It's kinda like how the Planet express ship flies. The ship doesn't move at all. The universe moves around the ship.

All I could think about was that looks like a lemon with various items orbiting about it. Too much FJ item collection.

Well, the gif is not exactly correct. Our solar system moves, that's right, but its orbit and the planet's are almost on the same plane.
<Gif related, another Solar System model.

Lol, that's nothing..

..now imagine our galaxy.

Why was I not informed about this sooner? Everything I know is a lie!

...also most hydrogen doesn't have a neutron and that's why the hydrogen bond is so string and life exists.
And Santa's not real.

Science can certainly be quite dangerous in the wrong hands, and to think out of desperation you almost made me summon Candleja-

well maybe everything else in space is moving and we're sitting still in the void.. anything and everything is relevant in space.
User avatar #132 to #123 - funnymonky (08/16/2012) [-]
...No...That's actually completely wrong..... How do you think our galaxy is a spiral? Because it spins. We don't sit in a void, as a void is a vacuum, and a perfect vacuum is a void. Only a few things in space a actually relevant, galaxies, galaxy clusters, etc.
I think you should really read up on stuff because you go talking **** .
User avatar #156 to #132 - joestraightballa (08/16/2012) [-]
well you're just blowing smoke out of your ass... probably trying to troll. but think of it this way... as far as we know our galaxy could rotate around us. it is probably hard for you to imagine because we are not the center of our galaxy. but there would be no way to prove me wrong and no way for me to prove myself right.

"physics in our universe are only limited by our imagination" Albert Einstein

...No it's been proven...Dude I study this for a living, I know what I'm talking about. So sit down son.
User avatar #278 to #166 - joestraightballa (08/19/2012) [-]
lol yea ok. i'm sure you would have better things to do with your time then prove people wrong on funnyjunk.

if you really do it for a living what is the exact title and description of your job.
#150 to #132 - anon (08/16/2012) [-]
that is of course assuming he meant relative and not relevant
#146 to #132 - anon (08/16/2012) [-]
no he is actually right it is all relative either way you look at it you can never know which one is fact due to Einsteins Theory of Relativity.
User avatar #122 - sonsofsol ONLINE (08/16/2012) [-]
Another fact for you. The relativistic factor for our orbit around the sun alone never mind the above incomparable madness is
which means you are in fact are expecting that many seconds per second.
#121 - hargleblarg (08/16/2012) [-]
I'm staring at it, but my brain is still struggling to comprehend this.
User avatar #126 to #121 - trollchildxy (08/16/2012) [-]
Its just thinking of two vectors coinciding with eachother. A single direction vector, the movement of our solar system through the universe. Then the multiple orbits of each planet.

Though i suppose your probably not actually confused so explaining further might just be silly :)
User avatar #127 to #126 - hargleblarg (08/16/2012) [-]
I'm not confused, it's just having trouble processing in my brain. You always see the planets as orbiting in a 2D plane, so seeing it in 3D is a little mind-bending.
User avatar #128 to #127 - trollchildxy (08/16/2012) [-]
I see, i suppose I don't find it terribly mind bending since I love physics. First calculus class is next term yay!

But it is still really cool to think about haha.

I love space and planets and stuff, this is fascinating. Have fun with calculus!

Have a space-related wallpaper for stopping to chat with me.

the planet still revolves around the sun in a circular manner and the changing of seasons is only due to the axis tilt
User avatar #116 to #114 - hadrian (08/16/2012) [-]
Except that the Earth is tilted off it's rotational axis by 23 degrees, and that's what causes the seasons.
