Anubis is technically a stand though. Also he inhabits a katana and I'm pretty sure Jesus was around before katanas were. Maybe he inhabited a khopesh before he possessed the katana, but regardless he's still a stand. A very malevolent and unique stand who works for a gay vampire that wears green lipstick.

Well then whoever used him would be the first stand user to date.

Although it's sort of weird about that because it says in the trivia that Dio got his sword from a museum 500 years after Anubis's creator/user died but then it also says he's the oldest stand since he's been around since Ancient Egypt which either means his wielder was a vampire, or someone on the wikia made a mistake.

All of this is highly personal experiences with it. It probably does not hold true for ~90% of other people.
Part 1 is lampooning and mocking shounen action series. So much non-sequiteur and drawing attention to it's own ridiculusness that it becomes satire. Easily my favorite by a long shot 8/10.
The plot is about an adopted boy who is an ass, and then JoJo and friends have to kill him to stop him from being MEGADOUCHE.

Part 2 is silly poses, and "I knew that you knew, and i knew that you knew that i knew that you knew, so therefore, i win" It's silly all the way through, untill it hits you like a rock that it isn't silly, and it expects you to take it seriously.
For me, it never feels like a selfaware and ironic thing, and thus i don't like it as much.
The plot is that 3 super-übermensch are trying to get the McGuffin, and JoJo 2 and friend has to become strong enough to beat them within the time-limit, or JoJo dies, and the übermensch will exterminate humans.
Personally i find it MEH, and i consider it a 5/10

The plot of part 3 is that JoJo 2 finds out adoptive kid from JoJo1 is gonna go be a megadouche again, and it is Adoptive Kid's fault his daughter is dying, so he grabs a friend, JoJo3 (who never actually says anything, yet he is aparently the MC(?)), and two randoms they pick up on the street, and travel towards Kairo from Japan, each episode stoping along lots of places so they can fight the local hired gun in a "villain-of-the-week" Saturday morning cartoon style.
It's so bad, it even constantly relies on the "we are bumbling bafoons who can't actually communicate, and will never figure out that the weird **** happening is happening, before we are in deep ****"
I find it really boring, and the plot never moves forward. dropped hard, 3.5/10
Also, now there are poop jokes everywhere.

Shonen was honestly just that ridiculous around that point in time, Jojo wasn't all that different in part one from the rest. The stands were what really made it break out into pop culture. A dude in Sakigake!! Otokojuku defends against a unicycle attack with spinning tops.

The show is fun. It's VERY over the top. Fights can be quite unconventional, and it's all quite unique. Watch a bit.

I've watched almost 50 episodes of it, and consider part 1 to be "great". explain how i have negative bias. If i had a negative bias, i would have dropped it before watching a lot of it.
To clarify, i ONLY rate shows on how much i enjoy them on a subjective level. a show with excellent visuals, writing, sound and directing, like K-on, can still be a 2 in my book, if it isn't my cup of tea.
The things i don't like about stardust crusaders, is that while there is a central narative, i don't feel excitement about what's going to happen in the next episode. I know it's going to be a new location and travel destination that gets a little bit of exposition, then another hired gun is there and is going to do sneaky stuff, then he engages in banter, then magic battle happens, and then there will be crusader victory. Mix in a few gags around the episode and that's a wratp, tune in next week for more of the same.
That repetition isn't fun. While the enemies are actually quite imaginitive, they are never able to actually seem like a threat, because every other enemy has been defeated before them.
While the battles themselves are the best thus far in the series, the suporting structure for them is just so annoyingly unengaging. and with that, the weaker battles, such as Justiceor at least, the resolution, with star platinum's asspull soulution, the orangutang, and the swimm-y dude become unbearable.

Also, what happened to Joseph's character? he goes from being portrayed as blisteringly intelligent with lots of street-smart, to becoming too dense to notice that there is actually something afoot. Sure, every character is like thatand that's not fun to watch, but joseph is an established character.
Speaking of character, are any of the main characters likable? Both abdul and and Jotaro are stoic. It might work with live action, where a really good actor could portray a bit of subtle neuance, but for animation where every time we see their face, it's the same, not so much. Neither are fun characters to watch. Polnareff is an idiot, and a comic relief character. In my endless arrogance, i've never actually felt like an idiot, so i don't find it relatable, and when the gags mostly just rely on the shock of toilet humor, he comes off as more annoying than anything. Kakyoin doesn't get all that many lines, and he could use a little more definition, but he was very likable in the "Death 13" episodes. Still, since he isn't an exposition machine like abdul or comic relief character, he probably gets the least screentime. Sad!

