Yeah, I just wasn't blown away by it. There were some things I thought it did really well, but I didn't leave all that impressed by more than the visuals.

Scene 1
Buffy walks in to the house and sees some flowers from Brian, that Joyce had a date with in the previous episode, calling for her mam only to find her dead on the sofa, breaking down and crying (not before a short segmant where we see the scoobies at a Christmas dinner with Joyce; mainly used as a way to not have the credits go over the actually emotional parts, but also to be a sort of "thinking of an odd unconnected moment when you're in such a situation"). She calls for an ambulance and the woman on the phone says to do CPR, and Buffy accidentally breaks a rib or something while doing it, and finds that the body is cold as well, telling the woman on the phone who says "The body's cold", and Buffy in denial says "N-No my MOM is cold". She hangs up, calls Giles, and just says "You need to come. She's at the house."
Just before the paramedics come in Buffy sort of oddly thinks about just her mother's dignity and pulls down her skirt.
The paramedics start to do CPR too, and we see into Buffy's mind and there's this whole "omg she just made it in time to the hospital, it's a miracle" sorta thing but we quickly flash back and we see Joyce is still dead, and the paramedics leave and say to wait for the morgue people.
Buffy is obviously distraught, she goes towards the kitchen and throws up on the way; opening the backdoor to the sounds of kids playing and just generally life still going on around the house, before coming back in, slowly getting some kitchen roll and cleaning up the mess. Giles comes in thinking that Glory had come to the house, seeing Joyce and starting to try CPR (again) but Buffy, again in a state of shock shouts "We're not supposed to disturb THE BODY!" and breaks down in tears at what she just said, and Giles comforts her.
Scene 2
Dawn is crying in the girls bathroom because some guy called her "freaky", and also finds out another girl in her class has been spreading rumours about her cutting herself (which, you know, she did do due to the whole "holy fuck I don't exist" thing - but really shitty of a person to be joking and spreading about)
She goes to her art class (that has a super pretentious teacher talking about "you aren't drawing the object, you're drawing the negative space around the object") and she ends up next to this boy she has a crush on, and he ends up being all like "hey, about you cutting yourself, I understand, sometimes things get emotional" and Dawn's all like "score! I should cut myself more often!"
Then Buffy walks in, takes Dawn out of class and tells her, Dawn doesn't believe her but breaks down in tears in front of the whole class (so embarrassing!)
Scene 3
Xander and Anya are driving to Willow and Tara's to pick them up - Willow is freaking out because she wants to be supportive of Buffy but she's worried about what to wear, saying that Joyce "really like the blue" but she can't find the blue, and she keeps changing, and like everyone, breaks down in tears and Tara comforts her.
When Xander and Anya arrive, Anya keeps asking inappropriate questions like "Are we going to see the body?" and Willow is all like "Fuck sake Anya stop being so rude", but then Anya now breaks down as well and we see the only reason she's asking is because she really doesn't understand. She can't even grasp it, and she doesn't like that Joyce won't enjoy fruit punch again because she was having fruit punch when she found out. Willow shuts her mouth because she realises she was being a bit of a bitch, and they all just kinda sit in silence until Xander punches the wall and we have a moment of levity as they try to get him out, and they finally leave (Anya picked up the blue that was under a cushion and put in the cupboard during the scene)
CONT.

Scene 4
They're all at the morgue, and the doctor says it must have been a complication with the surgery that Joyce was apparently completely aware could happen, he says that there was probably no pain but we see in Buffy's mind him saying "I have to lie to you to make you feel better"
We see a nice moment between Buffy and Tara which we don't see much of until Season 6, where Tara tells Buffy about how she lost her mother when she was 18, commenting that it wasn't sudden, but that it also was sudden at the same time. Dawn keeps asking to see the body (I think almost still not believing it) and sneaks off to see it, but there's a vampire in there too (and he's naked to boot; awkward!) until Buffy comes in looking for her and kills the vampire, and the sheet covering Joyce falls off. Dawn, staring at her mother's corpse, asks, "Is she cold?" and Buffy says that it isn't their mother anymore.
The final shot is of Joyce's body, as Dawn's hand goes out to touch her face, but a split second before it comes into contact, it cuts to black.

