I don't understand why bloodbending is so hard to resist... There is water in you, which is why bloodbending is possible, but there are other things too, like iron and oxygen are in blood, so... wouldn't everyone but firebenders be able to bloodbend? or at least resist it?
#43 to #41 - AlexWuzHere (06/11/2012) [-]
There is far more water in the body than pure oxygen (IE not H2O) or iron (as there is apparently "enough iron to make a nail").
User avatar #44 to #43 - megayeroc (06/11/2012) [-]
Even with that, Could it not be possible to use those small amounts to resist bloodbending? Even if you could not preform it?
#45 to #44 - AlexWuzHere (06/11/2012) [-]
With just the iron? Definitely not. It'd be nearly impossible to detect in sucha small quantity. The air? Maybe, but there are no airbenders who have ever been trained or tried to resist bloodbending with airbending. Even then, they wouldn't be bending the same thing, they couldn't just stop the bloddbenders bending, and it seems like it'd be dangerous to mess with the oxygen in your own lungs and blood to resist bending you can't see.
User avatar #47 to #45 - megayeroc (06/11/2012) [-]
But it could be between trying to bend your own oxygen, or dying anyway, I'd try anything, even if I couldn't see it, and as you said it may be possible, and you tell Toph how hard it is to bend things you can't see XD
#49 to #47 - anon (06/11/2012) [-]
I think it would be possible for another water bender to resist, but as for any other elements they be screwed
User avatar #50 to #49 - megayeroc (06/11/2012) [-]
It's obviously possible for another waterbender to resist, Katara did it
User avatar #84 to #50 - pwnaged (06/11/2012) [-]
Katara resisted it because she was a bloodbender, not because she was a water bender. She blood bent Hama to get control over the situation and save Aang and Sokka. When she blood bent Hama, Hama stop blood bending.
User avatar #86 to #84 - megayeroc (06/11/2012) [-]
But if you're a good water bender, Can't you become a bloodbender... You don't get born into it like it's Earth, Water or fire right? It's learned?
User avatar #88 to #86 - pwnaged (06/11/2012) [-]
This is true, but is Amon a bender? If you only take the events of the show into consideration, he probably is not.
User avatar #89 to #88 - megayeroc (06/11/2012) [-]
I never said Amon is a bender of any sort, I personally believe Amon is a new person and is not someone we already know, I don't know how he resisted, that we'll find out in time.
User avatar #90 to #89 - pwnaged (06/11/2012) [-]
I misunderstood the question, my bad. Blood bending is a specialty of water benders, such as metal bending to earth benders and lightning to fire. So it IS learned, but you have to be born a water bender.
User avatar #91 to #90 - megayeroc (06/11/2012) [-]
Yes, I know, I'm sure Korra could learn it in time
User avatar #92 to #91 - pwnaged (06/11/2012) [-]
I'm not sure that the Avatar can learn these techniques. Show creators won't do it for balance reasons probably.
User avatar #93 to #92 - megayeroc (06/11/2012) [-]
Maybe...... It would make sense, Aang couldn't bloodbend
#175 to #93 - AlexWuzHere (06/12/2012) [-]
Aang invented soundbending, which is advanced airbending. So the Avatar can use the advanced techniques. We've never seen him perform bloodbending because it's illegal. Metalbending was only recently invented. As far as we know, he was never trained lightningbending besides the redirection technique. Given that they were at war with the fire nation and then trying to build a city, it isn't surprising Aang didn't learn it (on camera at least) in the series.
User avatar #176 to #175 - megayeroc (06/12/2012) [-]
I'm saying he didn't learn it, in the series ATLA

If spoilers for shows you couldn't be assed to watch when they come out bother you, don't go on the internet. Especially not FJ, in the cases of ponies and Avatar.

Does anyone remember that episode were katara learned to blood bend by that crazy old lady? Well just before she made aang get his **** stabbed by sokkas sword Katara resisted the bloodbend and bloodbended herself...maybe she knows how to resist it & taught Zuko it, for some reason i really think this is zukos kid.
User avatar #38 to #29 - kirluu (06/11/2012) [-]
Katara, as said by anonymous before me, resisted blood bending from the old lady using her own blood bending to stop hers.

Personally, I think that Amon is Aang's son born without bending powers, however who someone managed to inherit some of the benefits from the Avatar, such as removing people's bending, but also to have sort of a built in, minimalistic Avatar State which somewhat makes bending almost useless against him.
Now, why did he become Amon, the bending-hater? Obviously because he was the only child of the Avatar who was born without any bending powers. Other than him there was Tenzin, Airbender and Aang's daughter who can water-bend (As far as I know based on episode 1 I believe). He grew up watching his siblings improve on their bending abilities every day, and came to hate the entire concept of bending, somehow discovered his ability to remove people's bending, and now uses it to try and cleanse the world of all bending because it supresses non-benders such as himself - only he of course is a bit of an evolved non-bender somewhat, with his resistance of manepulative bending and his ability to remove bending from benders.

That is my theory so far, at least. :3
User avatar #52 to #38 - firesale (06/11/2012) [-]
Also he is very calm what could Aang have teached him since he is an air nomad. And the knowledge about waterbending he could have goten from katara. (You don't need to be waterbender to resist bloodbending. You just need to have perfect knowledge about it.) And also he uses Waterbendermoves while he is fighting.
#37 to #29 - anon (06/11/2012) [-]
katara resisted her thanks to her skills and knowledge in bloodbending and waterbending

and if i recall correctly she used her own blood/water bending to resist it

amon isn't really a bad person
he is actually a good person, cause he doesn't want to start war or whatever, he just wants to be in a world where nobudy can bend and where everybody is 'the same'

His ideology is good, but he's an extremist. He wants to completely destroy bending. If he just wanted equality, he'd just convince the council to add some non benders to the council instead of just benders. But his views are for the greater good.

User avatar #46 to #39 - xodia (06/11/2012) [-]
Well, I've heard a few ideas of how Amon was attacked by the fire bender that killed his parents, and that he also attacked him and maybe injured his body badly, and that he's now a platinum cyborg
