Nope, I actually got an EP of his, Ladies & Ladies from this guy I know like a month or 2 ago. I'm just listening to it again right now and it sounded like something you'd dig.

I definitely do. Some awesome bangin ass beats. Will have to check out an album fully now that you've recommended it too.

Remember I showed you this? sparkwoodrecords.bandcamp.com/album/n-1

Well, I like... really love it. I've been playing it a lot lately, and I just got through listening to the whole thing straight through with all the lights off and just the itunes visualizer rolling. It speaks to me and it tells me you're a poop

But no really, I dig it oodles. And I guess from the bandcamp description, they don't use any digital instruments, which is kinda cool to think about when listening to it.

Banqin ass beats in exactly how to describe him. Ladies & Ladies is the only thing of his I've heard so far, but it's fookin great.

Yeah, I remember that. I also remember liking it a lot. Then I remember some eastern Mediterranean looking dude kidnapping me and playing tanbur for a week straight, not letting me listen to anything else. I've been hitting the Turkish stuff hard again.

I'll check it out some more soon, this first track is lovely with the dreamy sax.

Check out the last track when you get a chance. The first half is all dark and apocalyptic sounding, and it builds and builds and then it hits the second half and becomes all pretty and smooth. Just wonderfulness.

Note to self: Don't go to drum & bass parties; 1 or 2 songs are alright but after the 3rd song you begin to notice it's all the same repetitive shit all the fucking time.

Note to self: Don´t go to german pop-parties; 1 or 2 songs are alright but after the 13th liquor you beginn to hype every repetitive song like it´s the best thing of all times.

Seriously, tho, I know what you´re talking about, I went to a D´n´B concert some weeks ago. First two songs where great....The rest should have been great, because they did sound EXACTLY like the first two songs. They weren´t, tho.
User avatar #114536 to #114534 - jari (05/25/2014) [-]
I also was extremely dissapointed, they promised me live drums. D 'n B concerts with live drums are pretty cool.

hey german pop is pretty cool

at least 80s german pop Grauzone - Eisbär
User avatar #114537 to #114535 - ljxjlos (05/25/2014) [-]
German pop =/= german pop. German pop is pretty much german Schlager. Google up "Helene Fischer" for example. We had some good stuff in the 80s, but the Schlagerstuff that´s playing lately is pure and utter scum. I honestly doubt that I´d been able to listen to it without the alcoholic influence.

@ jari : yeah, the principle is neat. But it has to be very, very good to be enjoyable. Everything that isn´t clearly above average proofs to be hella boring life...at least in my experience.
User avatar #114538 to #114537 - shibe (05/25/2014) [-]
so german pop isn't german pop

nice

but i get what you mean

User avatar #114539 to #114538 - ljxjlos (05/25/2014) [-]
I´m kiiiiinda not able to use the full capability of my brain right now, so excuse me.

Well, if you get me, it´s okay. It´s just that in germany there´s two kinds of pop. The genre that every other country defines as pop...and popular german music, which is, as I said, basically schlager...the shittiest genre ever...
User avatar #114541 to #114539 - shibe (05/25/2014) [-]
I was sending you music popular in germany. At least in the 80s....

But that was in the 80s with the new wave explosion, germany had it's own really cool new wave scene that I hear was really popular in Germany.

I guess the popular scene has changed and it's just... uhh what is it?
User avatar #114542 to #114541 - ljxjlos (05/25/2014) [-]
Yah, sadly it changes. German electonic music is pretty much in-existant right now...if you ignore utter shit like Scooter, that is.

Right now, the popular german music is either a) german rap, which can be either completely rubbish or pretty good. Sadly, there´s more rubbish, tho - or "Schlager", as I said. Schlager is pretty much popmusic as we now it mixed with well...german folk music or "volksmusik"....try this: www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ZkejDqTuSM

that song keeps being played at every party, every club, every night. And that´s exactly why partying to popular german music is so frigging hard...
User avatar #114544 to #114542 - shibe (05/25/2014) [-]
It's sounds like shitty trance with vocals. Wasn't this popular everywhere else around europe in the late 90s/early 2000s ??? I hear no folk influence.