There's probably little things I missed, but that's the general gist.

that dawn trapped episode came out of nowhere. i remember thinking. when did this happen? there was no setup to this except for a single line in the musical where she says "does anybody even notice"

I don't think it came out of nowhere exactly. We see this sort of lead up where she's stealing stuff every now and then, then there was that thing with her friend Janice and those two vampire boys. She's going all bad girl mainly for attention - but for the most part I'm just watching thinking "holy fuck i don't care."
Then Buffy turning invisible and Dawn getting freaked because Buffy was taking it too lightly, and the whole thing with Willow's magic addiction and how that nearly got Dawn killed.
So like I say, it's not exactly out of nowhere, it's just a really pointless fucking storyline. The episode before this she was like "omg you were happier in that other place before you came back weren't you?!"
She was in Heaven, you silly little cunt. You can't get much happier than genuine Heaven.
In this episode everyone wants to leave because they all fucking have lives, like everyone else. Then Dawn is like "yeah, because you can't stand being stuck here WITH ME, can you?!"
Well sure, if you fucking act like that - why would they want to be around you? It's just it doesn't feel like such a big deal because they all already have these talks with Dawn where they promise they love her, and they keep showing it to her but because they all can't be around her 24/7 she's "lonely" and "depressed". It's fucking stupid

dawn did get pretty hot though. Eurotrip was nice. but yeah her power was basically negated after season 5. AFter that there was nothing for her.

i agree the musical was great the kiss i liked but when i saw the beginning of the next episode that kinda ruined a lot of the season for me when she started being a bitch basically. I liked Tabula Rasa though where everyone forgets who they are.

One thing I didn't get til recently is Joss snuck a sex joke in that Tara song. you make me CUMplete. you make me CUMplete. i never understood why willow's head went down before.

The best song for me was Rest in Peace. And Anthony Stewart Head has a good singing voice

Massively. I loved his song in the episode with the First Slayer. Also when he sang Behind Blue Eyes, jesus that was so good.

That was one of the things I really liked about it as a musical on it's own. It does all the things a good musical should do, a great example is Tara's "I'm Under Your Spell" where she's talking about just how Willow has improved her life and made things better, and how much she loves her - but then she realises that she's literally under a spell and it becomes a statement of sorrow and anger rather than love.
Plus, Amber Benson is fantastic too. I haven't seen her in anything else and didn't know about her singing, so I only associate her with this character really - so seeing this amazing voice come from the really quiet girl who stutters was just great, and loved her reprise being mixed in with Giles' song. That's another great thing that good musicals do, where two characters are singing the same lines but meaning different things; "I wish I could stay" - for Tara it's that she feels betrayed by Willow and can't stay, but for Giles he sees that Buffy is relying on him too much, and can't stay to help even though that's all he actually wants to do. Fucking A. For all the things wrong with the last seasons, it does have some great episodes just spattered about.

It was the one episode of the season Joss Whedon personally took charge of. i remember Xena had a musical episode but that was all covers. buffy actually had original songs which i respected. Also I'm gonna take a guess and say you liked Anya's bunny rant solo lol.

south park episode about musicals was great. musicals are designed to have subtext to make your girl give you head. i guess it was true with tara

the lyrics were great too. And really loved the demon Sweet. His song is actually underratedly catchy

Eh, I can't dictate what you like. If you found it boring fair enough. It does have moments of humour and levity though; "Xander decided he blames the wall"
I just find it sad for well... The obvious reasons; I definitely cry at it more now after the people I've lost and stuff too. Anya's breakdown is always the bit that gets me the worst.

I also just like it as a film student - the whole no musical score thing, along with the use of more ambient sound and the camera angle choices of what it chooses to focus on and everything like that equalling to the unsettling feeling of it (Whedon talks about it in the audio commentary)

This isn't me saying "Look! See! It's good! Do you like it now?!" I'm just explaining why I like it.

My least favourite episode myself is the Hyena people episode in season 1.
I don't know exactly what it is about it... I know the early episodes were always a tad "after school special" with their messages (though, everyone knows that was the point; "weekly monsters that are metaphors for real life high school stuff") but that one was just a little too after school-special...y for me. It's actually the only episode I tend to skip if I'm watching Buffy again.

