Lo-Fang - Every Night man this guy's music is weird

I haven't really found anything from him that sounds like the first song, it sounded like normal wanna-be The Weeknd except not as dark and more poppy

and yet on this, at the 3 minute mark, he does some noisy shit that dissolves into a cello/violin

it's kinda cool

I saw Manchester Orchestra, Balance and Composure, and Kevin Devine (playing with The Goddamn Band), and went to Warped, and saw I Fight Dragons, Four Year Strong, Brian Marquis, Echosmith, Real Friends, The Protomen, The Story So Far, and a few others, I think.

I met Alan Day before FYS played. I picked up a copy of Rise or Die Trying and asked if he could sign it, and he said yes, which was cool. I was having trouble getting that tape off the top of the CD, and he showed me this trick where you just pop the cover off, and he slid the booklet out and signed it. Not the coolest thing in the world, but he seemed really down to Earth and was a really nice guy.
User avatar #139364 to #139261 - ljxjlos (12/30/2014) [-]
Eh...

Sage Francis, Meat Loaf, La Dispute, Deez Nuts, Terror, Emmure, Aerosmith, Dillinger Escape Plan, Rise of the Northstar, Marmozets, BmtH, Linkin Park, Skindred, Crossfaith, Drones, Offspring, Flogging Molly, Opeth, Letlive., Thy Art is Murder, Status Quo, Twisted Sister, Bury Tomorrow, Snoop Dogg, Polar, Heart in Hand, Suicide Silence, Sepultura, Sabaton, Architects, Being as an Ocean, Callejon, Death Before Dishonor, Eskimo Callboy, Possessed, Hundreth, Madball, Nails, Long Distance Calling, Motörhead, Protest the Hero, Stick to your Guns, The Ocean,...

Especially Dillinger Escape Plan, La Dispute, Marmozets, Rise of the Northstar, Crossfaith and Polar are notable because those concerts where fucking intense.

Sage Francis was hands down the best act I´ve had the luck to catch live, rap or any other genre. It was fucking fantastic.

All in all, as always, too much metal, rock and hardcore and too few rap, indie, alternative, folk, postrock, etc, etc - sadly, it´s hard to find anything great touring in my area other then metal and hardcore. Pretty fucking annoying, tbh.

www.nomachetejuggling.com/2011/11/11/the-star-wars-saga-suggested-viewing-order/
Lol, here's a whole article somebody wrote about it. It made sense to me. I like to watch them in that way and watch Episode I before I do it so there's a little separation. They all seem to flow even better without it stuck in there.

Oh my fucking god I deleted my long ass reply FUCK.

Jesus Christ I wanna shoot myself... I was saying a lot of important stuff...

Basically, I understand it better now, but only as a tool for someone who's never seen it before; as a veteran of Star Wars, I'm content with watching it in Episode form.

Also, I understand if you don't like Episode II, as there's a lot of bs in it, but I love the ending battle scenes so much, same with Episode I. Also, I never understand the unbridled hate for Jar-Jar; he's comic relief, same as uhhhh FUCKING C-3P0 and R2-D2 in the original movies. It baffles me that no one realizes that those are parallel characters, but NOOOO C-3P0 and R2 are fucking FINE, great characters. Fuck outta here. Not saying Jar-Jar is amazing, but if he ruins a movie for you, then 3P0 and R2 should ruin all of the originals for you by that logic.
User avatar #139206 to #139205 - themagicwizard (12/29/2014) [-]
He offends my Jamaican heritage. Not that I have any, but if I did, I would be furious!

Yeah, I dunno how some people let Jar Jar ruin the movie(s) for them. Jar Jar does serve a purpose in Episode I, and then he kinda disappears. I don't personally like him as a character and I think C-3PO and R2-D2 were much better, but he doesn't really affect my enjoyment of the movies that much.

I still like that order for watching the movies in general. It just seems to work better to present the whole series than any other way. The 5 or 6 movies feel more like parts of one story than if you watched the 2 trilogies separately. I guess it just feels like more of an immersive experience than the alternatives.

I GUESS IF YOU WANNA FEEL THAT WAY THAT'S FINE

Guess I never really thought about it before, but it doesn't bother me too much. Then again, I never really have watched them all in order in a short period of time, so I never got the chance to see what's best. YOU KNOW HEH.

User avatar #139193 to #139192 - ultrablue ONLINE (12/29/2014) [-]
It's been on my mind a lot lately. My friend and I have been rewatching the extended versions of the movies recently (currently on the 3rd one) and then we're gonna rewatch the first two Hobbit movies and then go straight to the theater to watch the new one.
User avatar #139195 to #139193 - themagicwizard (12/29/2014) [-]
The Hobbit movies seemed way lower quality than the LotR ones. Still, I'm not sure if I want to sit the new one out or not. I did see the first 2 in theaters and I enjoyed the 2nd one a little more than the first. We'll see. Have fun mang, I wish I had some friend who would be up for that. I'm going to try and convince some of them to do a Star Wars movie marathon before Episode VII next year. I'm so ready for that.

I'm going to re-watch the LotR extended trilogy very soon. Those are some of my favorite movies of all time. I dunno when I'll pick up another Tolkien book after my overload this summer, though. It was glorious.
User avatar #139196 to #139195 - ultrablue ONLINE (12/29/2014) [-]
No, I totally agree, the Hobbit movies aren't even on the same level as LotR. Too much CGI, like seriously. I was glad to see a lot of people on certain youtube videos agree with me about that.. just looks way to fake in a lot of parts and it really takes away from the movie. That said, I'd still like to watch them again, I've only seen the first two in theaters and I still wanna check the third.

