It's evolutionary.

Men **** to have as many kids as possible, and more partners = more kids.
Women are actually just meant to look after the child, and hope the male stays.

User avatar #134 to #127 - deltadeltadelta (08/10/2012) [-]
People are a product of their environment and are easily influenced.

In the Southern US children are instilled with religion. You might say that because they don't believe in evolution that they're dumb, but they haven't been taught different, and if they are given the opportunity they're told to disregard it.

On MTV we see spoiled 16yo girls that have never been told no. They act like they deserve everything for doing nothing. It doesn't make them dumb. It's like giving bags of treats to a dog for no reason and then demanding it to perform tasks for no reward.

Knowledge ≠ Intelligence. Intelligence is inherent. Idiocy is subjective and opinion.

You shouldn't think of yourself superior to others.

The last time I made the argument that you are born with intelligence, and intelligence is only a capacity for learning knowledge, (all different types of knowledge, from conceptual to simple memorization to mechanical to name a few) people thumbed me down and said that studying makes kids smarter and that dumb people are dumb because they don't do well in school, instead of the other way around.

Thank you for making this argument better than I apparently was capable of making it.

I would say that a good quote would be:

I never said I was superior, I simply stated my opinion. The way you're raised and the environment you're raised in aren't the two sole factors that determine how intelligent you are. Events that occur in your life, the people you meet, the way you personally view things and process things, are some of the things that make up who you are and determine what you deem acceptable behavior. It isn't that people were raised in such ways that I have issue with, it's that they deem it an acceptable way to view things. People these days seem to be self-entitled and self absorbed brats that have been spoiled rotten, and they see nothing wrong with it.

You say that as if nobody judges anyone else, but they do. I'd be willing to bet that even you judge the actions of others. Unless you can truthfully say that you find the actions of another person neither offensive or wonderful, you have no right to take offense to my views of the general attitude I believe most people have these days.

I suppose my opinion can be viewed as judgement, though I prefer the term observation. Either way, whether it's regarded as observation or judgement, unless you can say you don't do it as well regardless of the subject in question, your statement is hypocritical.

And I think you're just saying that while avoided giving out any actual opinion due to wanting to avoid being accused of judging me. The truth is everyone judges, no exceptions. I don't need to know you. Exactly how did I prove your point? This is the internet, where anyone can make claims without needing to back it up, and where people can easily pretend things about them are true that aren't. It's not hard to make it seem like you don't judge, simply use non-descriptive words and reduce your statements to simple facts such as "You are right, I do not know you." much like what you've done in response to me. A few posts over the internet prove nothing.

#372 to #366 - chaoticwaffle (08/12/2012) [-]
Yet again it won't allow me to reply directly to your message, this is in response to #370.

Hate is a strong dislike, and disliking something, as I've already said, is different from intolerance. You say you don't judge, yet you call me intolerant, whether or not I gave you reason to believe I'm intolerent you decided that I am. That's a judgement, and because of that as long as you continue to say that you don't judge you only lose credibility.

Seeing as it won't let me reply to your message bemysenorita, I'll have to post this response as a reply to my earlier post.

My disliking the attitude of certain people doesn't mean I'm intolerant, I'm not out on a mission to eliminate them nor do I act out against them violently. Disliking something and being intolerant of something are two entirely different things.

The way you were posting you counted yourself among the superior, intelligent folk.

As I explained, that's nurture. It's how they were raised and conditioned, they don't know any different. It takes an awful lot to shake the only belief, lifestyle or values you've ever known. Children are highly impressionable. You're acting like Humans aren't animals, that they can't be so easily influenced, that they're born with critical thinking skills, that they all share the same experiences.

I'm vain, jaded, apathetic, unambitious, uncharismatic, emotionally detached and unable to maintain long-term relationships. Just because I was raised in a non-religious household with critical thinking skills and I wasn't handed everything on a silver platter doesn't mean that I'm intelligent.
#175 to #144 - chaoticwaffle (08/10/2012) [-]
Your nurturing is beside the point... nurture isn't the only thing that will determine how someone behaves, I already said that so your post serves no purpose. I never said humans weren't impressionable, I didn't even so much as imply it, considering one of my issues is that many people follow the same trend of acting as if common sense was never even something that existed. Most of the culture these days is absolute trash and people blindly follow it, acting like no decent human being would because it's "just the normal thing to do."
User avatar #186 to #175 - deltadeltadelta (08/10/2012) [-]
Nurture is how our environment influences us. Nature is the inherent. Those are the two thinks which determine who we are so I don't know what you're eluding to.

I don't mean to belittle your speech, but your narrative has consistently been the angsty teenager belief of "everyone is **** , but I'm special". You should keep in mind that the people you look down on may look down on you. You'll find no shortage of your peers in full agreement with what you've said.

My apologies if that's the tone I'm trying to express my thoughts with, but being special isn't exactly important to me. If people choose to look down on me then that's their choice, seeing as I have no control over what they think and vice versa.

I was never trying to argue what factors determine how a person learns and develops their personality and attitude, simply state that I personally disapprove of the general attitude of most people these days.

You do realize that "you are intolerant" is a judgement, right?

Just because I dislike a certain attitude doesn't mean I'm intolerant, it's ignorant to assume so.
#264 to #227 - anon (08/10/2012) [-]
"Humans are idiots.

At least most of them are."

I've bet you've never been outside your country, or region. You're judging certain people, probably from afar, since you would not talk to someone you deem intolerable. Once you judge them, you automatically assume "most humans are like this", hence your above statement. There are 7 billion people, assuming "most" would have to be higher then the median of humans, 3.5 billion, and I highly doubt you've met 3.5 billion people. How about you take a step of your high horse and stop judging. Those humans you dislike, are humans altogether. If you want to do something better than judging, how about you try to help them? Don't just talk about them on the internet.

#365 to #264 - chaoticwaffle (08/11/2012) [-]
I don't have to meet 3.5 billion people, you could consider those people that I've met and decided are idiots a sample size. When scientists research a certain subject and there's a large amount, or when researchers send out surveys, they don't do it all at once. They take a sample size and base their results off that.

Certain people act stupidly and immaturely, whether or not you think me judging them is okay is irrelevant. The amount of people that act in such a way is irrelevant. I never said ALL the people in the world act in such a way, just that most do. Going out and meeting every single person in the world would be tedious and serve no purpose because even if I did, and say you were right, that most of them aren't that idiotic, the fact is there will still be that large population that acts like that.

Either way my opinion is correct, regardless of the amount of people in question.