Yeah, intro to Spike and Drusilla was great.
It's not my least favourite season, but one thing I kind of didn't like about the last season is how on the nose it is.
Like, we already understand the message; she's a badass chick and female empowerment yay!
But they just take all pretence out of it with that woman hating woman killer, who just hates women and loves killing the women he hates, and that engraving that says something like "The power is not yours, it is her's alone" when referring to that badass axe/stake weapon
Other than that I thought it was a good season, and I love Nathan Fillion and he acts the part greatly. It's just whenever he's on screen all I can think is "okay we get it! He's a sexist and Buffy's a powerful female, we get it!"
But at least he's just a secondary villian, really.

i felt the equality of the show was great in earlier seasons. later seasons they definitely did the female power gig.

although one demon i liked in season 7 was that hannibal lector type demon, he was good and creepy. Season 7 had some of the creepier scenes in the show imo which i appreciated

I didn't mind the exact end of it though, the whole "passing of power to all potential slayers" thing, that was just kind of subtle enough to still be okay... it was just the lead up to it that was a drag and made it too obvious from the start. If I just generally ignore that part, and focus on the end I don't mind it.
Also, they killed off Anya... Those bastards!

well season 5 finale was billed as a series finale. the first 5 seasons was made on the WB channel. The last 2 seasons were made on a different channel called upn (these 2 channels eventually merged to form the current CW channel)

the last 2 seasons had a completely different tone. I remember season 6 thinking (wow are they really having episodes of a vampire slayer working at a fast food place?"

if i had to rank the seasons i'd go

2
3
1
5

Season 6 also opens up a slew of questions I've only just noticed now.
They keep up continuity by using the headstone that was the final shot of Season 5... But then they're using the BuffyBot to make it seem like Buffy is alive to both the human world and demon world...
Then why give her a grave stone with her name, dress her like there was a proper funeral and pay for a casket for her? It's a pretty big fucking giveaway.
I'm only on episode 3, but I think this is the season Anya becomes a vengeance demon again, and again; more questions.
Why is it bothering her this time? Sure you can claim it's because of Xander, but she had became a demon once and "lost" her humanity, which I assumed also just meant her soul, which I always assumed she got back when she became human again - so does she have her soul again now while still being a demon? If so, then D'Hoffryn is a massive cunt for not taking her soul this time and making her feel bad about it...

the soul thing is what screwed up the last seasons. like Clem really bugged me (he's that saggy skinned nice demon with like doggy ears that babysat dawn one time) he's just a regular guy who happened to be a demon. that's not how demons work. demons aren't comedy. when they did stuff like that it really hurt the show. anya getting her powers but keeping her soul was definitely a plot hole imo

I honestly think Dawn's the worst fucking thing in Season 6.
In Season 5 she was kind of annoying just from a general "this character is meant to be a bit of an awkward clutz" and I could see why she was annoying to Buffy but I didn't mind her - plus the character did have a lot of shit to go through, all of that existential crisis of finding out you didn't really exist until a few months prior, everything in your life being a fabrication. That's like holy fuck for a 14 year old.
This season she's like "Wah wah no one has any time for me!"
I'm on that episode on Buffy's birthday where they're all trapped in the house because of Dawn's wish, and Dawn is just being a major cunt. They're all trapped, and some guy even got fucking stabbed by a demon and he needs a doctor and they can't leave and Buffy asks Dawn if she's okay and she's like "Do you even care?!"
Holy fuck, get your priorities straight girl. They're proper playing it up for sympathy for Dawn "awww poor Dawn being left behind when everyone has lives, awww!"
omg i don't care go away become a ball of energy again and go away

After fininishing season 5 now, I think that'd would honestly just been the best place to end it.
They make a big deal about how a Slayer's fate is inevitable; that they'll die and the next is called. Why does Buffy have the special treatment of coming back from death twice?
I didn't mind the stuff she went through in Season 6 after being ripped from Heaven. That was still a pretty awesome storyline imo, but just ending at Season 5 seems like such a good way to go tbh

Actually fucking loved that gotham episode, one of the best yet IMO.

I guess its kind of cheap that the bought back Jerome from the dead, but then again he is such a good character, why the fuck not. HE genuinely seems like a younger version of heath ledgers joker, which is fantastic

Well I heard that in the books (or the old movie idk for sure) that there was a Roman World and a Medieval world. Not sure if it's true or not, just saw in the comments somewhere on FB

Believe it or not, I enjoyed Episode 6 of TWD more than I thought I would. At least it had tension and zombie action. Heath is alright. They should give him more to do.

Still completely filler. Could be skipped without missing a single thing. I cannot respect that.

TWD is a show that you really can't watch week to week

it's incredibly frustrating waiting an entire week to watch an episode about Tara washing up on lesbo island

So I feel this is the best board to go to for movies
anyone see "Don't Breathe" yet?
I liked it a lot, but could have done without a part. She made him eat his own semen, eww

I really enjoyed it, one of the better wide-release horror movies in recent years.

I liked that part. Not for the shock value, but it seemed fitting.

I really hope this whole 4-show crossover thing still makes sense if I don't watch the Supergirl portion of it.
