinian atrocities"

10 bucks says in both cases you'll find reports and pictures of Palestinians being abused. Now one might say ISRAEL IS TOTALLY EVIL LOOK AT THIS. I see this and say Israel has seriously neglected its PR campaign. Just last week CNN showed a rocket victim being dragged away by his friends. In a later video that same rocket victim was walking around as if nothing happened. Miraculous recovery, or propagandist. This is the kinda stuff you should be careful about :S
User avatar #390 to #378 - doodogger (11/25/2012) [-]
You know what I think? It doesn't even matter what I think, but when something happened SO long ago, it shouldn't be relevent anymore. Both the Israeli's and the palestinians think they are destined to own it, and Israel already staked claims on it and have built a civilization on it, so to me, the palestinians should just give up. Just like I said, this happened everywhere in history.
User avatar #392 to #390 - zraxx (11/25/2012) [-]
personally i think that whole assburned region should be put in a giant dome or some **** and left there to solve their problems. either last one standing comes out or they all learn to use words and everyone wins.

I'm sorry to sound like a bitch, but why is it everytime we have a post on FP that has anything to do with a government, politics or just countries in general, it always gets redirected into something along the lines of "hurr durr amurrica is stupid n fat"?

I already knew what the post was going to be about even before I finished scrolling down. Yes, it's funny to laugh at America's faults, and I find them funny at times too. But do they need to have the same joke in every single one? The way it's presented is that America is complete **** and everywhere else is a godsend. You went as far to compare Hunger in Africa to Greed in America on a day you can get everything that would've been overpriced for a really low sum of cash.

Tl;dr-If you could get something you wanted for cheap, you'd do it too. America isn't this demon that only cares about themselves, and even if that's not what this post says that's what it's implying, that America is full of selfish people.

User avatar #395 to #389 - schneidend (11/25/2012) [-]
I'll admit to some bias in favor of Israel as well. There's literally nothing to dispute as far as what part of the world Israel resides in. The British pulled out of that area and the U.N. established that land as a new sovereign territory. Period. Rejecting something that the majority of the world agrees upon doesn't make the Palestinians righteous freedom fighters.

I lived in Israel for eight years and visit about once a year, so I can easily tell you how ******* pissed off I get when I see people acting like the terrorist organizations that attack Israel are "fighting for freedom." Anybody who thinks Hamas or Hizballah or any of these other terrorist organizations actually care about "freedom" or safety has no idea what he/she is talking about. The hundreds (sometimes thousands) of rockets that fly into Israel every year have one purpose: To attempt to kill as many innocent civilians as possible.

While Israel is by no means perfect, the only reason civilians die when Israel strikes is that Hamas purposely places their military assets in highly populated areas for two reasons: To deter Israeli attacks and to tell the world that Israel is murdering their babies when people inevitably die. If given funding to build schools, they'd probably use it to buy more rockets instead.

It's easy to sit on your couch on the other side of the world and criticize Israel, but you'd need to actually be live there and have family members in the IDF to truly know what these "resistance" forces are really all about.

#2 The Palestinians with the assistance or Jordan, Egypt, and Lebanon were far better equipped than the Israelis in the war for independence. Israel one through sheer luck. Too bad the "Palestinians fighting for their homeland" have turned into nothing but a bunch of radicals murdering people simply for being different and simply for being over there. It's not wanting land back anymore.. it's just a hateful grudge and lust for vengeance.

I'm pretty sure the rest of the world's first world countries only care for Israel's side in the conflict now.
#288 to #274 - twomd (11/25/2012) [-]
I noticed that too, but I figured the liberals would red thumb my ass dry. Israel launched a ground war after hundreds of rockets were fired at civilians every day, and people say that palestine is correct to do it. If you asked a Palestinian, "would you spend your paycheck for food for your kids, or for weapons to attack Isreal, what would the answer be? They're savages, and Israel will only attack personnel who are militaristic. Moreover, if any Israeli civilians die, then their government chalks it up as a mission failed...But Palestine would say, yeah a few women and children died at a school we held up, but none of our brainwashed radical 'soldiers' did.

TL;DR: Palestinians are savages, and If anyone thinks that Israel is in the wrong, I pity them.
#295 to #288 - acquirecurrency (11/25/2012) [-]
I love how the media here always references the number of rockets being fired, since they don't want to admit that the rockets are **** constructions and most of them get shot down by Iron Dome (which is a good thing). The fact is that if the fighting between Israel and Palestine stops, then the right-wing Likud Party in Israel has no reason to exist, and thus they have every incentive to prolong the conflict and instigate further military action by both sides.