It honestly sounds like what we have going on here in the states. Just maybe a bit more electronic.
User avatar #114545 to #114544 - ljxjlos (05/25/2014) [-]
It´s hard to explain, man - Folk =/= Volksmusik, too. Many german genres kinda share the name of other genres - but sound completely different. Volksmusik for example is the exact german word for Volk - but it´s stuff like this: www.youtube.com/watch?v=0MX0kaCbMpI ...complete shit, while folk actually produced quite some awesome artists.
That´s why talking about germanies modern musical scene is so hard. Same terms, different things. Take this music, mix it with some electonic beats and you have the hitsongs that are played in clubs, directly next to the normal chartmusic that you can hear in the states, too...
User avatar #114546 to #114545 - shibe (05/25/2014) [-]
Weird, the whole german language is too confusing. I tried learning it but got lazy and gave up.
User avatar #114547 to #114546 - ljxjlos (05/25/2014) [-]
Meh, don´t do it, it´s just lost time. I mean, we´re kinda important, what politics is considered, but the important matters are all handled in english.

German does nothing but sounding weird, nowadays, it really isn´t worth the effort.
User avatar #114543 to #114542 - ljxjlos (05/25/2014) [-]
*if electronic music had kept evolving from what it was in the 80s, in germany, I have no doubt, that we´d be the leading country what this kind of music is concerned, right now, tho...sadly it didn´t.

Yay depression!
Made some music that invokes it as well. Come be sad with me.
It's still a WiP, but so far I have 3 minutes that I made today.
soundcloud.com/buriedstpatrick/states-and-lifecycles-wip

I feel like it needs lyrics and stuff, but I'm too shy to actually add any, and I'm a terrible lyricist - I mostly stick to the music part of music if that makes any sense.
User avatar #114636 to #114520 - herblegerble (05/25/2014) [-]
This is fucking fantastic. I feel it's a little lacking in bass, but whatever.
Did you play the drums or do you have a VST of some kind?
User avatar #114639 to #114636 - buriedstpatrick ONLINE (05/25/2014) [-]
Wow really? Thanks a lot.
Yeah, the reason there's no bass is... I have no bass guitar. I'm using my Gibson SG, pitch bending it through a filter, applying a virtual Bass amp to it and messing a little with the EQ. It's not nearly as good as an actual bass guitar and if anyone wants to chime in I'm all for it.

The drums I have MIDI-programmed using Addictive Drums with the Metal music pack. Addictive drums is probably my favourite drumming VST, because it plays so varied because of how they've sampled the sounds. Every velocity value has 2 or 3 different hits associated with it, so it feels like a human is playing.
But I still fiddled a lot with the velocities, added ghost notes and subtle touches.
User avatar #114641 to #114639 - herblegerble (05/25/2014) [-]
Yeh. It's great.
Well for what you're working with it definitely sounds good.

I've got to look that up. Those drums sound excellent.
#114648 to #114641 - buriedstpatrick ONLINE (05/25/2014) [-]
Specifically I'm using the Metal Pack -> Morten -> Crispy Clean.

It's not on the cheap end, and you'll have to get both Addictive Drums base + the metal pack.
Though the standard pack has a decent selection as well, I suggest trying that out first. And of course there are ways around the paywall.
Another alternative is EZ Drummer, though I haven't tried that in a long time, and I Addictive Drums gives you more control over things like room reverb and indepth control over each individual drum piece.
User avatar #114683 to #114648 - thebestpieever (05/25/2014) [-]
Still working on the lyrics. Would you recommend addictive drums over EZ Drummer?
User avatar #114684 to #114683 - buriedstpatrick ONLINE (05/25/2014) [-]
From what experience I have about 2-3 years ago Addictive Drums was VASTLY superior to EZ Drummer. I have no idea if EZ has gotten better. It was still GOOD, don't get me wrong, but Addictive Drums had a tremendously deeper layer of controlability and sound quality. Add in the excellent expansion sets (of which I have electronica and metal) and that's a really nice package.

