im as opposed to animal pain/injury as the next guy. but when they do it to themselves its hard not to. such as cats jumping into walls, or that famous gif of a cat trying to jump out the window and failing badly

Actually, here's a fun fact:   
A cat can survive terminal velocity (its maximum falling speed, which is after about 10m/33ft) due to its ability to right itself and spread its body... and naturally, it just falls really slow.   
My cat once fell from the top of my roof, which is just below 10 meters. Although the event nearly gave me a heart attack, it was just fine afterwards, and I spent the rest of the day hugging it.