TL:DR: No it's more complicated than that.
#325 to #295 - occamsrazor (11/25/2012) [-]
Does it matter how many rockets hit anywhere? All it shows is they just have bad aim and they're still trying to murder as many Israeli civilians as possible. If a Mexican cartel shot 500 rockets into Texas and none hit a single person, you think America would just stand around with its dick in its hand or retaliate? And further if we do retaliate and kill some cartel members in the attack would we be branded war criminals by the world for killing innocent people who never killed anyone here?
#332 to #325 - acquirecurrency (11/25/2012) [-]
No, my point was not that the firing of the rockets was acceptable, but rather that it was an exaggerated threat by the Likud Party and pro-war people in general. It is not acceptable, but I guess I didn't make my point clear there, my bad :P
#339 to #332 - twomd (11/25/2012) [-]
It is not a hyperbole either. A ****** , poorly constructed, cheap gun like an AK-47 can still kill a lot of people. But is it that an exaggeration? No they were mass produced by many nations to kill people, despite no, because they were cheap. So these cheaply made, poorly aimed rockets, are, well, they're still ******* rockets. And they would still turn your bones into a paste.
#329 to #325 - twomd (11/25/2012) [-]
Correct Sir! but kinda what I said
#305 to #295 - twomd (11/25/2012) [-]
The rockets are **** construct, but most of them ARE NOT taken down, you may be able to find videos of rockets on youtube, where people here an air siren and have sub twenty seconds to take cover, that is emotionally demoralizing and could give children shell shock. the point is, if ONE rocket was launched from mexico to america for some spontaneous burst of anger or w/e, We would stomp the breath from their lungs. And I applaud Isreal for retaliating back at Gaza. People mention the number because the spoiled people like me cannot imagine what it would be like to wake up to the sound of a rocket in my back yard, let alone ten thousand. How is it more complicated matters because the rockets are, oh well, they're bad rockets. "Bad Rockets" Well they're ******* Medium Ranged Ballistic Missiles! so I dont give a damn if they're a poor kind of killing machines, because they're killing machines nonetheless.
#314 to #305 - acquirecurrency (11/25/2012) [-]
Israel has basically turned Gaza into a massive concentration camp. Israel can use airstrikes and drone attacks to kill anyone they damn well please, since all they have to do is cite terrorism and suddenly the killing of innocent women and children is justified. The settlements going on in the West Bank are another aggravation. If you consider Israel morally superior, is it acceptable for the US to give them our unconditional support given the way they have no recourse about attacking civilians, stripping Palestinians of all rights, and taking their land? And after all of this, do you expect the Palestinians to not fight back? Of course I am in disagreement with the violent tactics used by Hamas and Hezbollah, but I consider both sides equally despicable in this case. The difference is, my leaders have chosen to support Israel while I believe this isn't something the US should be involved in.
#327 to #314 - twomd (11/25/2012) [-]
Dude! Israel has recently started a ground war with Gaza, but before that HAD NOT been in there. They left! And they dont kill civilians intentionally, but HAMAS hides in public buildings and uses civilians as shields, so that Israel wont attack them, and sometimes they cant attack them because they know they dont want to kill any innocent people. The drones that were used to assassinate people were only used to kill HAMAS officers and generals, who wouldnt stop bombing Israel. And dude, we give gratuitous amounts of money to Egypt, who helps Gaza attack Israel under the radar. the only reason we give them money, is because they signed a peace treaty with Israel, and have since, been looking for ways to start conflict. Open your eyes please this IS more complicated... Egypt's people rebeled against the government for making peace, and now a new man is in power, and he is a Radical Muslim.
#356 to #327 - acquirecurrency (11/25/2012) [-]
Morsi just brokered the cease-fire and has proven to not be a radical. Anyway, I need to sleep so I'll end like this. If we are honestly going to seek a solution to this problem, then you have to recognize that Israel is not going to help the situation by doing airstrikes into the densely populated Gaza Strip and continuing to encroach on the West Bank with settlements, because that gives the extremists Muslims every incentive and a cause to rally public support for a war. That in turn gives the right-wingers in Israel justification for war. And voila, you have right-wingers on both sides manipulating their populations into war so that they can retain their political power. Any real solution will have to come from reasonable Palestinians and peace-seeking Israelis, and while the current conflict is terrible (4 Israelis killed, Hundreds of Palestinians killed) hopefully Morsi and Clinton can help....but realistically the cycle of war will most likely repeat over and over...damn it's sad. But you can't just blame one side.

No need to be a cunt about it. That anon is correct. They don't give a **** about Jews living together. They're pissed because high-horse countries took land from them and gave it to the jews. You'd be pissed to if countries that thought they were better than you took some of your land and gave it to people just because they went through some **** . Especially if that country has a history of blaming ALL of your people for the actions the radicals take and start drone bombing the **** out of your homes and killing your children.

...Israel was given to the Jews by the British. Yeah, I'd be pissed off, but most of the fighting is religiously motivated.

As an australian I don't get the whole black friday thing, why do yous need to bombard the stores at midnight to get things slightly cheaper. I have seen news reports of fights, beatings, and even deaths of people being trampled by the rush or murdered. Is it really worth it? This is a case of some americans having horribly ****** up priorities.

To start, it's not slightly cheaper. It's a hell of a lot cheaper (I got something for $34 that was $80 the day before at a local department store, but didn't go during the rush) than any other days in the year. A lot of people go to try and get things for Christmas at ridiculously low prices, and a lot go just for the adrenaline rush (don't personally understand this one, but it seems to be reason for a lot of people to go). Yes, some people get trampled each year, but they're just getting picked off by natural selection if they're willing to risk getting mixed up in a literal stampede of crazed shoppers.

I don't personally see the appeal in trying to get through raging mobs of people to go shopping, but to each their own I suppose. And don't be so quick to **** on Americans for this, I'm sure that if Australia had sweeping Black Friday sales you would have the same thing happening over there.

I said SOME americans have ****** up priorities, I didn't generalize and **** on all of america. When I see images or videos of black friday rushes it literally looks like sheep being herded into a pen. It's a horrible idea and not worth the lives (really sad I have to say that) that it costs. All over buying some material goods at cheaper prices, good god

I usually slip in after the big groups. I went into Best Buy, picked up Assassin's Creed Revelations and Assassin's Creed III (saved $48 buying those two, by the way), a Kindle Fire, and an iPad case, and it took me less than 30 minutes.

It also makes sense if you look at the financial crisis we are faced with. I mean, sure, it's not as bad as Africa or Egypt...but it's still a pretty ******* big deal.