As for villainy, the ressurected Dio has a ton of characters speak of how charismatic and scary he is. It's a shame it's not actually established in the early glimpses of him how charismatic and scary he is. Sure phantom blood sets him up pretty well, but in how disconnected the parts can feel, that doesn't cut it IMO. Spending an episode establishing him sometime in season 1 would have done wonders for the forwards momentum of the main narrative, given us a little bit more personal stake in defeating him (Holly almost geting fridged is a little on the thin end of it IMO) and could have spared us one of the worse battles. Sure the hired guns could kinda work to indicate how easily he gets people to do his bidding, but the emotional investment in that explanation is lacking.

Finally, and perhaps most importantly: the over-the-top-ness of it is way lower than either previous part. The stand battles are mostly played straight. you aren't laughing at how absurd the battles are anymore. Where Phantom blood's "Zoom Punch" and similar is a brilliant mockery of manga art, and battle tendency's "i anticipated your moves 5 steps ahead" gets into the absurd in a funny way. There are very few funny stands. The battles are played straight, and while they are some of the best straight battles i've seen, i don't find it very interesting.

And there is the post character limit.

Part 1, Phantom Blood, is the backstory of Dio Brando and the explanation of why the Speedwagon Foundation supports the JoJos of Parts 2-6.
Basic summary: Dario Brando is a scumbag, so he tries to rob a carriage that went off the side of a cliff. Both fortunately and unfortunately for Dario, one of the carriage's passengers, a wealthy man by the name of George Joestar, survived the accident. Dario wasn't able to pocket much of value, but George, confused from the crash, thought Dario had saved his life, and swore that he would repay that kindness in any way possible.
Dario has a son, named Dio, who, due to Dario being an absolute scumbag, turns into an ambitious dick. Dio kills Dario because he got tired of putting up with Dario drinking all the money he won by beating rich people at chess, and George adopts Dio as a final act to repay Dario, who he had long since figured out didn't actually help him.
Dio immediately comes into conflict with George's biological son Johnathan, who, despite his noble upbringing, is immature and reckless. Dio starts being a dick to everyone, until Johnathan gets tired of Dio's **** and beats the piss out of him. Dio swears revenge for the ass-kicking he endured.
Flash forward a few years, and Dio and Johnathan are acting like friends, despite their rather intense dislike of each other. George has come down with a mysterious illness. Johnathan, finding this suspicious, looks into Dio's past, and finds that Dario Brando suffered from similar symptoms prior to his passing. Johnathan heads to London, tracks down the name of the shop, beats up a bunch of hooligans, and meets Speedwagon, who provides more information than anyone would ever think possible.
Dio, meanwhile, is experimenting with a stone mask that springs out a bunch of spikes when it gets blood on it. He tests it out on some drunk asshole outside of the bar he was at, and the dude turns into a ******* vampire. This is where the series takes a hard turn into crazy **** happening, so brace yourself.
Johnathan shows up and presents the police with the evidence of Dio working to poison George. Dio, pissed off by the fact he was caught, tries to stab Johnathan to activate the mask, but George catches the knife with his chest, causing George to die and Dio to become a ******* vampire, which scares everyone, even Speedwagon.
Dio showboats a *******, the Joestar manor burns to the ground, and both Dio and Johnathan survive this, because the story would be really ******* short if they didn't.
That's just the first couple chapters/episodes summed up. I'd keep going, but you really should just either read the manga or watch the anime. Both are good options.

The show starts out normal enough. Two kids vie for their fathers attention, one is the son and one is the adopted child that the father said he would adopt if his father ever died spoiler alert the adopted child's father died wooooaah plot twist . They grow up and the adopted son, Dio, tries to poison the father in order to gain the inheritance to his fortune and his manor. It starts out with pretty simple and straightforward forward stuff like this that make it completely believable, but then there's a constant trickle of weird things that you don't even notice at first because they make perfect sense in the context. For instance, Dio becomes a vampire. I mean it's the late 1800's vampires were a prominent mythological figure back then, it makes sense. Then in part 3 Dio is now a flaming gay vampire with a ghost buddy that punches things for him, then in part 4 they kinkshame a serial killer to death after he goes around murdering the occasional loli, then in part 5 it takes place in--so his spirit fused with a turtle--then in part 8 you have a sailor with no memory with 4 testicles who is actually the Jojo from part 4 but not really because somewhere along the way he got fused with the villain from part 4 except the villain from part 4 still exists in that universe except he's not exactly the same so he's the same but different, y'see? It's the sheer madness of the series that I really enjoy, and it just subtly adds on more and more bizarre **** until you're reading everything I just typed and you're taking it completely seriously because it gets added in bit by bit and you just accept it. Also the fight scenes are pretty good.
