One time we went to Eagle Rock, Missouri for a summer (hottest summer of my effin life), and I got to work in a forge a couple days. It was hot and miserable, but really cool at the same time. I recommend everyone make themselves a spoon, fork, or knife out of cast iron at some point in their life. It will make you look at eating utensils in an entirely new light.

Did it take long to make the coat rack? The first thing I made was a spoon, and it took me forever. But that was mostly because I had no idea what to do at first, and was nervous/scared.

it doesn't take too overly long cause it was super basic...the hardest part about it is just getting the **** to NOT curve as you hit it...i said **** it and let it do what it wanted...knife was easy as balls cause i made it out of a railroad tie

coal or gas?

coal...hell i've even tried would but it takes a hell of a lot more time and force from the hammer and you can't really create certain items because of heat difference but generally its cheaper to go cut your own wood if the need arises and you're able to use it lol

I believe if you put the wood into an enclosed space and give it an air intake, you can take a blow dryer and create a much hotter heat source then any regular blower can give you. It works better with coal in the long run because of the temperature difference, but it's all in how much air you're flowing through it.

the blow dryer being the accelerator of air flow of course.

as true as that may be my intent is to not use electricity with it...i was thinking of using a foot pump with a turbine(just put a funnel of some sort on it to focus the air). oh definitely on the coal burning hotter too but i'm a poor bastard who saves money anywhere he can lol