Well that's the thing with depression. You think you can stop being sad, but something deep inside is hauling you back - logical choices don't really apply, as much as I would like them to.
For instance, I'm a 5/10 on a happiness scale right now because I just woke up, but I know at some point later today it'll just drop randomly to a 1 or 2, and there is nothing I can do about it. Believe me, I am trying as hard as I can.

User avatar #114591 to #114526 - buriedstpatrick ONLINE (05/25/2014) [-]
That'd be really awesome. You'd of course be credited on my SoundCloud page.

The essential themes I want it to cover are life choices, consequence and regret, as I'm currently battling this myself. If you can capture this, I'd be forever in your debt. figuratively speaking

01:23 to 02:04 is what I'm thinking is the chorus (though here it's only played as an intro)

02:23 and onwards is what I plan to be the verse. I'll probably have 2 of them at that length.

As the song develops I may choose to add in a bridge, but that could be strictly instrumental.

I have written songs previously when I played in a band, but I was so self concious when writing them that I never wanted to listen to them myself. English is not my primary language, and even though I'm fluent, a lot of the nuances are lost to me - though I try to learn as much as I can.
User avatar #114674 to #114591 - thebestpieever (05/25/2014) [-]

Heartbreak probably.
I want it to be about more than relationships, to catch the bigger picture. Of course you should also write something you can stand behind and draw from. The idea behind the title is (other than being a programming reference (yes I am a nerd)) to emphasise how we as people change position, make decisions that add and remove links to other lives. It can be friendships as well as deep relationships.
But again, I'm not a very skilled lyricist, so if you find something that makes more sense with the title, be my guest
User avatar #114818 to #114675 - thebestpieever (05/27/2014) [-]
Here you go, mate. It's a first try, but I've gotta say it's not my best work. Feel completely free to say it's shit and not using it.
User avatar #114817 to #114675 - thebestpieever (05/27/2014) [-]
Beginning of chorus: Why we must drag the past with us?
1:29 Why let the voices make for us our choices?
1:33 Now I walk alone, in memory of those gone
1:38 love, regret and strife; cycle of my life
[Repeat the chorus once the chord progression repeats itself]

Verse:
(2:13) On that day I thought I'd found way
I thought I could fix life's twistings and tricks
(2:24) And so I bestowed upon myself the road
But no one followed; lonely path of sorrow
(2:34) I've got to keep walking, I can't look behind
The light at the end, oh, it makes me go blind
(2:44)There lays our trust, beneath dirt and dust
And so it began, renew the cycle again. -I was thinking you could put an echo on the words "began" and "again" as an extra verse line when you record the vocals and do something similar at the beginning.

Hypothetical second verse:
I remember when I pushed you away
Both of us I betrayed
It was a lie what I said
I wanted, I needed your stay
I can't bear to remember; weight of the past
My mistakes they weren't the firsts, won't be last
After all these days, I can still see your face
And so it began, renew the cycle again.

They could easily have avoided a shitload of interferences by simply letting the concerts continue for 2 more hours. Is there any explanation for this shit?

Also, has anybody been there yet and knows how far the stages are away from each other?

Stages aren't too far away, like a 2-3 minute walk. But far enough away that you can't hear one at the other kinda thing.

You're going to love every moment of it, even if it rains.

I don´t doubt it - I´ve been to a shitload of festivals and the weather rarely manages to spoil my mood (at least not too much)

I need something lyricless to listen to at the office, something along the lines of Tycho or Aphex twin. My shift's at night.
Any recommendations?

Give me some funny/weird songs, remixes, beats, whatever ridiculous music. Not ridiculous to the point where it gets annoying or just complete shit. I'll contribute:

Despite that, I did go and deliberately listen to the song a second time
Wasn't as good the second time
