Now, I'm the last person you wanna listen to when it comes to color and such, but I think your palette is a bit muddy and the values are too even. Like, the highlights don't pop up at all and the darkest darks seem very light. but that's just an observation and I can't really help you to fix that because I'm shit with color and suffer from the same problem often times.

I think the colors make the drawing give more of a realistic look (as opposed to the very bright/saturated coloring), but the real judge of color values is the grayscale. I think the only major issue I see is with the floor, it blends a bit with the table so it kind of makes the table appear as well, mud on the ground. An easy way to prevent that is to make the table overlap the objects behind.

I've always been kind of confused on tracing and where it's appropriate.

The only thing you can get away with tracing is your own body, and pictures you yourself have taken.

Though you cheat yourself and will struggle when it comes to positions/perspective you don't have homemade pictures of.

So at most I trace my hands and feet, and then try to understand why it looks like that, then I redraw it in my own style so it doesn't look out of place.

trace as practice and don't claim you came up with it.

if you try to post it as your own and earn money from it, then it's real bad.

Traceboy is the best example of this.

Usually the rule of thumb is...it's frowned upon since it takes no effort to trace, but it's also true that comic book artist may trace from time to time if they're behind schedule

You should make your canvas bigger and not worry about trying to make your figure fit into the size you chose.
It makes everything all scrunched up if you're trying to fit it into a small space.

Speedpaints can take upwards of 5 hours. Full paintings get in the 10 to 20 range depending on what all needs rendering. But you know... semantics. xD
