not really
remember, in the Old Testament God was more... connected, I guess, with the believers. After Christ came and died, it was either journals or vision-dreams.

However, man didn't change what they heard God tell them to write: the writers were simply mediums for writing.
The only time God actually wrote something was the 10 Commandments.
No, I don't think you understand the culture back then.
Now we have mass print and the internet and such, but back then writing was known only to the highly educated, so their only way to share stories was verbally.
The spent large amounts of time memorizing everything, and since they believed that it was God's word, they tried even harder, obviously.
Also, if one of them ever mixed up a detail or whatever, the rest of their community was there to correct them.

right and we still started having wars and killing people because it says, "They commit this sin, stone em." one thing i dont like about the bible. Its got morals and immorals jumbled up together and apperantly people cant tell them apart. talk about a dictatorship.

Well we didn't start our wars because of punishment and such, and we don't need to stone anyone anymore since Jesus died on the cross....
Also, a major point of that is that God has the right to decide whether someone should die and whatnot (at least, that's what Christians believe), not people

It's things like this that make me wish religion didn't exist. Sure, once upon a time religion was needed, but not anymore. If we'd stop this ridiculous argument over parts of the bible that was written in a time where sexism, racism and homophobia was the norm, and realize that it doesn't apply to today's society, the world would be a better place to live in. And if you have to believe in the bible and god because you need some purpose to your life, then only follow the basic morals and virtues. It shouldn't be taken so seriously.

I agree but religion is also partially needed now because people need something to believe in a lot of people aren't going to do things just 'cause its the right thing. and besides if people have hope then they have a reason to stay alive and do good things in their lives.

The people who can't maintain their moral when it is needed, are those we send to jail anyway. IT would not affect the society at all if we removed religion. But if we look into history, it would have changed such things as:
the black enslavement, the purge of native armericans, 9/11(9/11 was a product of the so called "religious moral"), Westbro Baptist Church, the murder of Abraham Lincoln, the war in the middle east, thousands and thousands of years of dictatorship in egypt, thousands of years of war in europe.
THE single AWESOME things that has EVER been related to religion, was the VIKINGS!(norse mythology)

I guess I overlooked that. I was brought up with no religious influences whatsoever, I've never felt that I should be a good person because god wants me to, it's more of a "Oh, since I'm alive I should be kind and generous, so that people will like me as a person and I won't spend the time I do have hated and alone". It's a shame that there aren't more people with a similar outlook on life.

Actually, the state of being homosexual itself is not a sin, because it is stated that only homosexual intercourse is. However, the Bible is a book to be interpreted. Many of the laws of Leviticus became morally obsolete with the coming of Jesus. Seriously, thought, Im not preaching, Im teaching, so please do not start an argument.

I know that every single word in the book of Mormon, pearl of great price, doctrine&covenants, and the holy bible is true, and I know the prophet Joseph Smith was true. I know this because I have felt the hand of god lift upon my soul when I read these words. I know because I have faith in the words and faith in gods only begotten. I understand, and accept your opinions and I am hoping you will understand and accept mine. I love my lord and all my brothers and sisters, yes even you. I say these things in the name of the son Jesus Christ, amen.

just because one person eloquently opinionated about a certain theory or concept, doesn't mean it's a fact and you base your own point of view on his point of view. so you have no original opinion about this. a religion is formed of a group of moral values values that are absolutes that cannot change and you are supposed to follow regardless of whether you think they are write or wrong (otherways it would defy the whole point of the idea of religion). atheism is the complete opposite of that. you don't have to blindly follow anyone's moral code just because "they are better than yours", and you decide what's right or wrong according to your own moral fiber that you developed according to your own experiences. atheism doesn't follow any doctrine, any kind of dogma, doesn't have a rule book (bible), and you won't go to special places for not following it. no one is gonna kill you over it (except christians and muslims) and you don't have to rely on outside magical influences for you to get rich or pass an exam. now stop being retarded and use your IQ for once

religious arguments are great... me and a friend in school used to have a few (me religious, him not) and it was a great way for both of us to learn basically. Intelligent conversation never hurts, no matter what the situation. The sad part really is, that most atheists know the bible better than those who actually believe it. A blind faith is a pointless and stupid faith. it's just ironic how those who know it don't believe it, and those who believe it don't know it.

People will stop using the old testament to denounce christianity when christian stop picking and choosing verses from it to support their arguments. It's that simple,if you (general term) condemn gays and quote leviticus, you should expect to have other old testament quotes hurled back at you.

The woman was using the old testament to defend the bible, as such like thousands of people do. Leviticus is known for is contradictory nature in comparison with modern views. It gets most of its popularity for being a center of the LGBT debates. Though I can tell you this, Leviticus is one of many book in the bible that are very contradictory and just down right stupid.

Case and point for why I choose not to follow any religion. Sure, religion can be fantastic for a lot of people, but unfortunately it is so easily and frequently manipulated and horribly misinterpreted by people who use it as a medium to do terrible things, and justify it by citing a terribly misconstrued quote from the bible or by saying 'the lord told me to do it' or something similar.
I think people need to take a step back, realize that religion is not intended as a tool to manipulate and control people, but rather something to give meaning, hope, or guideline for how to live a rewarding and prosperous life. Not EVERY word in the bible has to be taken literally, and such considerations must be made to realize that this was written for a different culture, at a different time, when there were different laws and rules and the people did things a lot differently. As a result, we have to view the bible and the messages and meanings it's try to convey carefully, and realize that it's not too unlikely that some points must be considered void and outdated. Sure, there is a lot of things that are still applicable, such as a majority of the ten commandments, however not all of them are.
Oh and if you're going to take the bible COMPLETELY literally, take heed of the book of Deutronomy, and let anyone you know whose taken a good hit to the nuts that they are not welcome in the house of the lord.
Deutronomy 23:1 - "No one whose testicles are crushed or whose male organ is cut off shall enter the assembly of the lord."
Oh and while you're at it, let all your girlfriends know that if they are prone to getting involved in fights and playing dirty, to be cautious take heed of this warning;
Deutronomy 25: 11-12 - "If two men are fighting and the wife of one of them comes to rescue her husband from his assailant, and she reaches out and seizes him by his private parts, you shall cut off her hand. Show her no pity"
I could go on for years but there is a character limit.
