i thought you were asking for music for when u do rub crotches with someone

and i went with that because i remember seeing a comment on a shlohmo song that said

"shlohmo makes baby makin music" and i laughed at that and it's just kind of stuck with me

Anyone know where to get hard to find music for free? Like underground bands that aren't anywhere near mainstream? Been trying to find some of The Real People albums, but can't do it. Only their first is usually listed.

User avatar #110812 to #110728 - fukkendragonite (05/03/2014) [-]
Grew up on nu metal and loved it. Bottom line.
User avatar #110790 to #110728 - darksideofthebeast (05/03/2014) [-]
My biggest problem with it is the fans and the edginess it tries to achieve.
Metal doesn't have to be about that outcast kid who goes and murders thousands of people like the kids who listen to it assume they are.

It's quite annoying and I find the music distasteful.
But to each their own.
User avatar #110864 to #110790 - drldrl (05/04/2014) [-]
The Sickness by Disturbed, probably one of the best nu metal albums, is not about that at all. The meaning behind their name and this album, is about being disturbed by these horrible things in our society. How people manipulate, beat others down, and have no care for one another. Disturbed has always been a band that has great meaning in their songs. I wish people could see that before going "Oh, it's nu metal, it's total shit."
User avatar #110870 to #110864 - darksideofthebeast (05/04/2014) [-]
But nu metal is just widely known for being shit.
User avatar #110871 to #110870 - drldrl (05/04/2014) [-]
So is rap, electronic, a lot of metal genres, and country.
But there's still good stuff in all of them.
User avatar #110872 to #110871 - darksideofthebeast (05/04/2014) [-]
Your point being?

I don't like much of those genres either, not that I don't respect some of the art that those genres and nu metal bands put out.
Such as slipknot, they COULD make REALLY good stuff, but they let their talent waste away.

No true passion for the music.
They have a lot more skill than they produce in songs and I know it, why can't they take time to be creative and in depth?

Slipknot is an example, but most nu metal bands are like this.
User avatar #110873 to #110872 - drldrl (05/04/2014) [-]
I just gave you one band, Mudvayne is a good example too. Both lyrics and instrument parts are pretty damn good. I've considered their bassist one of the best around for a while.
But you don't really get the point of the genre, do you? It's a release for anger. There's really nothing better out there to mosh to. It gives a smooth, steady stream of heavy beats that make you just wanna move. When you start to get really technical in your music, you lose that.
User avatar #110874 to #110873 - darksideofthebeast (05/04/2014) [-]
I'll listen to a mudvayne song.
And also, I understand that.
That is why I said "To each their own" long before this comment thread.

If you like prog metal you can probably like them, the guitarist just isn't the one that does all the cool shit.

Also, Death Blooms would probably be the best song to listen to, forgot about that one.
User avatar #110878 to #110877 - darksideofthebeast (05/04/2014) [-]
I am not going to lie at all.

That was... Pretty damn good (not falling)
I thought the drummer was good, I thought the guitarist was good, I thought their bassist was great. And the singing... That's something I can't judge until I hear more.
I did enjoy the progressive vibe a lot.
I am a progressive metal fan though.

User avatar #110853 to #110852 - kaisakuenkou (05/03/2014) [-]
Still edgy, but my point is 'too edgy' is not a valuable argument when your favourite bands are pretty edgy
User avatar #110854 to #110853 - darksideofthebeast (05/03/2014) [-]
It's too edgy as in it has no real meaning other than rape or murder.
Sure, some of the stuff I listen to involves that. But typically, nu metal just REVOLVES around that idea.

At least what I've heard.
User avatar #110851 to #110850 - darksideofthebeast (05/03/2014) [-]
Disgustipated is a bit edgy, I'll give you that one.
But I would not judge tools edginess off of Undertow, because that album is pure edge.

The rest, aeinma has a bit edge, but nothing else.

The band grew up and that is a big part of why I like their music too.

User avatar #110765 to #110764 - charac (05/03/2014) [-]
I only got them a couple of weeks ago so my I can't say too much yet.
The ribbon tweeter seems alright thus far though the speakers overall seem like they don't have the best midrange. The lows and highs definetely feel stronger. Might have to play around with the speakers a bit.
But for the price you definetely get a decent pair of speakers. Not great but decent.
User avatar #110766 to #110765 - kaitora (05/03/2014) [-]
Yeah they are really really really cheap. Ribbons usually have a very strong output, but a lot cleaner than domes, so many say it's way less fatiguing.
User avatar #110767 to #110766 - charac (05/03/2014) [-]
Haven't used them for more than one hour of continued listening so I don't know about the fatigue thing. But they definetely have a strong output.
Maybe someday I'll get a pair of really nice speakers Adam A7x or Neumann KH 120, they are probably my favourite sounding speakers. Or at least I can dream about it looking at the price tag.
User avatar #110768 to #110767 - kaitora (05/03/2014) [-]
Ah man, Adam's are fucking great. A guy I know changed his Genelec speakers to Adams. His problem was fatigue, he does monitoring and mixing for work. I also had the Genelec 8240A's before what I have now, and I totally understand why he changed. They were very nice, bloody accurate, but studio speakers just weren't my thing. Never owned anything with ribbons, but used to work at this hi-fi store, we imported this brand called DALI, and most of their products had both domes and ribbons and I learned to love their treble response.

8040 is close to what I had, but the 8240 had built in DSP room correction.
User avatar #110770 to #110768 - charac (05/03/2014) [-]

Avenged Sevenfold - Heretic Megadeth - Symphony Of Destruction - Lyrics What's you guys' stance on rip offs? I feel perfectly comfortable listening to and declaring my enjoyment if they rip off something I already like, but I don't tend to think very highly of the artist.

The album is good, but not better than Nightmare.

I like Megadeth, and that song sounds like Megadeth. Therefore I like that song. It really is that simple for me

Rammstein Engel (Official Video) HD
Bit too close here too simply since it's the same genre you know?

Actually, for this one.. You could kinda say that it's a split rip off.
The chorus in Engel goes "God knows I don't want to become an angel"
And this one
they sing
"Angels, we won't become any angels."
And it's on the same fucking album.
So, yeah, it's a pretty bad rip on this one but I still fucking love the songs so to your answer: It does not deny me any enjoyment but I can say that it's .. kinda.. ripped.

Not just the same genre, but the title is in the same langauge and it sounds the same. So here it's basically just a rip off.

Shining - Neka Morgondagen
I don't mind
Silencer - The Slow Kill In The Cold
I love both Shining and Silencer, but it's a bit too close.
I mean, at least in your case they are completely different genres.
Silencer, being the pioneers of dbm, even though Shining started before them, even have mutual members. Leere from Silencer played for Shining after he recorded this album. The song I linked was created after The Slow Kill in the Cold though. So, it's a bit of a close shave and it might not be a coincidence, but iirc, leere left before the album with Neka Morgondagen was created.

I feel like Avenged Sevenfold really wanted to get back to what they grew up with and continue that experimentation they've been doing since City of Evil.

I don't see the songs on Hail to the King as rip offs, but more like tributes. Each one sounds like a different band. I believe they said they wanted to get sounds similar to some of the bands that influenced them in this album, while still putting their twist on it.

Their twist is they've got a different vocalist?

The end sounds far different than anything Megadeth would do. Dave is far too up his own ass to let another guitarist do a solo.

The solo on symphony-the song sevenfold ripped off from megadeth- is by Friedman. Plus, they also ripped off Metallica, Slayer, Zeppelin, GnR...