Definitely need to get on the books train though. Once I whittle down my pile of books I have yet to read, then I'll get to Tolkein's shit.

Oh and speaking of marathoning Star Wars, a few years back, me and the same friend I'm talking about went to visit another friend at college and we tried to marathon all 6 Star Wars movies... problem is we started at midnight lol. We only got through like 2 and a half of the prequels before everyone fell asleep. Still need to retry that again soon. Before the new movie comes out would definitely be an ideal time, good thinking.
User avatar #139197 to #139196 - themagicwizard (12/29/2014) [-]
You have to do them in machete order, shit's nerdy as fuck but it's objectively shibe mode engaged the best way to marathon them:
IV - V - (I) - II - III - VI
Episode I is optional because it a.) kinda sucks, and b.) takes away from Anakin's image as an angsty dude on the path to the dark side.

That order preserves the Vader twist from the original trilogy and the Palpatine twist from the prequel trilogy. Plus you get to start with the first movie released, and finish with the last film in the Star Wars film timeline.

User avatar #139272 to #139107 - arcticassassin (12/29/2014) [-]
You know, this is actually pretty good.
It's strong, yet gentle.
You made this?
User avatar #139307 to #139272 - dragonicangel (12/30/2014) [-]
Yes. I'm working on a soundtrack for a book a friend of mine is writing, and this is one of the "themes" that I've done so far. What does it sound like, and make you envision?
User avatar #139341 to #139307 - arcticassassin (12/30/2014) [-]
It sounds like the beginning is a struggle, yet a victorious one.
I imagine...
A group of men, fighting side by side. There are other groups like them, but they lasted the longest. They clash swords and shields, striking blows and blocking strikes, fighting to be alive. They push and push, leading the charge against the enemy.
Then the string-instrument sounds come in.
One of them falls, then another, and another. As the fourth collapses, his head rolls lifelessly, looking towards his comrades.
Yet they push on with great strength, striking back with twice the power of the finishing blows made to their allies. They are losing great numbers of men, but they claim victory when their foes retreat.
However, a man sits alone, bloodied by battle.
He was left behind.
Forgotten.
Alone.
As the song ends, he hesitantly closes his eyes.
He hopes his family will know how he died.
User avatar #139372 to #139341 - dragonicangel (12/30/2014) [-]
YES. That was pretty much what I was going for. This was to personify a character who went through many hardships to become a ruler, and is a tired old man waiting for something to change. He is a defeated king. It's supposed to be the introduction of him and his family. I like yours better though.
User avatar #139404 to #139372 - arcticassassin (12/31/2014) [-]
Both situations (battle and king) focus on a defeated protagonist, so the song could be used in either situation.

I can see it, though.
A king in his dusty cape and dull crown. He sits in an empty room, alone.
There are paintings on the wall depicting great masses he lead in victorious charges.
Alongside those, there are even more detailed portraits of those he lost.
When he isn't busy with what little duty he has, he stares at the pictures and wishes he could turn back time.
They taunt him.
Glory and fame, all swept away by the tide of a new age.
User avatar #139537 to #139404 - dragonicangel (12/31/2014) [-]
Yup. Wait till you hear the rest of the themes I'm creating for the book. I might even send you the book for better understanding.

I'm looking to expand my musical horizon. Of course, I've mostly listened to metal, so more suggestions in that particular genre are welcome, but anything outside that would be very much appreciated. Whichever genre, just suggest the artists and I'll look them up, or you can since the point of the thread is diversifying music genres in general, not just my own.
Lorde would be a pretty obvious one.
The Mars Volta and Wax Fang would be ones I don't know if they're that well known but I highly recommend them.
Feel free to suggest anything, from rap to kpop (please no kpop, though)

tl;dr: artists you wouldn't hear on the radio and think deserve more attention. Let's expand our musical preferences.

Nexda - Untitled Oh my god I found this old dutch band not too long ago, and I fucking love them. They make some grim post-punk that verges on being experimental rock, and it's just so unique and so good. It's highly inaccessible, but holy shit some of their stuff is so good. Especially this song, it's usually 23 minutes, but divided into three sections, and this is easily the best section. Really minimal, I just love it so much. 5/5
Klaus Mitffoch - Jezu, jak się cieszę (HD) Another post-punk band, this time much more accessible. They only released one album that I know of, but fuck is it a masterpiece. It's a simple album, and there seems to be only one apparent sound throughout, and that is dark, dancy, post-punk. Now, I know a lot of people can't speak polish, I actually can't I admit to it pie I CAN'T , but I think that adds a mysterious vibe to it. Which I think is one of my favorite qualities of Klaus Mitffoch.
Песенка о святости, мыше и камыше Last band I'll recommend, Егор и Опизденевшие. Another post-punk band, i have a sick obsession with the genre, this time it's a Russian band. I just don't know how to describe it, psychedelic noise post-folk punk? This band has it's own sound, and it's amazing. Their album, Прыг-скок, is one of my favorite albums of all time. Every song is a bit different than the last and it has such a nice sense of melody that I actually find it getting stuck in my head a lot. It's experimental but also pop, I guess I could say.

I recommend post-punk to everybody, I don't expect everyone to like it, but it seems to be one of those genres where if you like it, you LOVE it. I certainly love it, it's my favorite genre and I know a lot about it. It's sound can range from really dance-y, pop rock like Talking Heads to some extremely experimental, brooding stuff like Mass. It's such a diverse genre that may take some time to get into. But if you can get into it, you will love it.
