I DO agree that Les is more of a badass, and it's cooler that he's actually on his own doing all this hardcore shit... but I prefer the SHOW Man vs Wild
#29 to #28 - anonymous (09/01/2012) [-]
Yeah I agree. Since Bear has a camera crew that can help in case of emergency he does ballsier stuff which makes the show more entertaining imo.

No doubt is Les a badass but all he does is set up camp 70% of the show.

Wow OP thanks for censoring I don't think my pure mind could've handled the f bomb
User avatar #24 to #23 - Prada (09/01/2012) [-]
I didn't make this.
User avatar #20 - pfccross (09/01/2012) [-]
I saw one the episodes he did. He brought a gun, but only because he was absolutely forced to because of the threat of bears in the area.
#19 - anonymous (09/01/2012) [-]
Why the fuck does OP think he can just come on here and share his goddamn opinion?

TL;DR this is the internet, no opinions

actually no... while bear grylls does indeed take shortcuts, he puts himself in FAR more dangerous situations, plus he spent years in the special forces. He also does things that one would need to do to survive, with an insanely large amount of survival knowledge.
While Les stroud just wings it... the situations he puts himself in are far less threatening, and while i like them both, Bear grylls is pretty badass...les stroud not so much.

Bear is for show.
User avatar #36 to #18 - MakiChan (09/01/2012) [-]
my dad is ex military who also had shit loads of survival training. he says bear takes too many risks that can get you harmed. if youre hurt you cant get food and thus die. sure if it was just him in the wild and he was trained sure but hes telling novice people how to survive ....novice people. jumping off a cliff is a dumb move then trying to find another way. sure it makes the show more fun to watch but in survival you have to secure food water and shelter till recue....you cant get that stuff seriously hurt or dead.

and dont forget that theres a lot of morons out there that will monkey see monkey do.
User avatar #481 to #36 - fitchy (09/01/2012) [-]
he shows how to escape without rescue, thats why he takes those risks, he isn't teaching how to survive in the wild, he teaches how to survive through it
User avatar #22 to #18 - Prada (09/01/2012) [-]
I know, Grylls was trained in the military so he is more prepared to tackle precarious situations better than Stroud can, plus he have a crew that will lend a hand should his life really in danger. So, he's more covered than Stroud. While Grylls is indeed an undeniable badass, he does it knowing help is always just a few steps away. Stroud is on his own; if he fucks up, he's done for. He can't take huge risks like Grylls unless they're an absolute necessity. Not to mention he's much older and does not have the same physique as Grylls.

To me, Bear Grylls is shock value while Les Stroud is realism.
#25 to #22 - bendsuover (09/01/2012) [-]
My only issue with Stroud is he often knows how long he has to survive and where the rescue will be, often right where he starts.
User avatar #30 to #25 - lupusbrine (09/01/2012) [-]
But Bear never actually has to get rescued, so that point you just brought up is null.
#32 to #30 - bendsuover (09/01/2012) [-]
Exactly he doesnt get rescued he gets the fuck outta there.
User avatar #33 to #32 - lupusbrine (09/01/2012) [-]
Honestly, I like both shows anyway. Man vs Wild for the more fast paced survival and Survivalman for the realistic survival.
User avatar #17 - zeldaforever (09/01/2012) [-]
he's starting to do more shows again, he has one where he does ten days
User avatar #15 - Lambda (09/01/2012) [-]
Stroud does carry a "panic button", a GPS transponder that he can use to call for rescue if need be. I don't know if he's ever used it.
User avatar #31 to #15 - lupusbrine (09/01/2012) [-]
He has used it once in the episode when he was drifting in the ocean in the escape raft. I think he has only used it to see if his team still has communication with him or knows where he is or something like that.
#11 - pedocommando (08/31/2012) [-]
If stroud doesn't have a camera crew with him, how was that last picture taken? he clearly is holding his only camera.
User avatar #331 to #11 - chiktikkavaspaus ONLINE (09/01/2012) [-]
He normally starts each episode with a full crew of people before the abandon him.
User avatar #280 to #11 - KayRed (09/01/2012) [-]
Or, more rationally thinking, this was a promotional photo-op, and not from the show itself.
#134 to #11 - hemming (09/01/2012) [-]
First off, he brings more than one camera with him
secondly, Tripod.
#14 to #11 - anonymous (08/31/2012) [-]
He carries 3 cameras at a time, with 2 tripods.
User avatar #93 to #14 - rawrasaurus (09/01/2012) [-]
Stroud: "Nah, not dramatic enough, better take another one."
User avatar #12 to #11 - LonelyCamel (08/31/2012) [-]
he carries back ups, I remember one episode he almost had to cut short because all the rain was destroying his cameras
User avatar #13 to #12 - pedocommando (08/31/2012) [-]
can we see a picture of every camera he owns?
#607 to #13 - darkphoenixxx (09/01/2012) [-]
nope!

Why bother censoring it?

That's one of the actors from the Norwegian Zombie movie Dead Snow

I remember that episode. He'd just eaten the heart of a reindeer. It's Bear alright.

Actually it's not. Wrong hat, wrong jacket
User avatar #21 to #9 - daghost (09/01/2012) [-]
He had a couple different jackets throughout the movie. That was after the bit the neck out of the zombie.

Don't you change your clothes occasionally? I sure hope so.
