So, is this board mainly for drawing art...

Or can I ask writing based questions?

Writing is an art form. It's drawing *and* art so writing questions should be fine.
#73444 - scrumdiddlyumpshus (06/17/2015) [-]
I remember posting my "art" here like last year and I would like to formally apologize to anyone I may have rendered blind. I got a drawing tablet. I researched anatomy. Now I draw things that at least resemble humans.

This is a thing I kinda quickly digitally painted for a French class movie poster. I don't entirely mind how it came out so yeah I guess I'll just uh post it riiiight here real quick just without the words because my French is absolutely horrible. It's supposed to be like a giant angler fish under the ice, you can see it's eye and it's prey-luring lamp thingy that I now realize looks like some sort of mushroom.

Any criticism would be welcome, be it constructive or meant to make me cry.
User avatar #73449 to #73444 - defectivedetective (06/17/2015) [-]
-The eyes look very scrunched up and tight, as well as being very square ish.
-The jacket looks like it's wrapped around extremely tight around their chest yet fairly loose around the hips/breast
-The pose is stiff, one example being the lamp and gun looking as if they're weigh nothing to the person
-It looks like their face, torso, and legs are facing in different directions
-It looks like they're standing on the actual fish instead of ice
-The random lines on the ice doesn't look natural.

Overall there's a lot of things you can fix but hell you're still doing much better than me in a ton of areas. Keep at it!

is there a place where I can ask art? I mean there is a part on the movie jurassic park (the new one) that the girl and the cowboy looks so much like bioshock infinite! (When her clothes were cut up a lot and dirty, but she was still using her blouse).

And I mean...

would be an awesome reference (I probably didn't told exactly how she was because I used google translator).

I posted this on ask a mod but I was a bit lazy...

Also I was planning on creating youtube poops (on my language). Does someone know if I can use windows movie maker or should I use vegas doing the thing... tc tc ???? Ya know what I mean?

any artists that inspired you when you were first getting into art? do they still?
I loved Bryan lee o'malley's work when I was in middle school (still do)

also, favorite medium to work in? (ie: digital(which program), canvas, clay, animation(digital, cel, flipbook))

Lots of manga when I was growing up.
Now I do my own thing, and I rarely look at anyone else's art, but when I do, I think 'damn, that's good.'
User avatar #73400 to #73387 - defectivedetective (06/13/2015) [-]
I didn't have any that inspired me when I was first starting, I just kinda did it.

And I normally just prefer traditional(pencil) or digital(photoshop/illustrator)
User avatar #73397 to #73387 - pickaxe (06/13/2015) [-]
webcomics actually.
the first draft of ashwara's para-ten especially.Dude changed his style significantly, but he's still pretty much my favorite artist out there.Got me to start drawin'.

Favorite medium is definitely digital:
I mostly use Manga Studio 5 and inkscape, but photoshop and illustrator are actually quite nice after I customized their settings a little bit. Also dabbled a bit in krita, but from my experience,it doesn't fill any nichés I haven't filled yet though it's great for symmetrical sketching
currently learning some after effects and premiere, while looking into blender.
tinker with copper wire every now and then

Dunno', I like to branch out.I get more inspired by new processes rather than new impressions,if that makes sense.
User avatar #73391 to #73387 - citruslord (06/13/2015) [-]
Like alot of people I started with Manga. Ken Akamatsu and to a slightly lesser extent, Nobuhiro Watsuki are big influences. I still keep up with Akamatsu's work.
And mostly Photoshop.

User avatar #73390 to #73389 - alleksi ONLINE (06/13/2015) [-]
also I work digitally most of the time. I use Mischief for sketching (infinite canvas), which has a feature that allows you to save the canvas directly as a photoshop file which is really cool, it even remembers all your layers and shit. I use photoshop if I ever feel like doing clean-up which is never. TVpaint for animation. That said I'm very disappointed in myself as I haven't been forcing myself to draw after I got myself a summer job.
User avatar #73392 to #73390 - crimsonuruzuki (06/13/2015) [-]
any reason you prefer tvpaint of others like flash or toonboom, I want to try some animation down the line.
User avatar #73395 to #73392 - alleksi ONLINE (06/13/2015) [-]
It has the best drawing engine ( I guess that's what it's called).

It is also becoming a standard in most animation schools.

Animation - TVPaint Animation, a quick start guide It is simply the best software in my opinion. It's French so the UI and default hotkeys are really weird at the beginning, at least I personally had to do a lot of tinkering before I got the hotkeys to work the way I wanted them to.

For example, as far as I know, it doesn't have an eraser tool, but you gotta switch your brush into "erase mode" and then back to "color mode" which was a pain. so I got a hot key for the brush tool, then I have a hot key for "color mode" and then I have a hotkey for "erase mode". So instead of just having two hotkeys, one for eraser and one for brush, I have three. So for example if I want to switch from free transform tool to eraser, I gotta first press my brush hotkey, and then my eraser hotkey, because I can't just press "eraser" hotkey straight away, if that makes sense, it's weird.
User avatar #73396 to #73395 - crimsonuruzuki (06/13/2015) [-]
oh, the drawing engine is rad! I'll check out some more videos on it, thanks!
