While everyone talks about the overrated Zombie TV show, I just finished watching episode 5 of Z nation.

It is made by the same production house that made Sharknado and Sharknado 2, so this episode when there was a tornado, they made a joke about sharks and tornadoes

I repeat, I need nigga comedy
User avatar #25260 to #25256 - herecomesjohnny (10/12/2014) [-]
probably eddie murphy stuff. Trading Places, mostly.

Black people are funnier in standup comedy, really. Dave chappelle, murphy, chris rock, richard pryor, even donald glover did a good one.

anyone excited for Fury, Inherent Vice, Exodus: Gods and Kings, and the third Hobbit?
User avatar #25284 to #25249 - ljxjlos (10/13/2014) [-]
Pretty exited for the third Hobbit. I mean, they´re far from being as good as the Lord of the Rings movies and I had to watch it again with the mindset of it not having a thing to do with the books, but damn, they´re entertaining as hell.
User avatar #25278 to #25249 - syrenthra (10/13/2014) [-]
I'm excited for Fury, I love tanks and I like the take hey are doing on World War 2
User avatar #25275 to #25249 - thedudeistheman (10/13/2014) [-]
Also, Birdman.
User avatar #25272 to #25249 - thedudeistheman (10/13/2014) [-]
Fury looks pretty great. Inherent Vice looks awesome, PT Anderson is an excellent filmmaker. I want Exodus: Gods and Kings to be good. Looked a little Gladiator-esque, which I'd say is a good sign. Also excited for the third Hobbit film.
User avatar #25254 to #25249 - eight (10/12/2014) [-]
Fury, sort of, but I've never been a big war fan. I prefer swords to guns for entertainment.

Never heard of Inherent Vice.

Exodus: Gods and Kings, hell yes! Looks amazing. Even being an atheist, I can enjoy it as long as it's good fiction. But I fear that it will be another 'Noah'. 'Noah' had an excellent trailer after all, but the movie was utter shite, at least in my opinion.

The Hobbit, of course. Loved the other Hobbits. I'll mostly be sad that this will likely be the last time we see Middle Earth though, at least through Jacksons eyes..
User avatar #25262 to #25254 - awesomerninjathing (10/12/2014) [-]
I prefer swords as well, I loved The Last Samurai for example. I actually haven't watched many gun war movies

Just came back from seeing Annabelle
Honestly not as good as The Conjuring
Where The Conjuring showed us a lot of subtle scares with a great score to go a long with that; Annabelle has went the route of:
*everything's quiet* ... *DUN* spoopy thing jumps out of nowhere from where we didn't see it. There are a couple exceptions (like when you see the cultist and you see him just standing there as the main character backs up - that's scary shit)
But there were just a lot of suspenseful scenes that they decided to put a jump scare cut in rather than an effort into making it scary, not jumpy (the scene where the demon is on the stairs and it's sitting and watching her for about 10 seconds and it jumps to a close up of it screaming; it would've been so much better if they'd shown it slowly going towards her)

It definitely had it's good moments though; I liked the characters and acting, the cinematography, there are a lot of great creepy shots of Annabelle - but the shots lead up to very little; she is literally just there to be creepy, nothing else. Also there was one shot where we see the doll on the edge of frame with the room in the background, but it all just goes out of focus, including the doll; I have a hard time believing that the director and editor would actually approve it. I hope it was just something wrong with the film projector because there was seriously something stupid going on if it wasn't.
I also liked the general theme of sacrifice and family beyond the horror itself.

All in all, I'd say if you're a horror snob or something, don't waste your money on it - but like I said, it wasn't all bad and I liked a great deal of it - it just had some major failings like Annabelle not doing anything, or seeing too much of the demon - and for a woman who cares so much for her baby, the main character sure does leave the baby alone a lot. You don't leave a baby alone like that. Get your shit together, woman.

For those who have seen Salo:

Is it actually good, or is it just famous for being gross (a la A Serbian Film or The Human Centipede)? I doubt I'll be watching it anytime soon, I'm just curious.
User avatar #25251 to #25243 - eight (10/12/2014) [-]
It's sick and twisted in many ways. From the use of young-looking actors/actresses for implied under-age porn/torture porn/rape to the many gross and obscenities littered throughout like hidden razor blades in food and shit eating . And of course, you probably know how it ends. It's infamous after all.

Honestly, you could skip it. There's nothing new with Salo that you haven't seen individually elsewhere to a lesser degree. Everything wrong about the world is thrown into this one movie, given the name.

That said, it's interesting if you can stomach it, at least as a character study of psychopaths. How they interact with one another, how they view society, their political ideologies and their life stories. The kids are literally all plot-devices, only there to make you squint and turn your head only to be served up like sheep to a slaughter.
User avatar #25252 to #25251 - thedudeistheman (10/12/2014) [-]
I'll probably pass on it then. It's not often that violence turns me off in a film, but I can't usually stomach gross things, and I knew that once I heard about the shit eating I'd probably pass. I asked because if I heard it was really worth watching (because it's an excellent film, a landmark of cinema, etc.) I'd at least give it a shot.
User avatar #25253 to #25252 - eight (10/12/2014) [-]
Yeah, I wouldn't call it that by a mile. Though some would, probably.
User avatar #25258 to #25253 - thedudeistheman (10/12/2014) [-]
I've seen it listed as part of the Criterion Collection, and I figured those films usually have some cinematic significance. I'm sure Salo does in some way, but I'll still pass.

Doesn't seem to be a movie board so I'll ask here.

I watched Shawshank and it was awesome. I watched Fight Club and it was awesome.

Give me another obvious classic guaranteed to be excellent, please. Don't tell me anything about it, though. Just titles.

Watched the first episode of Fargo. I'm not sure I 'get' this show. It seems to try and be a mix between comedy and drama (or is the comedy unintentional?). It takes itself too seriously. And almost all the characters seem to have an IQ of less than 80 which really makes it annoying.
