I think what he means is that the sumo variations of the deadlift, squat and bench press are far more efficient and allow you to lift more weight and have been used to accomplish all the current world records

The current world record for deadlift, raw and equipped, is held by Benedickt Magnuson who uses the conventional style of the deadlift. Andy Bolton was the record holder before him who used the sumo deadlift. I don't think there is a sumo style of squat and bench press.
Also, the 'Sumo' deadlift doesn't actually have anything to do with sumo wrestling other than the stance looks kind of like the way sumo wrestlers stand while wrestling.
What pwnagraphy said was that the only reason sumo wrestlers dont hold the pwerlifting world records is because they can't be bothered, which is a bold claim to make without a source.

There was a documentary a few nights ago on Discovery on Sumo Wrestling. They showed the diets, exercise routines, and lifestyles. At one point during the exercises they showed one of the guys throwing on like 6 or 7 plates and pumping out 5 reps pretty quick on the bench. Then one of the guys there was talking about how because of their size, they are extremely strong and with their training they get even stronger each day, then a passing comment on how Rikshis in the past have indeed broken world record lifts, but since they were not a member of the federation it didn't count in the books. Wish I could help you more, but that's all I got :/

Well to be fair, it's easy for sumo wrestlers to squat ATG since their ass is already on the ground.

But traditional sumo training does not involve weight training.

well to be fair its one of newton's laws of motion if you get a large mass moving it picks up greater momentum faster than a lesser mass and thus is harder to stop moving again because of its mass. so the real impressive part is when the fat man stops so quickly after moving although since he displaces the momentum by turning/spinning it makes stopping easier.

Sumo Wrestlers actually are extremely well muscled under their thick fat. It's strange, but if you punch a sumo, they wont feel it because of the buffer as well as training and muscle. If you punch a regular ******* they will usually belch their mcdonalds menu on you

Some wrestlers are actually muscular as **** . They just put on all the weight, so they have higher inertia, so they're harder to push back.
